A density functional study of pressure induced superconductivity in P and its implication for spintronics

The stability of high-pressure phases of P has been studied using density functional theory and the local density approximation. Using a linear response technique, we have calculated the phonon spectrum and electron-phonon interaction for bcc P and predict it to be superconducting with $T_c$ of 19 K. We propose that this phase might be realized in epitaxial thin films using templates such as V(100), Fe(100) or Cr(100) relevant to spintronics applications.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Як викладати міжкультурну комунікацію на уроках німецької мови (How to teach intercultural communication at German lessons)

Стаття розглядатиме термін «міжкультурної комунікації« і покаже, як цю ключову компетенцію можна викладати на уроках німецької. Мова і культура тісно пов‘язані між собою і повинні викладатись разом. Будуть представлені деякі теорії та методи, також будуть запропоновані конкретні вправи. (The article will deal with the term «intercultural communication» and will then show, how this key competence can be taught at German lessons. Language and culture are closely linked together and have to be learnt together. Some theories and methodologies will be shown and discussed as well as concrete exercises. One theory is the so called «iceberg» theory: Culture can be seen above the water (= visible culture) but the majority of cultural habits are below the water (= non visible). At the lessons teacher should do some comparable exercises to show how culture can be different.

Os Manuais de Direito Romano na Formação do Jurisconsulto Clóvis Beviláqua

O artigo tem o objetivo de investigar a influência dos manuais de direito romano na formação intelectual de Clóvis Beviláqua. A importância da pesquisa é identificar as correntes teóricas que contribuíram para a formação do pensamento de Beviláqua, autor do Código Civil de 1916. Para tanto, o presente artigo segue os rastros dos manuais e os autores estrangeiros lidos por Beviláqua, assim como as lições do seu professor de direito romano e o contexto intelectual da Faculdade de Direito do Recife. Trata-se, portanto, de um exercício de história do direito que pretende demonstrar a sintonia entre a produção e o pensamento deste autor com a época em que viveu e o processo de construção da cultura jurídica brasileira

Статтю присвячено виявленню та характеристиці особливостей навчання професійної англійської мови студентів гуманітарних нефілологічних спеціальностей. Автором сформульовано концептуальні основи навчання англійської мови за професійним спрямуванням та з’ясовано вимоги до змісту навчальних матеріалів для професійного aнгломовного читання. (Teaching professional English tends to be a key element in the system of higher education. Requirements of the modern world, integration processes and corresponding normative documents make students and teachers reconsider their aims and tasks. Properly defined goals of learning the peculiarity of Europe and its culture make students be interested in the processes that lead to preserving the unity of Europe. The article is devoted to clearing out the peculiarities of teaching professional English to students of humanitarian non-philological specialities. The author formulated conceptual basics of teaching professional English and defined requirements to the content of teaching materials for professional English reading. The material helps students pay attention to the global changes and form their own attitude towards them.

P-curve accurately rejects evidence for homeopathic ultramolecular dilutions

Background P-curve has been proposed as a statistical test of evidential value. The distributions of sets of statistically significant p-values are tested for skewness. P-curves of true effects are right-skewed, with greater density at lower p-values than higher p-values. Analyses of null effects result in a flat or left-skewed distribution. The accuracy of p-curve has not been tested using published research analyses of a null effect. We examined whether p-curve accurately rejects a set of significant p-values obtained for a nonexistent effect. Methods Homeopathic ultramolecular dilutions are medicinal preparations with active substances diluted beyond Avogadro’s number. Such dilute mixtures are unlikely to contain a single molecule of an active substance. We tested whether p-curve accurately rejects the evidential value of significant results obtained in placebo-controlled clinical trials of homeopathic ultramolecular dilutions. Results P-curve accurately rejected the evidential value of significant results obtained in placebo-controlled clinical trials of ultramolecular dilutions. Robustness testing using alternate p-values yielded similar results. Conclusion Our results suggest that p-curve can accurately detect when sets of statistically significant results lack evidential value

Hahnemann's legacy in a new light - A systematic approach to the Organon of Medicine

The sixth edition of Samuel Hahnemann's Organon of Medicine is an obligatory work of reference for homeopathy. Nevertheless, its philosophy can be questioned with constructivistic and historistic objections. Three Ieveis of content may be distinguished: (1) practical directions and maxims, (2) theoretical explanations and hypotheses, (3) conceptual foundations and premises. ldeally, these Ieveis should be considered, studied, and taught separately and gradually. My new German edition of the Organon, published in 2003, tries to meet these demands. lt contains: (A) a complete version of Hahnemann's original text, in the original order of paragraphs, but in modern German with section headings, summary boxes, etc added, (B) another full version of its content, organized in three Ieveis, as indicated above, (C) a glossary of about 400 problematic terms

Le concours pour la reconstruction de l’hôtel de Ville de Paris (1872-1873), un échec pour l’architecte Jean-Louis Pascal

Jean-Louis Pascal est un jeune architecte de trente-cinq ans quand il se lance dans l’aventure du concours pour la reconstruction de l’Hôtel de Ville de Paris. Désigné depuis 1871 comme inspecteur des travaux au Louvre, il est sous-employé par Hector Lefuel qui ne l’aime pas. Se trouvant dans un relatif désoeuvrement, il tente sa chance dans ce concours au programme ambigu et aux exigences contradictoires. La majorité des projets primés ne respecteront pas une des exigences du concours qui était de se maintenir sur les anciennes substructions de l’Hôtel de Ville. On critiquera Pascal pour avoir réalisé un pastiche de la façade du Boccador – volonté cependant contenue dans le programme – tout en lui reprochant d’avoir noyé cette ancienne façade sous les motifs néo-renaissants.Jean-Louis Pascal is a fifty-five years old architect when he tries to compete for the reconstruction of the Paris’ Hôtel de Ville. In 1871, Pascal was appointed building control officer of the Louvre, and is at such underemployed by Hector Lefuel, who doesn’t like him. So, being at a loose end, Pascal tries his luck in this competition whose program is equivocal and contradictory. Most of awarded projects did not respect one of the program’s demand which was to reconstruct the Hôtel de Ville on the former foundations. Pascal was blamed for making a pastiche of the Boccador’s Hôtel de Ville, which was, by the way, another program’s demand, and, at the same time, he was criticized to have covered the façade with too many Renaissance patterns.Im Alter von 35 Jahren entschloss sich der junge Architekt Jean-Louis Pascal, sich am Wettbewerb um den Wiederaufbau des Pariser Rathauses zu beteiligen. Seit 1871 zum Inspektor der Bauarbeiten am Louvre ernannt, wurde er dort von Hector Lefuel, der ihn nicht leiden konnte, einfach unterfordert. In diesem Zustand einer relativen beruflichen Inaktivität versuchte Pascal also sein Glück mit diesem Wettbewerb, dessen unklares Programm besonders widersprüchliche Anforderungen stellte. Die meisten prämierten Entwürfe hielten die Bedingung des Wettbewerbs nicht ein, nach der die Fundamente des früheren Rathauses beachtet werden sollten. Es wurde Pascal zweierlei vorgeworfen : einerseits ein Pasticcio der Fassade des Boccadoro entworfen zu haben – was dem gewünschten Programm doch entsprach – andererseits diese alte Fassade hinter Ornamenten im Neo- Renaissance Stil verdeckt zu haben
