    A new species of the genus Monokalliapseudes (Crustacea: Tanaidacea: Kalliapseudidae) from French Guiana

    International audienceA new species, Monokalliapseudes guianae, is described from French Guianese estuaries. It is distinguishable from its only congener most notably by lacking an exopodite on pereopod 1 and by the nature of the basal article of the uropod. The inner distal corner of the basal article is only slightly produced and lacks a rounded lobe. The bases of pereopods 2 and 3 lack numerous long setae. Sexual dimorphism is observed in the antennule, cheliped, and pereopod 1. Depending on size, males can exhibit two forms of chelae. A new diagnosis is presented for the genus Monokalliapseudes

    International audienceMalmgrenia louiseae sp. nov. is described from both the Western Mediterranean in the Gulf of Lions, and the Northeast Atlantic from off Portugal and the Bay of Biscay. The species was found in muddy sediments in shallow water and is possibly associated with echiurids or synaptid holothurians. Malmgrenia louiseae sp. nov. can be clearly distinguished from all other known Malmgrenia species by the presence of an infra-acicular process in addition to the supra-acicular process on the acicular lobe of the neuropodia, the lack of microtubercules on the elytra, two kinds of notochaetae (stout with blunt tip and slender with fine pointed tip), and exclusively unidentate neurochaetae. An identification key to the Northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean Malmgrenia species is provided

    International audienceAsthenognathus atlanticus Monod, 1932, has been reported for the first time from the eastern part of the bay ofSeine (eastern english Channel). A total of 30 specimens were collected between the years 2008 and 2011, along thenormandy coast from ouistreham to Antifer, mainly on mud and muddy sand habitats, between 10 and 25 m depth. thedistribution range of A. atlanticus has been previously known to cover eastern Atlantic coasts from Angola to the westernenglish Channel, where it reached its northern limits. it is also present in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea. thechanges in the sediment composition of the eastern bay of Seine have probably led to the development of a potentiallyfavorable habitat for this species. However, the data collected have not yet been sufficient to ascertain the origin, and themethod of introduction of the eastern english Channel specimens. in the discussion, we ponder if they might haveoriginated from the western english Channel populations, and was transported as larvae in the eastern english Channel;they could have originated from a more distant population, and have been brought to the eastern english Channel throughhuman activities. each hypothesis is possible in theory

    Eight invertebrate species, rediscovered, demographically expanding or newly observed are reported from the Pertuis Charentais Sea. They were sampled from intertidal rocky shores (Alpheus macrocheles, Aslia lefevrei, Epitonium clathrulatum and Haliotis tuberculata), intertidal sand flats (Africorchestia spinifera and Arcuatula senhousia) and subtidal bottoms (Aslia lefevrei and Rapana venosa). One species is pelagic (Lepas anatifera). Most of them are within their natural range. However, R. venosa, native to Southeast Asia, has been introduced in the Pertuis Charentais since the 2010s and its populations are currently expanding. The new northern limit of Africorchestia spinifera along the Atlantic coast is defined as the RĂ© Island.     International audienceThe non-native amphipod Grandidierella japonica Stephensen, 1938 is reported for the first time on the Atlantic coast of mainland Europe, specifically from Marennes-Oléron Bay, France. Likely vectors for this introduction include commercial shellfish transplants and ballast waters. A native of Japan, this species had previously only been reported twice outside the Pacific region; in both cases from coastal waters of England. Adults of both sexes, females carrying eggs, and juveniles were collected in Marennes-Oléron Bay, which suggests the species has become established

    Recently, using morphological and molecular analyses, several Pseudopolydora specimens (Polychaeta: Spionidae) from French coastal waters were identified as Pseudopolydora kempi ssp. japonica Imajima and Hartman, 1964. According to the samples examined, P. kempi ssp. japonica has been present in European waters since 2004. Previous misidentifications in France are likely due to its resemblance to the indigenous species Pseudopolydora pulchra (Carazzi, 1893), and to the status of P. kempi ssp. japonica which is still controversial. Material was collected from Arcachon Bay, Morbihan Bay, Aiguillon Bay, and in the Gironde estuary (Bay of Biscay, France). All these areas have extensive shellfish industries, especially the farming of the Japanese oyster Magallana gigas (Thunberg, 1793). The importation of these live oysters from Japan has often included other species including polychaete worms, indicating a major vector of exotic species
