Imidazolium Sulfonates as Environmental-Friendly Catalytic Systems for the Synthesis of Biologically Active 2-Amino-4H-chromenes: Mechanistic Insights
Ionic Liquids (ILs) are valuable reaction media extremely useful in industrial sustainable organic synthesis. We describe here the study on the multicomponent reaction (MCR) between salicylaldehyde (2) and ethyl cyanoacetate (3), catalyzed by imidazolium sulfonates, to form chromenes 1, a class of heterocyclic scaffolds exhibiting relevant biological activity. We have clarified the reaction mechanism by combining the experimental results with computational studies. The results reported herein suggest that both the imidazolium core and the sulfonate anions in the selected ILs are involved in the reaction course acting as hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, respectively. Contrarily to the most widely accepted mechanism through initial Knoevenagel condensation, the most favorable reaction pathway consists of an aldolic reaction between reagents followed by heterocyclization, subsequent dehydration, and, finally, the Michael addition of the second molecule of ethyl cyanoacetate (3) to yield the chromenes 1.This work has been supported by MICINN (Projects

Andaluc铆aES
The effect of ultrasound on the N-alkylation of imidazole over alkaline carbons: Kinetic aspects
N-Alkylimidazoles have been synthesized by sonochemical irradiation of imidazole and 1-bromobutane using alkaline-promoted carbons. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal analysis and nitrogen adsorption isotherms. Under the experimental conditions, N-alkylimidazoles can be prepared with a high activity and selectivity. It is observed that imidazole conversion increases in parallel with increasing the basicity of the catalyst. For comparison, the alkylation of imidazole has also been performed in a batch reactor system under thermal activation.

[EN]: Although the chronic presence of microorganisms in the airways of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) confers a poor outcome, no recommendations have been established in disease management guidelines on how to diagnose and treat these cases. In order to guide professionals, the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) has prepared a document which aims to answer questions on the clinical management of COPD patients in whom microorganisms are occasionally or habitually isolated. Since the available scientific evidence is too heterogeneous to use in the creation of a clinical practice guideline, we have drawn up a document based on existing scientific literature and clinical experience, addressing the definition of different clinical situations and their diagnosis and management. The text was drawn up by consensus and approved by a large group of respiratory medicine experts with extensive clinical and scientific experience in the field, and has been endorsed by the SEPAR Scientific Committee.[ES]: A pesar de que es conocido que la presencia cr贸nica de microorganismos en las v铆as a茅reas de pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva cr贸nica (EPOC) en fase de estabilidad conlleva una evoluci贸n desfavorable, ninguna gu铆a de manejo de la enfermedad establece pautas sobre c贸mo diagnosticar y tratar este tipo de casos.
