Hypersonic ramjet experiment project. Phase 1: Computer program description, ramjet and scramjet cycle performance
A computer program was developed to describe the performance of ramjet and scramjet cycles. The program performs one dimensional calculations of the equilibrium, real-gas internal flow properties of the engine. The program can be used for the following: (1) preliminary design calculation and (2) design analysis of internal flow properties corresponding to stipulated flow areas. Only the combustion of hydrogen in air is considered in this case
Invariant graphical method for electron-atom scattering coupled-channel equations
We present application examples of a graphical method for the efficient
construction of potential matrix elements in quantum physics or quantum
chemistry. The simplicity and power of this method are illustrated through
several examples. In particular, a complete set of potential matrix elements
for electron-Lithium scattering are derived for the first time using this
method, which removes the frozen core approximation adopted by previous
studies. This method can be readily adapted to study other many-body quantum
systems
How Saturated are Absorption Lines in the Broad Absorption Line Quasar PG 1411+442 ?
Recently, convincing evidence was found for extremely large X-ray absorption
by column densities in broad absorption line quasars. One
consequence of this is that any soft X-ray emission from these QSOs would be
the scattered light or leaked light from partially covering absorbing material.
A detection of the unabsorbed soft X-ray and absorbed hard X-ray compo nent
will allow to determine the total column density as well as the effective
covering factor of the absorbing material, which can be hardly obtained from
the UV absorption lines. Brinkmann et al. (1999) showed that both the
unabsorbed and absorbed components are detected in the nearby very bright broad
absorption line quasar PG 1411+442. In this letter, we make a further analysis
of the broad band X-ray spectrum and the UV spectrum from HST, and demonstrate
that broad absorption lines are completely saturated at the bottom of

Fabrication of a high sensitive Ag-nanoparticle substrate and its application to the detection of toxic substances
Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) is typically observed with the substrate in a liquid medium and it has been proposed as a promising technique for detecting low levels of pollutants in liquids. A technique is presented for self-assembly to immobilize Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs), with diameters ranging from 100 to 800nm on a solid support. Experimental results have been obtained through experiments using Ag-NPs active substrates to detect Rhodamine 6G (R6G) and crystal violet in the deionized water. Further, the SERS spectrum and Raman spectrum of phoxim were also measured, showing the enhancement in the performance of the active substrate as a result
Likelihood Analysis of Repeating in the BATSE Catalogue
I describe a new likelihood technique, based on counts-in-cells statistics,
that I use to analyze repeating in the BATSE 1B and 2B catalogues. Using the 1B
data, I find that repeating is preferred over non-repeating by 4.3:1 odds, with
a well-defined peak at 5-6 repetitions per source. I find that the post-1B data
are consistent with the repeating model inferred from the 1B data, after taking
into account the lower fraction of bursts with well-determined positions.
Combining the two data sets, I find that the odds favoring repeating over
non-repeating are almost unaffected at 4:1, with a narrower peak at 5
repetitions per source. I conclude that the data sets are consistent both with
each other and with repeating, and that for these data sets the odds favor
