Membrane Computing as a Modelling Tool: Looking Back and Forward from Sevilla
This paper is a tribute to Prof. Mario de JesĂșs PĂ©rez-
Jiménez. An overview of modelling applications in membrane computing
has been compiled, trying to narrate it from a historical perspective
and including numerous bibliographical references. Since being exhaustive
was obviously out of scope, this quick tour on almost two decades
of applications is biased, paying special attention to the contributions
in which Prof. Pérez-Jiménez and members of his research group were

Twenty years of coordination technologies: State-of-the-art and perspectives
Since complexity of inter- and intra-systems interactions is steadily increasing in modern application scenarios (e.g., the IoT), coordination technologies are required to take a crucial step towards maturity. In this paper we look back at the history of the COORDINATION conference in order to shed light on the current status of the coordination technologies there proposed throughout the years, in an attempt to understand success stories, limitations, and possibly reveal the gap between actual technologies, theoretical models, and novel application needs
Gamma and the chemical reaction model: fifteen years after
Gamma was originally proposed in 1986 as a formalism for the definition of programs without artificial sequentiality. The basic idea underlying the formalism is to describe computation as a form of chemical reaction on a collection of individual pieces of data. Due to the very minimal nature of the language, and its absence of sequential bias, it has been possible to exploit this initial paradigm in various directions. This paper reviews most of the work around Gamma considered as a programming or as a specification language. A special emphasis is placed on unexpected applications of the chemical reaction model, showing that this paradigm has been a source of inspiration in various research areas
