Fractured clasts in the Mt Currie Conglomerate at Kata Tjuta (Central Australia): evidence of Early Cambrian earthquakes?

    Get PDF
Lower Cambrian Mt Currie conglomerate at Kata Tjuta bornhardts (Central Australia) bears numerous fractured clasts. Clast-cutting fractures are restricted to particular clasts, the matrix of the conglomerate is not fractured. The fractures are tectonic joints of two sets. The joints were formed due to either seismic or aseismic deformation. In the former case, the fractures may result from Early Paleozoic earthquakes

Featured Snippets Results in Google Web Search: An Exploratory Study

In this paper authors analyzed 163412 keywords and results with featured snippets collected from localized Polish Google search engine. A method-ology for retrieving data from Google search engine was proposed in terms of obtaining necessary data to study featured snippets. It was observed that almost half of featured snippets (48%) is taken from result on first ranking position. Furthermore, some correlations between prepositions and the most often appearing content words in keywords was discovered. Results show that featured snippets are often taken from trustworthy websites like e.g., Wikipedia and are mainly presented in form of a paragraph. Paragraph can be read by Google Assistant or Home Assistant with voice search. We conclude our findings with discussion and research limitations.Comment: 10 pages, 6 tables, accepted to conference ICMarktech'1

Transparent amorphous zinc oxide thin films for NLO applications

    Get PDF
This review focuses on the growth and optical properties of amorphous zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films. A high quality ZnO films fabricated by dip-coating (sol–gel) method were grown on quartz and glass substrates at temperature equal to 350 K. The amorphous nature of the films was verified by X-ray diffraction. Atomic Force Microscopy was used to evaluate the surface morphology of the films. The optical characteristics of amorphous thin films have been investigated in the spectral range 190–1100 nm. Measurement of the polarized optical properties was shows a high transmissivity (80–99%) and low absorptivity (<5%) in the visible and near infrared regions at different angles of incidence. Linear optical properties were investigated by classic and Time-Resolved Photoluminescence (TRPL) measurements. Photoluminescence spectrum exhibits a strong ultraviolet emission while the visible emission is very weak. An innovative TRPL technique has enabled the measurement of the photoluminescence decay time as a function of temperature. TRPL measurements reveal a multiexponential decay behavior typical for amorphous thin films. Second and third harmonic generation measurements were performed by means of the rotational Maker fringe technique using Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm in picosecond regime for investigations of the nonlinear optical properties. The obtained values of second and third order nonlinear susceptibilities were found to be high enough for the potential applications in the optical switching devices based on refractive index changes. Presented spectra confirm high structural and optical quality of the investigated zinc oxide thin films

Improved Unsteady RANS Models Applied to Jet Transverse to a Pipe Flow

    Get PDF
An unsteady RANS model is developed in order to simulate the complex situations involving both free and bounded flows. This model tuned to catch coherent flow structures is developed both in the k-ε and k-l approaches. The full 3D geometry of a round jet exiting from a reservoir into a pipe has been computed. Periodic conditions are applied in order to compare with an experiments consisting of eight jets exiting in a cross pipe flow. Improvement has been obtained with this URANS turbulence model compared to RANS and good agreement compared with experiments has been obtained. Unsteady phenomena are reproduced by the model and provide more insight into the physical properties of the flow and of the transport of a passive scalar

System Response Kernel Calculation for List-mode Reconstruction in Strip PET Detector

    Get PDF
Reconstruction of the image in Positron Emission Tomographs (PET) requires the knowledge of the system response kernel which describes the contribution of each pixel (voxel) to each tube of response (TOR). This is especially important in list-mode reconstruction systems, where an efficient analytical approximation of such function is required. In this contribution, we present a derivation of the system response kernel for a novel 2D strip PET.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures; Presented at Symposium on applied nuclear physics and innovative technologies, Cracow, 03-06 June 201

Photophysical properties of Alq3 thin films

    Get PDF
This work contains investigation results of the photophysical properties of aluminum (III) tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) thin films. The Alq3 thin films were successfully fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition technique. The films were grown on transparent: (quartz and glass) and semiconductor (n-type silica) substrates kept at room temperature during the deposition process. Selected films were annealed after fabrication in ambient atmosphere for 12 h at the temperature equal to 100 °C and 150 °C. Morphology of the films was investigated by AFM technique. Photophysical properties were characterized via photoluminescence, transmission, second and third harmonic generation measurements. The thin films exhibit high structural quality regardless of the annealing process, but the stability of the film can be improved by using an appropriate temperature during the annealing process. Photoluminescence of Alq3 films obtained in air were efficient and stable. The measurements of transmission, SHG and THG spectra allowed us to determine optical constant of the films. We find that the photophysical properties were strictly connected with the morphology and the annealing process significantly changes the structural properties of the films

A novel method for calibration and monitoring of time synchronization of TOF-PET scanners by means of cosmic rays

All of the present methods for calibration and monitoring of TOF-PET scanner detectors utilize radioactive isotopes such as e.g. 22^{22}Na or 68^{68}Ge, which are placed or rotate inside the scanner. In this article we describe a novel method based on the cosmic rays application to the PET calibration and monitoring methods. The concept allows to overcome many of the drawbacks of the present methods and it is well suited for newly developed TOF-PET scanners with a large longitudinal field of view. The method enables also monitoring of the quality of the scintillator materials and in general allows for the continuous quality assurance of the PET detector performance.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
