A new method of Curie depth evaluation from magnetic data: Theory
An approach to estimating the Curie point isotherm uses the classical Gauss method inverting a system of nonlinear equations. The method, slightly modified by a differential correction technique, directly inverts filtered Magsat data to calculate the crustal structure above the Curie depth, which is modeled as a magnetized layer of varying thickness and susceptibility. Since the depth below the layer is assumed to be nonmagnetic, the bottom of the layer is interpreted as the Curie depth. The method, once fully developed, tested, and compared with previous work by others, is to be applied to a portion of the eastern U.S. when sufficient Magsat data are accumulated for the region
Compatibility study of the MAGSAT data and aeromagnetic data
The results of (1) an analysis of the fine attitude MAGSAT data covering the continental U.S., (2) analysis of the Project MAGNET U.S. aeromagnetic data in terms of its compatibility with the corresponding MAGSAT data, and finally, (3) analysis of MAGSAT data in the Pacific region and comparison with satellite gravity data are presented. All data reduction procedures are described and the resulting magnetic maps are given. The results indicate a general compatibility between the MAGSAT data and the MAGNET and gravity data
Cooperative Caching for Multimedia Streaming in Overlay Networks
Traditional data caching, such as web caching, only focuses on how to boost the hit rate of requested objects in caches, and therefore, how to reduce the initial delay for object retrieval. However, for multimedia objects, not only reducing the delay of object retrieval, but also provisioning reasonably stable network bandwidth to clients, while the fetching of the cached objects goes on, is important as well. In this paper, we propose our cooperative caching scheme for a multimedia delivery scenario, supporting a large number of peers over peer-to-peer overlay networks. In order to facilitate multimedia streaming and downloading service from servers, our caching scheme (1) determines the appropriate availability of cached stream segments in a cache community, (2) determines the appropriate peer for cache replacement, and (3) performs bandwidth-aware and availability-aware cache replacement. By doing so, it achieves (1) small delay of stream retrieval, (2) stable bandwidth provisioning during retrieval session, and (3) load balancing of clients' requests among peers
Noncommutative open strings from Dirac quantization
We study Dirac commutators of canonical variables on D-branes with a constant
Neveu-Schwarz 2-form field by using the Dirac constraint quantization method,
and point out some subtleties appearing in previous works in analyzing
constraint structure of the brane system. Overcoming some ad hoc procedures, we
obtain desirable noncommutative coordinates exactly compatible with the result
of the conformal field theory in recent literatures. Furthermore, we find

U.S./CANADA GRAIN HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
The United States and Canada have developed very different grain handling and transportation systems (GHTSs) over the last several decades to compete for global and domestic markets in Canada and the United States under CUSTA. Because the grain industries in both countries face long distance hauls, GHTSs are critically important to their operations and to producer returns. There has been considerable pressure for change in Canada's grain handling and transportation sector. Some industry trends, such as the rationalization of elevators in the Prairies and investments in new high through-put facilities, are being driven by market and competitive forces. Changes in grain handling, reciprocal access to marketing functions, and elimination of rate caps may have a significant impact on cross-border grain flows. Canadian Transport announced reforms to improve the efficiency of its GHTS. Possible multi-level effects, created by the reform package, would affect the grain flow from Canada to the United States. Three dimensional fast tracker for central drift chamber based level 1 trigger system in the Belle II experiment
The Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB accelerator has a level 1 trigger
implemented in field-programmable gate arrays. Due to the high luminosity of
the beam, a trigger that effectively rejects beam induced background is
required. A three dimensional tracking algorithm for the level 1 trigger that
uses the Belle II central drift chamber detector response is being developed to
reduce the recorded beam background while having a high efficiency for physics
of interest. In this paper, we describe the three dimensional track trigger

Thermal expansion of liquid Ti–6Al–4V measured by electrostatic levitation
The liquid density of Ti–6Al–4V was measured over a temperature range from 1661 to 1997 K that included undercooling by as much as 280 K. The sample was levitated in an electrostatic levitator and video imaging technique was used to capture the volume changes as a function of temperature. Over the temperature range the liquid density can be expressed by rholiq(T)=4123–0.254 (T–Tm) kg/m^3, where the melting temperature Tm is 1943 K. The corresponding volume expansion coefficient is alphaliq=6.05×10^–5 K^–1 near Tm
LAND-USE CHANGE AND CARBON SEQUESTRATION IN THE FORESTS OF OHIO, INDIANA, AND ILLINOIS: SENSITIVITY TO POPULATION AND MODEL CHOICE
This study develops a model of land use change in the Midwestern States of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Given the emergence of spatial econometrics, three models are compared to assess the sensitivity of the estimates to alternative assumptions about the distribution of their errors. Projections of future land use change are then developed, and the results are compared across different assumptions about population growth and models. We then estimate carbon sequestration potential in the region and compare the costs of different programs across the population assumptions and the alternative models.
