    MBA Professional ReportThe Marine Corps operates a Depot Level Maintenance Program (DLMP) to support the continued operation of principal end items. Principal end items require periodic induction into the DLMP. This maintenance consists of major systems overhauls aimed at extending the life cycle of the principal end item. The frequency of these inductions is different for each end item. The number of systems requiring induction into Depot Level Maintenance in a given year is always greater than the funding available in that year resulting in a constraint. The Marine Corps has attempted to optimize the utility received from the DLMP through the use of a model that takes a number of variables into consideration resulting in a schedule for enditems to be inducted into the DLMP. This model makes the most efficient use of available funding by creating the largest increase in readiness reporting possible given the constrained budget.     The DRAGON recoil mass separator at TRIUMF exists to study radiative proton and alpha capture reactions, which are important in a variety of astrophysical scenarios. DRAGON experiments require a data acquisition system that can be triggered on either reaction product (Îł\gamma ray or heavy ion), with the additional requirement of being able to promptly recognize coincidence events in an online environment. To this end, we have designed and implemented a new data acquisition system for DRAGON which consists of two independently triggered readouts. Events from both systems are recorded with timestamps from a 2020 MHz clock that are used to tag coincidences in the earliest possible stage of the data analysis. Here we report on the design, implementation, and commissioning of the new DRAGON data acquisition system, including the hardware, trigger logic, coincidence reconstruction algorithm, and live time considerations. We also discuss the results of an experiment commissioning the new system, which measured the strength of the Ec.m.=1113E_{\text{c}.\text{m}.} = 1113 keV resonance in the 20^{20}Ne(p,Îł)21\left(p, \gamma \right)^{21}Na radiative proton capture reaction.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in EPJ A "tools for experiment and theory

    Preparedness planning for pandemic influenza among large US maternity hospitals

    The objective of this investigation was to determine the state of pandemic influenza preparedness and to delineate commonly reported challenges among a sample of larger US national maternity hospitals. This was done given the recent emphasis on hospital disaster planning and the disproportionate morbidity and mortality that pregnant women have suffered in previous influenza pandemics. An internet-based survey was sent to all 12 members of the Council of Women's and Infants’ Specialty Hospitals. Questions addressed hospital demographics and overall pandemic preparedness planning, including presence of a pandemic planning committee and the existence of written plans addressing communications, surge capacity, degradation of services, and advance supply planning. Nine of 12 (75%) hospitals responded. All had active pandemic planning committees with identified leadership. The majority (78%) had written formal plans regarding back-up communications, surge/overflow capacity, and degradation of services. However, fewer (44%) reported having written plans in place regarding supply-line/stockpiling of resources. The most common challenges noted were staff and supply coordination, ethical distribution of limited medical resources, and coordination with government agencies. In conclusion, the majority of the Council of Women's and Infants’ Specialty Hospitals maternity hospitals have preliminary infrastructure for pandemic influenza planning, but many challenges exist to optimize maternal and fetal outcomes during the next influenza pandemic
