Acetylcholinesterase activity measurements as a tool for demonstrating the possible cause of fish decay
Differential regulation of the two metallothionein genes in common carp
The expression of two metallothionein (MT) genes was followed in carp (Cyprinus carpio) in vivo during exposure to As and Cu. Changes in the levels of MT-1 and MT-2 mRNA in the liver and kidney were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The inducibility of the two MT isoforms was tissue- and metal-specific. Regardless of whether As or Cu was applied, the liver was more responsive than the kidney. Copper influenced the expression of both isoforms: the MT-1 and MT-2 mRNA levels increased in both the liver and the kidney in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Arsenic affected mostly the MT-2 expression, while the level of the MT-1 transcript did not change significantly in either organ
Effect of pesticides on the LDH activity and isoenzyme pattern of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) sera
Seasonal alterations of Ca-, K-, Na-, and Cl-ions in the haemolymph of Anodonta cygnea L. A simple, rapid determination of Ca- and Cl-ions
Investigating the seasonal alterations of Ca-, K-, Na-, and Cl-ions in
the haemolymph of Anodonta, the following results were obtained:
1. All the examined ions exhibit seasonal changes.
2. The seasonal alterations of Ca- and K-ions are directed oppositely:
the highest concentration of Ca-ions was measured in winter, the lowest in
spring and summer, while in th ecase of K-ions the maximum value can be
determined in the summer months and the minimum in the winter months.
3. The seasonal alterations of Na- and Cl-ions are about the same.
4. The method for determining Ca and Cl can be carried out rapidly and
with ease, therefore, it is suitable to estimate the concentration of Ca- and
Cl-ion in other biological objects, too
The effect of an organophosphorus pesticide on the enzymes of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)
1. The effect of 1.5, 2.0 and 5.0 ppm methidation was studied on the ASAT, ALAT, LDH and AChE enzymes, as well as the blood sugar and adrenaline levels in carp. 2. According to our studies methidation implies a potential hazard on the normal biochemical processes of fishes: causing tissue necrosis indicated by the increase ASAT, ALAT and LDH activities, inducing continual stress effect reflected by the increased blood sugar and adrenaline levels, inhibiting AChE activity in the various organs, the consequence under acute effects being fish kill
