Non-localities and Fermi motion corrections in atoms
We evaluate the p-wave amplitudes from the chiral Lagrangians and from
there construct the p-wave part of the nucleus optical potential plus a
small s-wave part induced from the elementary p-wave amplitude and the nuclear
Fermi motion. Simultaneously, the momentum and energy dependence of the s-wave
optical potential, previously developed, are taken into account and shown to
generate a small p-wave correction to the optical potential. All the
corrections considered are small compared to the leading s-wave potential, and
lead to changes in the shifts and widths which are smaller than the
experimental errors.
A thorough study of the threshold region and low densities is conducted,
revealing mathematical problems for which a physical solution is given.Comment: revised version, 28 pages, Latex, 8 postscript figures. Submitted to

Odd Parity Light Baryon Resonances
We use a consistent SU(6) extension of the meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian
within a coupled channel unitary approach in order to calculate the T-matrix
for meson-baryon scattering in s-wave. The building blocks of the scheme are
the pion and nucleon octets, the rho nonet and the Delta decuplet. We identify
poles in this unitary T-matrix and interpret them as resonances. We study here
the non exotic sectors with strangeness S=0,-1,-2,-3 and spin J=1/2, 3/2 and
5/2. Many of the poles generated can be associated with known N, Delta, Sigma,
Lambda and Xi resonances with negative parity. We show that most of the
low-lying three and four star odd parity baryon resonances with spin 1/2 and
3/2 can be related to multiplets of the spin-flavor symmetry group SU(6). This
study allows us to predict the spin-parity of the Xi(1620), Xi(1690), Xi(1950),
Xi(2250), Omega(2250) and Omega(2380) resonances, which have not been
determined experimentally yet.Comment: New appendix and references adde
Nuclear response functions in homogeneous matter with finite range effective interactions
The question of nuclear response functions in a homogeneous medium is
examined. A general method for calculating response functions in the random
phase approximation (RPA) with exchange is presented. The method is applicable
for finite-range nuclear interactions. Examples are shown in the case of
symmetric nuclear matter described by a Gogny interaction. It is found that the
convergence of the results with respect to the multipole truncation is quite
fast. Various approximation schemes such as the Landau approximation, or the
Landau approximation for the exchange terms only, are discussed in comparison
with the exact results.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure
Charmed hadrons in nuclear medium
We study the properties of charmed hadrons in dense matter within a
coupled-channel approach which accounts for Pauli blocking effects and meson
self-energies in a self-consistent manner. We analyze the behaviour in this
dense environment of dynamically-generated baryonic resonances as well as the
open-charm meson spectral functions. We discuss the implications of the
in-medium properties of open-charm mesons on the and the
predicted X(3700) scalar resonances.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, invited parallel talk in the 5th International

Strange and charm mesons at FAIR
We study the properties of strange and charm mesons in hot and dense matter
within a self-consistent coupled-channel approach for the experimental
conditions of density and temperature expected for the CBM experiment at
FAIR/GSI. The in-medium solution at finite temperature accounts for Pauli
blocking effects, mean-field binding of all the baryons involved, and meson
self-energies. We analyze the behaviour in this hot and dense environment of
dynamically-generated baryonic resonances together with the evolution with
density and temperature of the strange and open-charm meson spectral functions.
We test the spectral functions for strange mesons using energy-weighted sum
rules and finally discuss the implications of the properties of charm mesons on
the D_{s0}(2317) and the predicted X(3700) scalar resonances.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, invited talk at XXXI Mazurian Lakes Conference

-Nucleus Scattering at Low and Intermediate Energies
We calculate -nucleus elastic differential, reaction and total cross
sections for different nuclei (C,Ca and Pb) at several
laboratory antikaon momenta, ranging from 127 MeV to 800 MeV. We use different
antikaon-nucleus optical potentials, some of them fitted to kaonic atom data,
and study the sensitivity of the cross sections to the considered
antikaon-nucleus dynamics.Comment: Only 4 pages, Latex, 3 Figures. This version is much shorter than the

Multiobjective optimization of polymer extrusion: decision making and robustness
A Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) is used to optimize polymer single screw extrusion. In this approach, the MOEA is linked to a modelling routine that quantifies the objectives as a function of the decision variables (i.e., operating conditions and/or screw geometry). Due to the conflicting nature of some objectives, the optimization algorithm uses a set of possible solutions to the problem that evolves during suc-cessive generations to a set of optimal solutions denoted as Pareto set. Since practical process optimization should yield a single solution, it is convenient to implement also a Decision Making (DM) strategy. Two methodologies were followed. In one case, the solutions were selected based on the preferences of a decision maker. Alternatively, the sensitivity of the solutions to small changes in the design variables was taken into account through a robustness analysis. The analysis of various case studies and the comparison with experi-mental data validated the method and demonstrates its potential. This work was supported by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia under grant PEst-C/CTM/LA0025/2013 (Projecto Estratégico - LA 25 - 2013-2014 - Strategic Project - LA 25 - 2013-2014).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Chiral dynamics of hadrons in nuclei
In this talk I report on selected topics of hadron modification in the
nuclear medium using the chiral unitary approach to describe the dynamics of
the problems. I shall mention how antikaons, , and are modified in
the medium and will report upon different experiments done or planned to
measure the width in the medium.Comment: 10 pgs, 3 figs. Invited talk in the Workshop on in Medium Hadron

Low-lying even parity meson resonances and spin-flavor symmetry
A study is presented of the wave meson-meson interactions involving
members of the nonet and of the octet. The starting point is an
SU(6) spin-flavor extension of the SU(3) flavor Weinberg-Tomozawa Lagrangian.
SU(6) symmetry breaking terms are then included to account for the physical
meson masses and decay constants, while preserving partial conservation of the
axial current in the light pseudoscalar sector. Next, the matrix amplitudes
are obtained by solving the Bethe Salpeter equation in coupled-channel with the
kernel built from the above interactions. The poles found on the first and
second Riemann sheets of the amplitudes are identified with their possible
Particle Data Group (PDG) counterparts. It is shown that most of the low-lying
even parity PDG meson resonances, specially in the and sectors,
can be classified according to multiplets of the spin-flavor symmetry group
SU(6). The , and some resonances cannot be
accommodated within this SU(6) scheme and thus they would be clear candidates
to be glueballs or hybrids. Finally, we predict the existence of five exotic
resonances ( and/or ) with masses in the range 1.4--1.6 GeV,
which would complete the , , and multiplets of
SU(3)SU(2).Comment: 43 pages, 2 figures, 61 tables. Improved discussion of Section II. To
