    Prioritization of Stakeholders in Diffusion of CAU-R Series Varieties in Manipur

    This study was conducted in order to understand the importance of the identified stakeholders in terms of power and interest in the diffusion of CAU-R series high yielding varieties of Rice among the farmers of Manipur. Three valley districts namely Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur were purposively selected for the study and 85 stakeholders were identified and prioritised according to “degree of power to” and “degree of interest on” in the successful dissemination of improved technology among the farming fraternity. The results of the study witnessed that the Central Agricultural University, Imphal, the Department of Agriculture, Manipur and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare had high power and high interest in all the three districts along with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Imphal East, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Thoubal and the Regional Rice Research Station in Imphal East and Thoubal districts respectively. The farmers and the Farmer collectives were identified with high interest and low power while the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Regional Centre, Manipur and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West remained with neutral power and interest in all the three districts. The Media comprising mainly of the All India Radio, Doordarshan Television and the local newspaper Sangai express has very low interest as well as power in all the three districts. Through these observations we conclude that stakeholders like farmers and farmer cooperatives who are the actual intenders of the technology with considerable level of interest should be involved into the system for effective planning, decision-making and successful functioning of the innovation system

    Parasites are encountered uncommonly in routine histopathologic practice. Among them, cestodes form a major bulk. Cysticercosis heads the list forming the bulk of cases followed by Hydatidosis and Sparganosis. Microscopic identification of inflammation with surrounding reactions along with other morphological features forms the mainstay of diagnosis of parasitic diseases on histopathology. Identification of the parasites on histopathological examination would reduce the cost-diagnosis ratio avoiding expensive serological investigation

Alumni were asked to indicate their reasons for attending UNO, to rate various dimensions of the university, and to rate the importance of their UNO educations to their careers and lives. The questionnaire also gathered information on alumni pride in UNO and about alumni participation in continuing education programs

    Analysis of Postmortem Examination in Exhumed Cases Done in and Around Bangalore, India for 10 Years: A Retrospective Study

    Background: Exhumation is the process of removing the dead body from the grave. The reasons and time limit for exhumation may vary from country to country. After receiving a request from the Magistrate, exhumation followed by postmortem is done to gain essential evidence. To comprehensively analyze the exhumation cases done in Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, and how exhumation followed by postmortem examination aids in finding the cause of death.Methods: All cases of exhumations performed for 10 years (from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2021) in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, were studied retrospectively. The essential data were collected from requisition forms, exhumation, and postmortem reports. The results were obtained after tabulating, and data were analyzed with an observational method.Results: A total of 37 exhumation cases were done during the study period. Young males in the age group of 21 to 30 years were the major population. Out of 37 cases, the cause of death was established in 25 cases (68%).Conclusion: Analysis of postmortem examination in exhumed cases gives much information from a medicolegal point of view to determine the cause and reveal the mysteries behind the manner of death. Hence it is not a vain procedure

    IS ORGANIC TUBER PRODUCTION PROMISING? FOCUS ON IMPLICATIONS, TECHNOLOGIES AND LEARNING SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

    Alternative soil management practices like organic farming assume special significance in the context of global warming and climate change for sustainable and safe food production. Organic farming enables a clean environment by promoting soil quality and sequestering soil organic carbon. Cassava, yams (white yam, greater yam and lesser yam) and edible aroids (elephant foot yam, taro and tannia) are tuberous vegetables with good taste and nutritive value. Seven field experiments were conducted in series at the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, India, over a decade (2004-2013) to compare the varietal response, yield, quality and soil properties under organic farming over conventional system in these crops and to develop a learning system based on the data generated. The industrial as well as domestic varieties of cassava, the elite and local varieties of elephant foot yam and taro and the three species of Dioscorea (yams) were on a par under both systems. However, the industrial variety of cassava yielded more under organic farming than conventional practice. The yield trend over the years as well as pooled analysis indicated the significantly superior performance of organic farming in elephant foot yam. Organic farming produced slightly higher yield in cassava and trailing genotypes of yams. This indicates that elephant foot yam was the most responsive to organic management followed by yams and cassava. Taro and dwarf white yam preferred chemical farming as slight yield reduction (2-5%) was noticed under organic farming with almost similar tuber quality. Thus organic management promoted yield by 8%, 20%, 9%, 11% and 7% over conventional practice in cassava, elephant foot yam, white yam, greater yam and lesser yam respectively. The tuber quality was improved with higher dry matter, starch, crude protein, K, Ca and Mg contents. The anti-nutritional factors, oxalate content in elephant foot yam and cyanogenic glucoside content in cassava were lowered by 21 and 12.4% respectively. Organic plots had significantly higher water holding capacity, pH, available K, Fe, Mn and Cu, higher soil organic matter, available N, P, exchangeable Ca and Mg, dehydrogenase enzyme activity and microbial count. Cost-benefit analysis in elephant foot yam indicated that the net profit was 28% higher and additional income of Rs. 47,716 ha-1 was obtained due to organic farming. The on station technology developed for elephant foot yam was validated and popularized through on farm trials in 10 sites (5 ha) under National Horticulture Mission funded programme. The technology is included in the Package of Practices Recommendations for crops of Kerala Agricultural University. A learning system was developed using artificial neural networks (ANN) to predict the performance of elephant foot yam organic production system. Use of organically produced seed materials, seed treatment in cow-dung, neem cake, bio-inoculant slurry, farmyard manure incubated with bio-inoculants, green manuring, use of neem cake, bio-fertilizers and ash formed the strategies for organic production. Organic farming is an eco-friendly management strategy that enables 10-20% higher yield, quality tubers and maintenance of soil health in tuber crops

    Identifying Knowledge Management Capacity Needs of Rural Advisory Service Networks

    Knowledge management is the creation, coordination, transfer, and integration of knowledge so it is accessible and usable by specific stakeholders. Knowledge management has been shown to facilitate the development of networks, as well as to sustain established networks, based on the appropriate collection and subsequent application of embedded social capital. For rural advisory service (RAS) networks, knowledge management can be an important tool to ensure that both explicit and tacit knowledge is shared amongst network members with the anticipated benefit of increased capacity of the network. Although the importance of knowledge management is well documented within the literature, there are limited guidelines for what specific knowledge management capacities a RAS network should develop. Using the Delphi process, a panel of 31 experts from 24 countries arrived at consensus on 34 specific knowledge management capacities associated with effective RAS networks. The results of the research provide a practical framework for RAS providers and networks to focus knowledge management capacity assessment and capacity-building activities

    Two-Party Threshold Key Agreement Protocol for MANETs using Pairings

    In MANET environment, the nodes are mobile i.e., nodes move in and out dynamically. This causes difficulty in maintaining a central trusted authority say Certification Authority CA or Key Generation Centre KCG. In addition most of cryptographic techniques need a key to be shared between the two communicating entities. So to introduce security in MANET environment, there is a basic need of sharing a key between the two communicating entities without the use of central trusted authority. So we present a decentralized two-party key agreement protocol using pairings and threshold cryptography ideas. Our model is based on Joux2019;s three-party key agreement protocol which does not authenticate the users and hence is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attack.
