Coarse Grained Liouville Dynamics of piecewise linear discontinuous maps
We compute the spectrum of the classical and quantum mechanical
coarse-grained propagators for a piecewise linear discontinuous map. We analyze
the quantum - classical correspondence and the evolution of the spectrum with
increasing resolution. Our results are compared to the ones obtained for a
mixed system.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure

Weyl law for fat fractals
It has been conjectured that for a class of piecewise linear maps the closure
of the set of images of the discontinuity has the structure of a fat fractal,
that is, a fractal with positive measure. An example of such maps is the
sawtooth map in the elliptic regime. In this work we analyze this problem
quantum mechanically in the semiclassical regime. We find that the fraction of
states localized on the unstable set satisfies a modified fractal Weyl law,
where the exponent is given by the exterior dimension of the fat fractal.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, IOP forma
Quantum Spectra of Triangular Billiards on the Sphere
We study the quantal energy spectrum of triangular billiards on a spherical
surface. Group theory yields analytical results for tiling billiards while the
generic case is treated numerically. We find that the statistical properties of
the spectra do not follow the standard random matrix results and their peculiar
behaviour can be related to the corresponding classical phase space structure.Comment: 18 pages, 5 eps figure
The Solar Twin Planet Search II. A Jupiter twin around a solar twin
Through our HARPS radial velocity survey for planets around solar twin stars,
we have identified a promising Jupiter twin candidate around the star HIP11915.
We characterize this Keplerian signal and investigate its potential origins in
stellar activity. Our analysis indicates that HIP11915 hosts a Jupiter-mass
planet with a 3800-day orbital period and low eccentricity. Although we cannot
definitively rule out an activity cycle interpretation, we find that a planet
interpretation is more likely based on a joint analysis of RV and activity
index data. The challenges of long-period radial velocity signals addressed in
this paper are critical for the ongoing discovery of Jupiter-like exoplanets.
If planetary in nature, the signal investigated here represents a very close
analog to the solar system in terms of both Sun-like host star and Jupiter-like
planet.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures; A&A accepted; typos corrected in this versio
Clobazam Therapeutic Drug Monitoring: A Comprehensive Review of the Literature With Proposals to Improve Future Studies
Background: Clobazam was recently approved for Lennox–Gastaut syndrome in the United States. There is no published review article focused on clobazam therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in English.
Methods: More than 200 clobazam articles identified by a PubMed search were carefully reviewed for information on clobazam pharmacokinetics. Clobazam is mainly metabolized by a cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzyme, CYP3A4, to its active metabolite, N-desmethylclobazam. Then, N-desmethylclobazam is mainly metabolized by CYP2C19 unless the individual has no CYP2C19 activity [poor metabolizer (PM)].
Results: Using a mechanistic approach to reinterpret the published findings of steady-state TDM and single-dosing pharmacokinetic studies, 4 different serum clobazam concentration ratios were studied. The available limited steady-state TDM data suggest that the serum N-desmethylclobazam/clobazam ratio can be useful for clinicians, including identifying CYP2C19 PMs (ratio \u3e25 in the absence of inhibitors). There are 3 possible concentration/dose (C/D) ratios. The clobazam C/D ratio has the potential to measure the contribution of CYP3A4 activity to the clearance of clobazam from the body. The N-desmethylclobazam C/D ratio does not seem to be a good measure of clobazam clearance and should be substituted with the total (clobazam + N-desmethylclobazam) C/D ratio.
Conclusions: Future clobazam TDM studies need to use trough concentrations after steady state has been reached (\u3e3 weeks in normal individuals and several months in CYP2C19 PMs). These future studies need to explore the potential of clobazam and total C/D ratios. Better studies on the relative potency of N-desmethylclobazam compared with the parent compound are needed to provide weighted total serum concentrations that correct for the possible lower N-desmethylclobazam pharmacodynamic activity. Standardization and more studies of C/D ratios from clobazam and other drugs can be helpful to move TDM forward
The quantification of education and the reorganisation of teachers' work : an institutional ethnography
This thesis explores how significant aspects of teachers’ work are being re-organised by the rise of large scale assessment regimes. The research shows how teachers’ work is connected to chains of texts that link education data to funding and performance management. While public and institutional discourses suggest teachers make individual decisions to “teach to the test” in response to high stakes testing, this research demonstrates that significant aspects of teachers’ work both in and out of the classroom are orchestrated by series of policy texts that flow from governments to bureaucrats and ultimately into schools
