Binding between the neural cell adhesion molecules axonin-1 and Nr- CAM/Bravo is involved in neuron-glia interaction
Neural cell adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily mediate cellular interactions via homophilic binding to identical molecules and heterophilic binding to other family members or structurally unrelated cell-surface glycoproteins. Here we report on an interaction between axonin-1 and Nr-CAM/Bravo. In search for novel ligands of axonin-1, fluorescent polystyrene microspheres conjugated with axonin-1 were found to bind to peripheral glial cells from dorsal root ganglia. By antibody blockage experiments an axonin-1 receptor on the glial cells was identified as Nr-CAM. The specificity of the interaction was confirmed with binding studies using purified axonin-1 and Nr-CAM. In cultures of dissociated dorsal root ganglia antibodies against axonin-1 and Nr-CAM perturbed the formation of contacts between neurites and peripheral glial cells. Together, these results implicate a binding between axonin-1 of the neuritic and Nr-CAM of the glial cell membrane in the early phase of axon ensheathment in the peripheral nervous system
Action contribution to competence judgments: the use of the journey schema
The current research considered the question of how performing an action, or merely preparing the body for action, can have an impact on social judgments related to person perception. Participants were asked to ascribe competence and warmth characteristics to a target person by reading a metaphoric text while their body was manipulated to be prepared for the processing of action-congruent information. In Experiment 1, participants whose forward body action matched the metaphoric action described in the text ascribed more competence characteristics to a politician than did control participants. In Experiment 2, participants whose body was merely prepared for forward movement also ascribed more competence characteristics to a politician than did control participants. In addition, the data from Experiment 2 ruled out an alternative non-embodied explanation (i.e., that effect is due to basic associative processes) grounded in the existing literatures on attitudes by demonstrating that body manipulation had no effect on competence when a non-metaphoric text was used. Finally, no evidence was found that body manipulation affects warmth judgments. These studies converge in demonstrating that forward body movements enhance the favorability of competence judgments when these match the metaphoric forward movements described by text.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Design and analysis of a structural system for ZTH
A structural support system comprised largely of laminated epoxy fiberglass bulkheads has been designed for the ZTH air core machine, the initial experiment in the Confinement Physics Research Facility (CPRF) at LANL. Fiberglass was chosen to minimize magnetic field errors due to eddy currents. Magnetic fields for ZTH are produced, in part, by 18 poloidal field (PF) coils. Sixteen, equally spaced, 4 inch thick, radial G-10 bulkheads, positioned and held by a series of stainless steel ring beams, support the PF coils and the toroidal front end assembly. PF coils transfix and are supported by the bulkheads at locations dictated by magnetic field effects. The toroidal front end is mounted to the bulkheads by a spline ensuring constant alignment with the coil set while allowing differential expansion. The entire machine assembly is mounted on a central concrete cylinder with outboard stainless steel columns. Finite element analyses were performed as an integral part of the design process for the ZTH structure. Because of irregular shapes, multiple materials, different load cases and numerous geometric discontinuities conventional analyses of the structure could not be performed. Static and dynamic coil loads were applied to a model of the prototype support system to examine structural response. A discussion of the model, assumptions, load cases, boundary conditions, and results is given. Influence of the results on the design are presented. 3 refs

Post-transcriptional regulation of GABAB receptor and GIRK1 channels by Nogo receptor 1
Abstract
Background
Type B GABA receptors (GABA Rs) play a critical role in synaptic transmission. We carried out studies to determine whether neuronal cell surface expression of GABAB-Rs might be regulated by the Nogo receptor 1 (NgR1).
Results
siRNA knock-down of NgR1 resulted in a selective increase of GABAB R1 and GABAB R2 protein without altering the expression of GABAA receptor or GAD65. The increase in GABAB receptor subunits was unaccompanied by a change in mRNA, but inhibition of mTOR by rapamycin blocked the increase in GABAB protein. NgR1 siRNA also caused an increase in G protein coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channel (GIRK1). The increase in GABAB receptor and GIRK1 channel proteins was in the plasma membrane, determined by cell surface biotinylation. In NgR1 knockout mice, the amount of GABAB R2 and GIRK1 in hippocampus-derived synaptosomes was increased.
Conclusions
Together these findings suggest that NgR1 mediated modulation of synaptic transmission may be accomplished, at least in part, through modulation of G protein coupled receptors and channels.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/112645/1/13041_2013_Article_223.pd
Differentiated Papillary NUT Carcinoma: An Unexpected, Deceptively Bland Presentation of a Sinonasal Carcinoma
BACKGROUND
In recent years, the list of tumor entities in the sinonasal tract has significantly expanded, requiring advanced diagnostic testing. We report the case of a 32-year-old patient with an unusual NUT carcinoma originating in the maxillary sinus, which showed extensive well-differentiated, papillary squamous morphology, similar to the spectrum of the recently described DEK::AFF2 fusion-associated carcinoma.
METHODS
We performed immunohistochemical and molecular studies including EBV- and HPV-testing, as well as DNA/RNA next generation sequencing.
RESULTS
The tumor showed predominantly exophytic papillary growth with mature squamous differentiation. An additional component harbored atypical, less differentiated basaloid tumor cells with infiltration of the adjacent stroma. Conspicuous inflammation was evident. There was no evidence of HPV DNA or EBV RNA. Next-generation sequencing revealed a NUT::NSD3 gene fusion corresponding to ("speckled-type") immunopositivity of NUT in the tumor cells.
CONCLUSIONS
We describe a NUT::NSD3 gene fusion-associated NUT carcinoma of the sinonasal tract with a deceptively well-differentiated papillary growth pattern, thus expanding the morphological spectrum of this typically poorly differentiated neoplasm

Molecular dissection of the myelin-associated glycoprotein receptor complex reveals cell type–specific mechanisms for neurite outgrowth inhibition
Neuronal Nogo66 receptor-1 (NgR1) binds the myelin inhibitors NogoA, OMgp, and myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and has been proposed to function as the ligand-binding component of a receptor complex that also includes Lingo-1, p75NTR, or TROY. In this study, we use Vibrio cholerae neuraminidase (VCN) and mouse genetics to probe the molecular composition of the MAG receptor complex in postnatal retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). We find that VCN treatment is not sufficient to release MAG inhibition of RGCs; however, it does attenuate MAG inhibition of cerebellar granule neurons. Furthermore, the loss of p75NTR is not sufficient to release MAG inhibition of RGCs, but p75NTR−/− dorsal root ganglion neurons show enhanced growth on MAG compared to wild-type controls. Interestingly, TROY is not a functional substitute for p75NTR in RGCs. Finally, NgR1−/− RGCs are strongly inhibited by MAG. In the presence of VCN, however, NgR1−/− RGCs exhibit enhanced neurite growth. Collectively, our experiments reveal distinct and cell type–specific mechanisms for MAG-elicited growth inhibition
Are we getting less sexist? a ten-year gap comparison analysis of sexism in a Portuguese sample
Widely and slowly, discrimination against women based upon gender has become socially unacceptable. However, less is known about how sexist beliefs have progressed in the last years and if we are responding to this social antagonizing of a sexist discourse. Our goal was to verify the existence of differences in ambivalent sexism and neosexism over a ten-year gap in a Portuguese adult sample and to assess possible modifications in the relationship between the variables. A cross-sectional, correlational study was conducted using two independent groups, with measures taken in 2009 and then in 2019. Both groups were invariant in terms of average age and proportion of sexes. Our results show a decrease in hostile and benevolent forms of sexism, while neosexism remains constant. The relationships between variables suggest that sexist beliefs are changing to accommodate subtler and modernized forms of sexism, like neosexism, that deny the existence of discrimination against women, resent discrimination complaints, and maintain a paternalistic view of women. Neosexism also seems to have a stronger correlation with hostile sexism than with benevolent forms of sexism in the male subsample. This relationship is stronger for the 2019 sample. These relationships suggest that sexism is more deeply rooted than we would like to admit and adapts to social discourse.
