    The Therapeutic Interview Process in Qualitative Research Studies

    The purpose of this paper is to describe the systemic strategies used in marriage and family therapy relevant to interviews, via what we call the therapeutic interview process, that expand the meaning of a research study for both the counselor researcher and the participant(s). We outline the therapeutic interview process for conducting transformative - based interviews via similar strategies from a family systems perspective conceptualized by Charlés (2007). The central core of the interview process is the therapeutic conversation itself that involves the systemic whole.     Recent progress in the JARVIS infrastructure for next-generation data-driven materials design

    The Joint Automated Repository for Various Integrated Simulations (JARVIS) infrastructure at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a large-scale collection of curated datasets and tools with more than 80000 materials and millions of properties. JARVIS uses a combination of electronic structure, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced computation and experimental methods to accelerate materials design. Here we report some of the new features that were recently included in the infrastructure such as: 1) doubling the number of materials in the database since its first release, 2) including more accurate electronic structure methods such as Quantum Monte Carlo, 3) including graph neural network-based materials design, 4) development of unified force-field, 5) development of a universal tight-binding model, 6) addition of computer-vision tools for advanced microscopy applications, 7) development of a natural language processing tool for text-generation and analysis, 8) debuting a large-scale benchmarking endeavor, 9) including quantum computing algorithms for solids, 10) integrating several experimental datasets and 11) staging several community engagement and outreach events. New classes of materials, properties, and workflows added to the database include superconductors, two-dimensional (2D) magnets, magnetic topological materials, metal-organic frameworks, defects, and interface systems. The rich and reliable datasets, tools, documentation, and tutorials make JARVIS a unique platform for modern materials design. JARVIS ensures openness of data and tools to enhance reproducibility and transparency and to promote a healthy and collaborative scientific environment

    Rural and regional Australian public accounting firm services : service provision, concerns and tensions

    Public accounting firms provide a necessary and important service for rural and regional areas. However, the provision of high-quality services is hindered by a number of factors. This paper reports the findings from a large-scale survey of professional accounting firm practitioners located in rural and regional Australia, identifying factors causing concerns and tensions and quantifying their scope and importance. Prominent concerns and tensions identified include adverse effects arising from the employment market, communications technology developments and legislation such as the Corporate Law Economic Reform Program (Audit Reform and Corporate Disclosure) Act 2004 and the Financial Services Reform Act 2001

    China and the crisis : global power, domestic caution and local initiative

    Even though the global crisis had a quick and dramatic impact on Chinese exports, the Chinese government responded with a range of policy responses that have helped maintain high rates of growth. This success has helped propel China to the centre of global politics, accelerating what many perceive to be a power shift from the West to China. But these gains were achieved by reversing policy in previous years designed to make a fundamental shift in China‟s mode of development, and have highlighted the problems associated with making such a transition. At the moment that many are looking at the Chinese "model" as a potential alternative to the Washington Consensus, one of the consequences of the crisis is to further question the long term efficacy of this "model" in China itself

    Tourism policy and destination marketing in developing countries: the chain of influence

    Tourism marketers including destination marketing organisations (DMOs) and international tour operators play a pivotal role in destination marketing, especially in creating destination images. These images, apparent in tourist brochures, are designed to influence tourist decision-making and behaviour. This paper proposes the concept of a “chain of influence” in destination marketing and image-making, suggesting that the content of marketing materials is influenced by the priorities of those who design these materials, e.g. tour operators and DMOs. A content analysis of 2,000 pictures from DMO and tour operator brochures revealed synergies and divergence between these marketers. The brochure content was then compared to the South African tourism policy, concluding that the dominant factor in the chain of influence in the South African context is in fact its organic image

    CRISPR-Cas9 Mediated Epitope Tagging Provides Accurate and Versatile Assessment of Myocardin

    Objective- Unreliable antibodies often hinder the accurate detection of an endogenous protein, and this is particularly true for the cardiac and smooth muscle cofactor, MYOCD (myocardin). Accordingly, the mouse Myocd locus was targeted with 2 independent epitope tags for the unambiguous expression, localization, and activity of MYOCD protein. Approach and Results- 3cCRISPR (3-component clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat) was used to engineer a carboxyl-terminal 3×FLAG or 3×HA epitope tag in mouse embryos. Western blotting with antibodies to each tag revealed a MYOCD protein product of ≈150 kDa, a size considerably larger than that reported in virtually all publications. MYOCD protein was most abundant in some adult smooth muscle-containing tissues with surprisingly low-level expression in the heart. Both alleles of Myocd are active in aorta because a 2-fold increase in protein was seen in mice homozygous versus heterozygous for FLAG-tagged Myocd. ChIP (chromatin immunoprecipitation)-quantitative polymerase chain reaction studies provide proof-of-principle data demonstrating the utility of this mouse line in conducting genome-wide ChIP-seq studies to ascertain the full complement of MYOCD-dependent target genes in vivo. Although FLAG-tagged MYOCD protein was undetectable in sections of adult mouse tissues, low-passaged vascular smooth muscle cells exhibited expected nuclear localization. Conclusions- This report validates new mouse models for analyzing MYOCD protein expression, localization, and binding activity in vivo and highlights the need for rigorous authentication of antibodies in biomedical research
