    Smart and networking underwater robots in cooperation meshes : the swarms ECSEL : H2020 project

    The work presented on this paper is aimed to explain the role that unmanned underwater vehicles (AUVs/ROVs) plays in the ECSEL-H2020 SWARMS project. The main goal of the project is to reduce the operational cost and increase the safety of tasks assigned to divers in these operations. This will be achieved enabling the AUVs/ROVs to work in a cooperative mesh. The challenge is to design and develop an integrated platform (a set of Software/Hardware components), incorporated into the current generation of underwater vehicles in order to improve autonomy, cooperation, robustness, cost-effectiveness, and reliability of the offshore operations. The first demonstration of the project will be performed at PLOCAN (Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands) where these technologies will be validated on its first stage.Peer Reviewe

    Constant of Motion for several one-dimensional systems and outlining the problem associated with getting their Hamiltonians

    The constants of motion of the following systems are deduced: a relativistic particle with linear dissipation, a no-relativistic particle with a time explicitly depending force, a no-relativistic particle with a constant force and time depending mass, and a relativistic particle under a conservative force with position depending mass. The problem of getting the Hamiltonian for these systems is determined by getting the velocity as an explicit function of position and generalized linear momentum, and this problem can be solved a first approximation for the first above system.Comment: 15 pages, Te

    Effective electronic response of a system of metallic cylinders

    The electronic response of a composite consisting of aligned metallic cylinders in vacuum is investigated, on the basis of photonic band structure calculations. The effective long-wavelength dielectric response function is computed, as a function of the filling fraction. A spectral representation of the effective response is considered, and the surface mode strengths and positions are analyzed. The range of validity of a Maxwell-Garnett-like approach is discussed, and the impact of our results on absorption spectra and electron energy-loss phenomena is addressed.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Phys.     Hypomagnesemia has been related to high accumulated doses of cisplatin, and its clinical presence is characterized by neuromuscular and cardiovascular alterations. We present the case of an advanced cancer patient who had received successive lines of chemotherapy and who was receiving opioid treatment for cancer pain. During his hospital stay, he experienced visual hallucinations and very intense, unexplained pain in one shoulder. Symptoms reverted with the normalization of his plasma magnesium levels, which were low. We consider that plasma magnesium levels should be monitored in oncology patients with neurological or psychiatric symptoms or with unusual pain

    Theoretical insight on the LK-99 material

    Two recent preprints in physics archive (arXiv) have called the attention as they claim experimental evidence that a Cu-substituted apatite material (called LK-99) exhibits superconductivity at room temperature and pressure. If this proves to be true, LK-99 will be the holy grail of superconductors. In this work, we used Density-Functional Theory calculations to elucidate some key features of the electronic structure of LK-99. Although some aspects of our calculations are preliminary, we found that: i) in the ground state of the material the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic configurations are practically degenerated, ii) the material is metallic, iii) the Cu atoms seem to be hosts in the lattice with not covalent bonds to other atoms and supporting almost flat bands around the Fermi level, and iv) the electron-phonon coupling of these flat bands seems to be dramatically large
