Dissipation of Hydraulic Energy by Curved Baffle Blocks
Experimental evaluation of the effects of relative size, curvature and location of
curved floor baffle blocks in the dissipation of energy and control of hydraulic
jump is presented. The flow over floor blocks with curved upstream edges (in
plan) was described by a set of dimensionless ratios using dimensional analysis
techniques. The solution was evaluated in the laboratory with respect to
measurable elements of the flow. The results have indicated that, for all flow
conditions, the curved blocks are generally more effective in lowering the
downstream kinetic energy than regular straight edges blocks; thereby, creating
optimum flow conditions having lower capacity for erosion of the downstream
channel bed together with economy in structural requirements
Reduction of seafood processing wastewater using technologies enhanced by swim–bed technology
The increasing growth of the seafood processing industries considerably requires more industrial process activities and water consumption. It is estimated that approximately 10–40 m3 of wastewater is generated from those industries for processing one-tonne of raw materials. Due to limitations and regulations in natural resources utilization, a suitable and systematic wastewater treatment plant is very important to meet rigorous discharge standards. As a result of food waste biodegradability, the biological treatment and some extent of swim-bed technology, including a novel acryl-fibre (biofilm) material might be used effectively to meet the effluent discharge criteria. This chapter aims to develop understanding on current problems and production of the seafood wastewater regarding treatment efficiency and methods of treatment
Monochromatization of femtosecond XUV light pulses with the use of reflection zone plates
We report on a newly built laser based tabletop setup which enables generation of femtosecond light pulses in the XUV range via employing the process of high order harmonic generation HHG in a gas medium. The spatial, spectral, and temporal characteristics of the XUV beam are presented. Monochromatization of XUV light with minimum temporal pulse distortion is the central issue of this work. Off center reflection zone plates are shown to be superior to gratings when selection of a desired harmonic is carried out with the use of a single optical element. A cross correlation technique was applied to characterize the performance of zone plates in the time domain. By using laser pulses of 25 fs length to pump the HHG process, a pulse duration of 45 fs for monochromatized harmonics was achieved in the present setu
Extraction conditions of polyphenol oxidase from banana peel
Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) is an enzyme containing copper, presents in various fruits and vegetables. It is responsible for the browning reactions when the cells are damaged during handling. The best conditions for extraction of polyphenol oxidase from banana peel was by using an extraction buffer containing phosphate buffer (0.05 M, pH 7), 0.01 M ascorbic acid and 0.5% polyethylene glycol, with extraction ratio 1:4 (w:v) for one minute by using blender. The enzyme activity was measured spectrophotometrically at 425 nm. PPO was studied to prevent the browning of banana peel which results in the loss of their marketability. The aim of this study was to determine the optimum conditions for polyphenol oxidase extraction from banana peel
Observation of a new charged charmoniumlike state in B -> J/psi K pi decays
We present the results of an amplitude analysis of anti-B0 -> J/psi K- pi+
decays. A new charged charmoniumlike state Zc(4200)+ decaying to J/psi pi+ is
observed with a significance of 6.2 sigma. The mass and width of the Zc(4200)+
are 4196 +31-29 +17-13 MeV/c^2 and 370 +70-70 +70-132 MeV, respectively; the
preferred assignment of the quantum numbers is J^P = 1^+. In addition, we find
evidence for Zc(4430)+ -> J/psi pi+. The analysis is based on a 711 fb^-1 data
sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider
KEKB.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure

Search for violation in the decay at Belle
We search for violation in the charged charm meson decay
, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB
asymmetric-energy collider. The measured violating asymmetry
is , which is consistent with
the standard model prediction and has a significantly improved precision
compared to previous results.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
