Low-temperature magnetism of KAgF3
KAgF3 is a quasi-one-dimensional quantum antiferromagnet hosting a series of intriguing structural and magnetic transitions. Here we use powder neutron diffraction, ΞΌSR spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations to elucidate the low-temperature magnetic phases. Below TN1 = 29 K we find that the material orders as an A-type antiferromagnet with an ordered moment of 0.52 ΞΌ B . Both neutrons and muons provide evidence for an intermediate phase at temperatures TN1 < T < TN2 with TN2 β 66 K from a previous magnetometry study. However, the evidence is at the limit of detection and its nature remains an open problem
Phase transitions and critical behavior of black branes in canonical ensemble
We study the thermodynamics and phase structure of asymptotically flat
non-dilatonic as well as dilatonic black branes in a cavity in arbitrary
dimensions (). We consider the canonical ensemble and so the charge inside
the cavity and the temperature at the wall are fixed. We analyze the stability
of the black brane equilibrium states and derive the phase structures. For the
zero charge case we find an analog of Hawking-Page phase transition for these
black branes in arbitrary dimensions. When the charge is non-zero, we find that
below a critical value of the charge, the phase diagram has a line of
first-order phase transition in a certain range of temperatures which ends up
at a second order phase transition point (critical point) as the charge attains
the critical value. We calculate the critical exponents at that critical point.
Although our discussion is mainly concerned with the non-dilatonic branes, we

Quark-antiquark potential in AdS at one loop
We derive an exact analytical expression for the one-loop partition function
of a string in AdS_5xS^5 background with world-surface ending on two
anti-parallel lines. All quantum fluctuations are shown to be governed by
integrable, single-gap Lame' operators. The first strong coupling correction to
the quark-antiquark potential, as defined in N=4 SYM, is derived as the sum of
known mathematical constants and a one-dimensional integral representation. Its
full numerical value can be given with arbitrary precision and confirms a

Phase structure of black branes in grand canonical ensemble
This is a companion paper of our previous work [1] where we studied the
thermodynamics and phase structure of asymptotically flat black -branes in a
cavity in arbitrary dimensions in a canonical ensemble. In this work we
study the thermodynamics and phase structure of the same in a grand canonical
ensemble. Since the boundary data in two cases are different (for the grand
canonical ensemble boundary potential is fixed instead of the charge as in
canonical ensemble) the stability analysis and the phase structure in the two
cases are quite different. In particular, we find that there exists an analog
of one-variable analysis as in canonical ensemble, which gives the same
stability condition as the rather complicated known (but generalized from black
holes to the present case) two-variable analysis. When certain condition for
the fixed potential is satisfied, the phase structure of charged black
-branes is in some sense similar to that of the zero charge black -branes
in canonical ensemble up to a certain temperature. The new feature in the
present case is that above this temperature, unlike the zero-charge case, the
stable brane phase no longer exists and `hot flat space' is the stable phase
here. In the grand canonical ensemble there is an analog of Hawking-Page
transition, even for the charged black -brane, as opposed to the canonical
ensemble. Our study applies to non-dilatonic as well as dilatonic black

Generalized quark-antiquark potential at weak and strong coupling
We study a two-parameter family of Wilson loop operators in N=4
supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory which interpolates smoothly between the 1/2
BPS line or circle and a pair of antiparallel lines. These observables capture
a natural generalization of the quark-antiquark potential. We calculate these
loops on the gauge theory side to second order in perturbation theory and in a
semiclassical expansion in string theory to one-loop order. The resulting
determinants are given in integral form and can be evaluated numerically for
general values of the parameters or analytically in a systematic expansion
around the 1/2 BPS configuration. We comment about the feasibility of deriving

Profit and loss analysis for an intensive care unit (ICU) in Japan: a tool for strategic management
BACKGROUND: Accurate cost estimate and a profit and loss analysis are necessary for health care practice. We performed an actual financial analysis for an intensive care unit (ICU) of a university hospital in Japan, and tried to discuss the health care policy and resource allocation decisions that have an impact on critical intensive care. METHODS: The costs were estimated by a department level activity based costing method, and the profit and loss analysis was based on a break-even point analysis. The data used included the monthly number of patients, the revenue, and the direct and indirect costs of the ICU in 2003. RESULTS: The results of this analysis showed that the total costs of US 2,295,044. However, it was determined that the ICU required at least 1,986 patient days within one fiscal year based on a break-even point analysis. As a result, an annual deficit of US$ 383,008 has occurred in the ICU. CONCLUSION: These methods are useful for determining the profits or losses for the ICU practice, and how to evaluate and to improve it. In this study, the results indicate that most ICUs in Japanese hospitals may not be profitable at the present time. As a result, in order to increase the income to make up for this deficit, an increase of 437 patient days in the ICU in one fiscal year is needed, and the number of patients admitted to the ICU should thus be increased without increasing the number of beds or staff members. Increasing the number of patients referred from cooperating hospitals and clinics therefore appears to be the best strategy for achieving these goals
All different or all the same? Exploring the diversity of professional practices in Portuguese school psychology
"Published online: 29 March 2016"Studies have generally characterized school psychologists as a relative homogenous population. Understanding the differences in professional practices and related variables is important for the development of the profession. Using a sample of 446 Portuguese school psychologists, this study used cluster analysis to identify distinct profiles of professional activity, based on practitionersβ time distribution among different target audiences (i.e.,students, parents, teachers, school board members, school non-professional staff, and other professionals within the school community). Three distinct profiles emerged from the data: a group highly oriented to work with students, a group that distributes time almost equitably
between adults and students, and a group that concentrates attention and professional expertise on adults. Practice setting variables, such as school-psychologists-to-student ratio, schoolpsychologists-to-school ratio, number of referrals per year, and school community level of demand for different activities, were found to be significantly related to cluster membership. No personal- or professional-background-related variables differentiated the three groups. The main implications of these findings are discussed in light of recent literature regarding the models of service delivery for school psychologists
Distinguishing Type 2 Diabetes from Type 1 Diabetes in African American and Hispanic American Pediatric Patients
To test the hypothesis that clinical observations made at patient presentation can distinguish type 2 diabetes (T2D) from type 1 diabetes (T1D) in pediatric patients aged 2 to 18.Medical records of 227 African American and 112 Hispanic American pediatric patients diagnosed as T1D or T2D were examined to compare parameters in the two diseases. Age at presentation, BMI z-score, and gender were the variables used in logistic regression analysis to create models for T2D prediction.The regression-based model created from African American data had a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 89%; testing of a replication cohort showed 91% sensitivity and 93% specificity. A model based on the Hispanic American data showed 92% sensitivity and 90% specificity. Similarities between African American and Hispanic American patients include: (1) age at onset for both T1D and T2D decreased from the 1980s to the 2000s; (2) risk of T2D increased markedly with obesity. Racial/ethnic-specific observations included: (1) in African American patients, the proportion of females was significantly higher than that of males for T2D compared to T1D (p<0.0001); (2) in Hispanic Americans, the level of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was significantly higher in T1D than in T2D (p<0.002) at presentation; (3) the strongest contributor to T2D risk was female gender in African Americans, while the strongest contributor to T2D risk was BMI z-score in Hispanic Americans.Distinction of T2D from T1D at patient presentation was possible with good sensitivity and specificity using only three easily-assessed variables: age, gender, and BMI z-score. In African American pediatric diabetes patients, gender was the strongest predictor of T2D, while in Hispanic patients, BMI z-score was the strongest predictor. This suggests that race/ethnic specific models may be useful to optimize distinction of T1D from T2D at presentation
Srv Mediated Dispersal of Streptococcal Biofilms Through SpeB Is Observed in CovRS+ Strains
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) is a human specific pathogen capable of causing both mild infections and severe invasive disease. We and others have shown that GAS is able to form biofilms during infection. That is to say, they form a three-dimensional, surface attached structure consisting of bacteria and a multi-component extracellular matrix. The mechanisms involved in regulation and dispersal of these GAS structures are still unclear. Recently we have reported that in the absence of the transcriptional regulator Srv in the MGAS5005 background, the cysteine protease SpeB is constitutively produced, leading to increased tissue damage and decreased biofilm formation during a subcutaneous infection in a mouse model. This was interesting because MGAS5005 has a naturally occurring mutation that inactivates the sensor kinase domain of the two component regulatory system CovRS. Others have previously shown that strains lacking covS are associated with decreased SpeB production due to CovR repression of speB expression. Thus, our results suggest the inactivation of srv can bypass CovR repression and lead to constitutive SpeB production. We hypothesized that Srv control of SpeB production may be a mechanism to regulate biofilm dispersal and provide a mechanism by which mild infection can transition to severe disease through biofilm dispersal. The question remained however, is this mechanism conserved among GAS strains or restricted to the unique genetic makeup of MGAS5005. Here we show that Srv mediated control of SpeB and biofilm dispersal is conserved in the invasive clinical isolates RGAS053 (serotype M1) and MGAS315 (serotype M3), both of which have covS intact. This work provides additional evidence that Srv regulated control of SpeB may mediate biofilm formation and dispersal in diverse strain backgrounds
