A total of 10 Sorghum cultivar: two lines (CMSXS114, T ) and (CMSXS165, WT ), six hybrids ( 9953101,T; 9953130,T; BR601, WT; BR701, T; BR700, T; and AG2005, WT and two varieties (BR501, WT; and BR506, WT) with 8 replications were ensiled in PVC silos of 3 kg per silo for 60 days and then analyzed for condensed tannins (CT) (colorimetric analysis by the butanol-HCl method), CP, NDF, ADF, and in vitro (IVDMD-24 and 48hs) digestibilities. Condensed tannins (CT) from quebracho were purified using affinity chromatography with sephadex LH-20 and used as a standard. Low concentrations of CT have been defined as 10 g kg-1 DM or less and medium as 10 to 40 g kg-1 DM, and levels exceeding 40 g kg-1 DM as high. Hybrid 9953130 had the highest concentration of CT among the sorghum silages (P 0.09). The highest CP content was noted for line CMSXS165 (97.4 gkg-1; P < 0.05). Concentrations of CP in CMSXS114 (83.2 g kg-1), BR 700 (76.4 g kg-1), BR701 (80.5 g kg-1), and AG2005 (79.2 g kg-1) were above the overall mean (74.0 g kg-1). The in vitro digestibilities (24 and 48 hours) of the two isogenics lines CMSXS114 (T) and CMSXS165 (WT) were not different. We concluded that the CT level did not affect digestibility; however, relative CT concentrations were low. Therefore, we could not suggest significant effects of CT content on DM intake, digestibility levels or performance in cattle fed with any of these sorghum silages

The N terminus of the peroxisomal cycling receptor, Pex5p, is required for redirecting the peroxisome-associated peroxin back to the cytosol

Most newly synthesized peroxisomal matrix proteins are transported to the organelle by Pex5p, a remarkable multidomain protein involved in an intricate network of transient protein-protein interactions. Presently, our knowledge regarding the structure/function of amino acid residues 118 to the very last residue of mammalian Pex5p is quite vast. Indeed, the cargo-protein receptor domain as well as the binding sites for several peroxins have all been mapped to this region of Pex5p. In contrast, structural/functional data regarding the first 117 amino acid residues of Pex5p are still scarce. Here we show that a truncated Pex5p lacking the first 110 amino acid residues (DeltaN110-Pex5p) displays exactly the peroxisomal import properties of the full-length peroxin implying that this N-terminal domain is involved neither in cargo-protein binding nor in the docking/translocation step of the Pex5p-cargo protein complex at the peroxisomal membrane. However, the ATP-dependent export step of DeltaN110-Pex5p from the peroxisomal membrane is completely blocked, a phenomenon that was also observed for a Pex5p version lacking just the first 17 amino acid residues but not for a truncated protein comprising amino acid residues 1-324 of Pex5p. By exploring the unique properties of DeltaN110-Pex5p, the effect of temperature on the import/export kinetics of Pex5p was characterized. Our data indicate that the export step of Pex5p from the peroxisomal compartment ( in contrast with its insertion into the organelle membrane) is highly dependent on the temperature

DC-DC power converter for high power solar photovoltaic system

    Get PDF
Worldwide there is an enormous dependence on fossil fuels to produce electricity. Burning fossil fuels results in CO2 emission into the atmosphere, causing a negative environmental impact. In order to mitigate these problems, there is a need to integrate renewable energy sources into the power grid, namely solar photovoltaic (PV) energy. Power electronics converter solutions for solar PV module interface are vast and have advantages and disadvantages depending on the purpose. In addition, when the purpose is efficiency, it is important to consider the choice of the most appropriate power semiconductors. This paper presents a study, sizing, and development of a DC-DC power converter for high-power solar PV applications. In this study, a DC-DC boost interleaved power converter with two arms controlled by an incremental conductance Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control algorithm is proposed. The MPPT is combined with a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller for individual control of the current on each arm and was applied to extract the maximum power available at the solar PV module for different solar radiation and temperature conditions. The digital control system was implemented in a TMS320F28335 microcontroller from Texas Instruments. This work has been supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/2020. Publisher Copyright: © 2022 Elsevier B.V.CuAl8 alloy finds applications in industrial components, where a good anti-corrosion and anti-wearing properties are required. The alloy has a medium strength and a good toughness with an elongation to fracture at room temperature of about 40%. Additionally, it has a good electrical conductivity, though lower than that of pure Al or pure Cu. Despite these characteristics, additive manufacturing of the CuAl8 alloy was not yet reported. In this work, the direct energy deposition-arc (DED-arc) with and without in-situ hot forging was used to determine the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties. No internal defects were seen on the parts produced. Hot forging combined with DED-arc was seen to reduce and homogenize the grain size, improve mechanical strength and isotropy of mechanical properties. Moreover, the use of this novel DED-arc variant was seen to reduce the magnitude of residual stresses throughout the fabricated part. We highlight that this alloy can be processed by DED-arc, and the hot forging operation concomitant with the material deposition has beneficial effects on the microstructure refinement and homogenization.publishersversionpublishe

Publicado em "From particle systems to partial differential equations. Part 2. (Springer proceedings in mathematics & statistics, vol. 75). ISBN 978-3-642-54270-1We study existence of solution of stationary uasivariational inequalities with gradient constraint and nonhomogeneous boundary condition of Neumann or Dirichlet type. Through two different approaches, one making use of a fixed point theorem and the other using a process of regularization and penalization, we obtain different sufficient conditions for the existence of solution.(undefined
