    Multiquark Systems in a Constituent Quark Model with Chiral Dynamics

    We discuss the stability of multiquark systems within the recent model of Glozman et al. where the chromomagnetic hyperfine interaction is replaced by pseudoscalar-meson exchange. We find that such an interaction binds a heavy tetraquark system QQqˉqˉQQ\bar q\bar q (Q=c,bQ=c, b and q=u,d)q=u, d) by 0.2−0.40.2-0.4 GeV.     Within the chiral constituent quark model of Glozman and Riska, we discuss the stability of heavy pentaquarks, i.e. hadrons containing four light quarks and a heavy antiquark. The spin-dependent part of the Hamiltonian is dominated by the short-range part of the Goldstone-boson-exchange interaction. We find that these systems are not bound, having an energy above the lowest dissociation threshold into a baryon and a meson.Comment: 10 pages + table

    Leadership for Development clearly establishes the importance of deepening our understanding of leadership traits, not simply as an academic exercise, but in the interest of promoting future development. The call for an analysis of successful leadership traits across cultures suggests to the reader that the book might succeed where others have failed by outlining a path forward. However forward focusing the motivation to understand leadership traits, the work fails to pave that path and rather remains a patchwork of portraits of leadership; a sampling of possibilities but not a cohesive guide forward. As such, the book offers a useful platform for piquing the interest of students of development, the general public, and the many questions left unanswered after reading the many cases serving as points of future research

    New approach to 4^4He charge distribution

    We present a study of the 4^4He charge distribution based on realistic nucleonic wave functions and incorporation of the nucleon's quark substructure. The central depression of the proton point density seen in modern four-body calculations is too small by itself to lead to a correct description of the charge distribution. We utilize six-quark structures calculated in the Chromodielectric Model for N-N interactions, and we find a swelling of the proton charge distribution as the internucleon distance decreases. These charge distributions are combined with the 4^4He wave function using the Independent Pair Approximation and two-body distributions generated from Green's Function Monte Carlo calculations. We obtain a reasonably good fit to the experimental charge distribution without including meson exchange currents.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, 4 figures (Figures 1 and 2 doesn't exist as postscript files : they are only available on request

    Strengthening Support for Grantees: Four Lessons for Foundations

    As society becomes more interconnected, the problems nonprofits are tasked with addressing require systems work. It is imperative for funders to adapt not only to the challenges faced by the organizations they fund, but also to the dynamic social systems within which they aim to effect change. This requires new approaches that are responsive to community needs and address the known challenges in grantor-grantee relationships. This article offers a new perspective on the role of private foundations and four key lessons for strengthening funder support. These learnings build upon existing research and were gleaned from a qualitative analysis of data from interviews with 33 board members, executives, management, and front-line staff at nonprofit organizations with similar missions that serve vulnerable populations in the same locale, and with subsequently chosen funders that had relationships with those nonprofits. The interconnected challenges facing our communities are demanding more from philanthropy. Funders that build partnerships, recognize and respond to grantee reimbursement models, ease reporting burdens, and leverage their power to convene will make significant contributions to improving the resiliency of those communities
