Cross-ladder effects in Bethe-Salpeter and Light-Front equations
Bethe-Salpeter (BS) equation in Minkowski space for scalar particles is
solved for a kernel given by a sum of ladder and cross-ladder exchanges. The
solution of corresponding Light-Front (LF) equation, where we add the
time-ordered stretched boxes, is also obtained. Cross-ladder contributions are
found to be very large and attractive, whereas the influence of stretched boxes
is negligible. Both approaches -- BS and LF -- give very close results.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figure
Three-dimensional Simulations of Disk Accretion to an Inclined Dipole: I. Magnetospheric Flow at Different Theta
We present results of fully three-dimensional MHD simulations of disk
accretion to a rotating magnetized star with its dipole moment inclined at an
angle Theta to the rotation axis of the disk. We observed that matter accretes
from the disk to a star in two or several streams depending on Theta. Streams
may precess around the star at small Theta. The inner regions of the disk are
warped. The warping is due to the tendency of matter to co-rotate with inclined
magnetosphere. The accreting matter brings positive angular momentum to the
(slowly rotating) star tending to spin it up. The corresponding torque N_z
depends only weakly on Theta. The angular momentum flux to the star is
transported predominantly by the magnetic field; the matter component
contributes < 1 % of the total flux. Results of simulations are important for
understanding the nature of classical T Tauri stars, cataclysmic variables, and
X-ray pulsars.Comment: 26 pages, 22 figures, LaTeX, macros: emulapj.sty, avi simulations are

Solving Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space
We develop a new method of solving Bethe-Salpeter (BS) equation in Minkowski
space. It is based on projecting the BS equation on the light-front (LF) plane
and on the Nakanishi integral representation of the BS amplitude. This method
is valid for any kernel given by the irreducible Feynman graphs. For massless
ladder exchange, our approach reproduces analytically the Wick-Cutkosky
equation. For massive ladder exchange, the numerical results coincide with the
ones obtained by Wick rotation.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Exact spinor-scalar bound states in a QFT with scalar interactions
We study two-particle systems in a model quantum field theory, in which
scalar particles and spinor particles interact via a mediating scalar field.
The Lagrangian of the model is reformulated by using covariant Green's
functions to solve for the mediating field in terms of the particle fields.
This results in a Hamiltonian in which the mediating-field propagator appears
directly in the interaction term. It is shown that exact two-particle
eigenstates of the Hamiltonian can be determined. The resulting relativistic
fermion-boson equation is shown to have Dirac and Klein-Gordon one-particle
limits. Analytic solutions for the bound state energy spectrum are obtained for
the case of massless mediating fields.Comment: 12 pages, RevTeX, 1 figur
Restoration of rotational invariance of bound states on the light front
We study bound states in a model with scalar nucleons interacting via an
exchanged scalar meson using the Hamiltonian formalism on the light front. In
this approach manifest rotational invariance is broken when the Fock space is
truncated. By considering an effective Hamiltonian that takes into account two
meson exchanges, we find that this breaking of rotational invariance is
decreased from that which occurs when only one meson exchange is included. The
best improvement occurs when the states are weakly bound.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, uses feynMF; changed typos, clarified use of

Particle Physics Explanations for Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray Events
The origin of cosmic ray events with E \gsim 10^{11} GeV remains
mysterious. In this talk I briefly summarize several proposed particle physics
explanations: a breakdown of Lorentz invariance, the ``burst'' scenario,
new hadrons with masses of several GeV as primaries, and magnetic monopoles
with mass below GeV as primaries. I then describe in a little more
detail the idea that these events are due to the decays of very massive,
long--lived exotic particles.Comment: Invited plenary talk at PASCOS03, Mumbai, India, January 2003; 13

Study of relativistic bound states for scalar theories in Bethe-Salpeter and Dyson-Schwinger formalism
The Bethe-Salpeter equation for Wick-Cutkosky like models is solved in
dressed ladder approximation. The bare vertex truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger
equations for propagators is combined with the dressed ladder Bethe-Salpeter
equation for the scalar S-wave bound state amplitudes. With the help of
spectral representation the results are obtained directly in Minkowski space.
We give a new analytic formula for the resulting equation simplifying the
numerical treatment. The bare ladder approximation of Bethe-Salpeter equation
is compared with the one with dressed ladder. The elastic electromagnetic form
factors is calculated within the relativistic impulse approximation.Comment: 30 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
The Conformal Spin and Statistics Theorem
We prove the equality between the statistics phase and the conformal
univalence for a superselection sector with finite index in Conformal Quantum

Chiral Symmetry Breaking in Quenched Massive Strong-Coupling QED
We present results from a study of subtractive renormalization of the fermion
propagator Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) in massive strong-coupling quenched
QED. Results are compared for three different fermion-photon proper vertex
{\it Ans\"{a}tze\/}: bare , minimal Ball-Chiu, and
Curtis-Pennington. The procedure is straightforward to implement and
numerically stable. This is the first study in which this technique is used and
it should prove useful in future DSE studies, whenever renormalization is
required in numerical work.Comment: REVTEX 3.0, 15 pages plus 7 uuencoded PostScript figure
