Efficacy of a Workbook to Promote Forgiveness: A Randomized Controlled Trial with University Students
Objective
The present study investigated the efficacy of a 6-hour self-directed workbook adapted from the REACH Forgiveness intervention. Method
Undergraduates (N = 41) were randomly assigned to either an immediate treatment or waitlist control condition. Participants were assessed across 3 time periods using a variety of forgiveness outcome measures. Results
The 6-hour workbook intervention increased forgiveness, as indicated by positive changes in participants’ forgiveness ratings that differed by condition. In addition, benchmarking analysis showed that the self-directed workbook intervention is at least as efficacious as the delivery of the REACH Forgiveness model via group therapy. Conclusion
A self-directed workbook intervention adapted from the REACH Forgiveness intervention provides an adjunct to traditional psychotherapy that could assist the mental health community to manage the burden of unforgiveness among victims of interpersonal harm

Deconvolution with correct sampling
A new method for improving the resolution of astronomical images is
presented. It is based on the principle that sampled data cannot be fully
deconvolved without violating the sampling theorem. Thus, the sampled image
should not be deconvolved by the total Point Spread Function, but by a narrower
function chosen so that the resolution of the deconvolved image is compatible
with the adopted sampling. Our deconvolution method gives results which are, in
at least some cases, superior to those of other commonly used techniques: in
particular, it does not produce ringing around point sources superimposed on a
smooth background. Moreover, it allows to perform accurate astrometry and
photometry of crowded fields. These improvements are a consequence of both the
correct treatment of sampling and the recognition that the most probable
astronomical image is not a flat one. The method is also well adapted to the
optimal combination of different images of the same object, as can be obtained,

Efficacy of REACH Forgiveness across Cultures
Across cultures, most people agree that forgiveness is a virtue. However, culture may influence how willing one should be to forgive and how one might express forgiveness. At a university in the United States, we recruited both foreign-extraction students and domestic students (N = 102) to participate in a six-hour REACH Forgiveness intervention. We investigated the efficacy of the intervention overall as well as whether foreign-extraction and domestic students responded differently to treatment. Forgiveness was assessed using two measures—decisional forgiveness and emotional forgiveness. The six-hour REACH Forgiveness intervention improved participants’ ratings of emotional forgiveness, but not decisional forgiveness, regardless of their culture. Thus, the REACH Forgiveness intervention appears equally efficacious for participants from different cultural backgrounds when conducted in the United States with college students
Examining a Professional Development System: A Comprehensive Needs Assessment Approach
Determination of training and development for personnel in any organization is a challenging task. The task is even more complex when employees have diverse job responsibilities. That is the challenge that faced a team of professionals with Ohio State University (OSU) Extension who designed and implemented a comprehensive training and development needs assessment in autumn 2000. Program personnel perceived a greater need for training in personal and professional development topics than in technical subject-matter topics. OSU Extension is not unique in facing the challenges of designing a professional development system that meets the educational needs of a very diverse population of employees
The Second APM UKST Colour Survey for z>4 Quasars
We present the spectra, positions, and finding charts for 31 bright (R4.5. The majority are in the southern sky (dec 2.5) colours from UK or POSSII Schmidt Plates scanned at the Automated Plate Measuring facility in Cambridge. Low resolution (~> 10A) spectra were obtained to identify the quasars, primarily at the Las Campanas Observatory. The highest redshift quasar in our survey is at z ~ 4.8 (R = 18.7) and its spectrum shows a damped Lyman-alpha absorption system at z = 4.46. This is currently the highest redshift damped Lyman-alpha absorber detected. Five of these quasars exhibit intrinsic broad absorption line features. Combined with the previously published results from the first part of the APM UKST survey we have now surveyed a total of ~8000 squ deg of sky i.e. 40% of the high galactic latitude (|b|>30 deg) sky, resulting in 59 optically selected quasars in the redshift range 3.85 to 4.78; 49 of which have z>=4.00
