Retrofitting of 245 kV OIP bushing with longer oil-end

    Get PDF
This article focuses on an original case-history of replacement of a leaky 245 kV OIP bushing of a 220/132/33 kV, 160 MVA, transformer on site at the 220 kV Jabalpur substation, in Madhya Pradesh state in India with an available 245 kV OIP bushing having longer L-2, Fig. 1. To retrofit the same turret-adopter, an extension piece was fabricated, with an innovative idea of utilizing locally available materials and in-house resources in minimum downtime on site, without re-locating or dismantling the transformer, thus giving the transmission and the distribution utilities tangible advantages such as large savings of revenue by way of dismantling transportation of the transformer to the OEM’s works for its repairs; repair charges, post-repair transportation to the site followed by erection and commissioning of the transformer on the site etc. and also avoiding dissatisfaction amongst all categories of consumers at large

Background: Cesarean section (CS or C-section) is a surgical intervention and it is the 2nd commonest surgery performed on women in India after tubectomy operation. So, the study was conducted with objectives to assess the socio-demographic profile of recently delivered women and to assess the trend and etiological factors of cesarean delivery among women. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among recently delivered women of Ahmedabad city, Gujarat, India during April to September 2015. Pretested performa was used for study after informed consent. Total 200 women were selected for study. Results: Majority (56%) of women were belongs to 25 to 30 year. age group. Few (5%) of women were found illiterate. 31% women were delivered through cesarean section. Majority (63.5%) of women were delivered at Government hospitals. Most common reason (23%) for cesarean delivery was previous history of LSCS. Most preferred (33%) first choice of contraceptive method was barrier method. Conclusions: Commonest reasons for cesarean deliveries were previous history of LSCS, Oligohydramnios and prolonged labor. Most preferred first choice of contraceptive method was barrier method followed by Oral Contraceptive pills

Iridium complexes bearing a PNP ligand, favoring facile C(sp^3)–H bond cleavage

    Get PDF
Hydrogen iodide is lost upon reaction of PNP with IrI_3, where PNP = 2,6-bis-(di-t-butylphosphinomethyl)pyridine to give crystallographically characterized Ir(PNP)*(I)_2, which reacts with H_2 to give Ir(PNP)(H)(I)_2. Ir(PNP)(Cl)_3 is relatively inert towards the intramolecular C–H activation of the tert-butyl's of the PNP ligand

Iterative approach to model identification of biological networks

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Recent advances in molecular biology techniques provide an opportunity for developing detailed mathematical models of biological processes. An iterative scheme is introduced for model identification using available system knowledge and experimental measurements. RESULTS: The scheme includes a state regulator algorithm that provides estimates of all system unknowns (concentrations of the system components and the reaction rates of their inter-conversion). The full system information is used for estimation of the model parameters. An optimal experiment design using the parameter identifiability and D-optimality criteria is formulated to provide "rich" experimental data for maximizing the accuracy of the parameter estimates in subsequent iterations. The importance of model identifiability tests for optimal measurement selection is also considered. The iterative scheme is tested on a model for the caspase function in apoptosis where it is demonstrated that model accuracy improves with each iteration. Optimal experiment design was determined to be critical for model identification. CONCLUSION: The proposed algorithm has general application to modeling a wide range of cellular processes, which include gene regulation networks, signal transduction and metabolic networks

General guidelines for safekeeping of high voltage transformers - Part 1

    Get PDF
Transformers such as HV/EHV (132 kV and above) are the most vital and costly equipment in power systems and large Industries. It is the prime duty of HV/EHV substation managers, asset managers, and substation Operation & Maintenance (O&M) engineers to look after transformers, beginning from receipt on-site through their lifecycle scrupulously with motherly feelings. Generally, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines must be followed. This article is a significant and important contribution of experienced engineers in O&M and testing and commissioning up to 400 kV in HV/EHV substations. The authors deliberate all the aspects from receiving the consignment of an EHV Transformer on-site through its lifecycle, including O&M and life expectancy enhancement. This article serves as a guideline for substation managers, asset managers, and substation engineers in the absence of any guidelines issued by their utilities or in the industry

Recent developments in sustainable manufacturing of gears: a review

    Get PDF
Abstract: Environment awareness is of the utmost importance to all socially responsible manufacturers. To be competitive on a global scale manufacturing needs to be aligned with various strict environmental regulations. The manufacturing industry at large is striving to improve productivity and product quality while maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. This can only be achieved by adopting sustainable techniques of manufacturing which include minimizing the number of manufacturing steps by employing advanced and alternative methods, environment-friendly lubricants and lubrication techniques while machining, reducing wastage, active waste management and minimizing energy consumption etc. Gear manufacturing industries, the major service providers to all other industrial and manufacturing segments are also focusing on to implement the techniques targeting overall sustainability. Some of the recent developments to achieve sustainability in gear manufacturing can be summarized as reducing the use of mineral-based cutting fluids by employing alternative lubrication techniques i.e. minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and dry machining, material saving, waste reduction, minimizing energy consumption and maintaining economic efficiency by reducing the number of gear manufacturing stages (eliminating the necessity of finishing processes) by utilizing advanced methods such as gear rolling and wire electric-discharge machining (WEDM), and finally increasing productivity by minimizing tool wear at high gear cutting speeds through the use of alternative tool materials and coatings. This paper reviews and amasses the current state of technology for sustainable manufacturing of gears and also recommends ways to improve the productivity and quality while simultaneously ensuring environmental sustainability

Vegetative Filter Education and Assessment in the State of Iowa

    Get PDF
Vegetative filter is one of the agricultural best management practices that helps reduce the deterioration of the surface waters. These filters use natural processes to remove a portion of the sediment and other pollutants carried by runoff before the water enters a water-body. The project aims at gathering elevation data in field-scale vegetative filters with the help of Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) and analyzes the flow accumulation with the help of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The overall vision and objectives for this project include (1) To determine the effectiveness of VFS by visual field observation and validation by flow mapping procedures in ArcGIS 9, (2) To compare the area ratios and percentage of flow along each stream segment at The authors are solely responsible for the content of this technical presentation.
