E-Learning In Continuous Professional Development Across The Globe. An experience in Water Engineering

[EN] Based on our wide experience in continuous professional development (CPD) through traditional activities and hands-on experience on several commonly used Learning Management Systems, we have integrated both concepts and developed a simple, yet effective e-learning approach to help professionals in the water field to fill the gap between their sometimes not updated background and the new features that characterize the water field in the present days. We argue that this task can make use of the same approach that is essential to the knowledge discovery process, to which the e-learning process boils down to. In this contribution we present the work performed at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, within the Multidisciplinary Team of Fluid Modelling, on web systems to support technology enhanced learning specifically addressed to professionals in the Water field. Our approach hinges on the joint use of the online as well as the offline characteristics of the e-learning proces s and puts to work together in a synergic way both traditional and technology-based learning know-how. As a result, a number of distance courses have been produced that are used for Engineering CPD across the globe, since many professionals worldwide, mainly from Spanish speaking countries, have followed our courses. We present the evolution of our system and the results obtained from testing and evaluating the prototype during the last three years. We have identified issues significant to users in order to better manage the system and changes required to adapt our system to organizational processes and context. A comparison of feature extractors for panorama stitching in an autonomous car architecture.

Panorama stitching consists on frames being put together to create a 360o view. This technique is proposed for its implementation in autonomous vehicles instead of the use of an external 360o camera, mostly due to its reduced cost and improved aerodynamics. This strategy requires a fast and robust set of features to be extracted from the images obtained by the cameras located around the inside of the car, in order to effectively compute the panoramic view in real time and avoid hazards on the road. In this paper, we compare and discuss three feature extraction methods (i.e. SIFT, BRISK and SURF) for image feature extraction, in order to decide which one is more suitable for a panorama stitching application in an autonomous car architecture. Experimental validation shows that SURF exhibits an improved performance under a variety of image transformations, and thus appears to be the most suitable of these three methods, given its accuracy when comparing features between both images, while maintaining a low time consumption. Furthermore, a comparison of the results obtained with respect to similar work allows to increase the reliability of our methodology and the reach of our conclusions

Desarrollo Web del Grupo FluIng adaptado a los nuevos estándares HTML5 y CSS3

[ES] Con el fin de tener una presencia mayor en su campo de investigación, el Grupo FluIng (FluIng), miembro del Instituto de Matemática Multidisciplinar (IMM) de la Universitat Politècnica de Valencia (UPV), dispone de una página web en la que informa de sus actividades como participación en congresos, publicaciones de artículos, libros, etc., y ofrece sus servicios. Esta página web se escribió hace más de una década, con las tecnologías y estándares de entonces, y, aunque se ha ido manteniendo parte de la información, está en una situación de pérdida de relevancia en la era tecnológica en la que vivimos. El presente TFG afronta el cambio de todo el sitio web con varios objetivos en su punto de mira, todos ellos relacionados entre sí. Por un lado la adaptación a los nuevos estándares web, HTML‐5 y CSS‐3, haciendo uso a su vez de lenguajes como JavaScript y PHP para dotarle de dinamismo e interacción con usuarios. Con estas nuevas tecnologías se va a diseñar y desarrollar una página web que se adapte a cualquier tipo de dispositivo del mercado actual, donde cada vez tienen más relevancia los dispositivos móviles. Se tendrá en consideración el cumplimiento de las normas de accesibilidad con el fin de no excluir a ningún tipo de usuario. Como objetivo final se contempla conseguir un buen posicionamiento en buscadores, lo que se pretende conseguir gracias al cumplimiento de los objetivos ya citados, de gran influencia en los algoritmos de búsqueda en la actualidad, así como a ciertas pautas de diseño que también tienen su peso.Izquierdo Sebastián, FJ. Vending Machines For Personal Hygiene Items - VendiClean

El presente trabajo de investigación consta en un modelo de negocio innovador y viable para el mercado, consiste en implementar máquinas expendedoras de productos de aseo personal para brindarles a los consumidores alternativas al momento de olvidarse sus utensilios; es por ello que los puntos estratégicos de ventas serán las universidades y empresas privadas. Cabe indicar, que el medio de conexión para llegar a los consumidores es a través las redes sociales; asimismo se elaborarán brochures informativos que serán distribuidos en las oficinas corporativas y folletos para las universidades en los distritos ubicados en las zonas 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 y 8 de Lima Metropolitana donde se encuentran los consumidores potenciales y así nace la idea de negocio Vendiclean. La empresa para obtener los ingresos económicos ofrecerá artículos de aseo personal, tales como: Toallas húmedas, cepillos de dientes, pasta dental, hilo dental y desodorante. Esto permitirá que los jóvenes que estudian o trabajan tengan la seguridad que, si olvidan algún producto de aseo, puedan contar con productos de primera necesidad para atender urgencias personales a través de nuestras máquinas expendedoras la cual contará con los productos de aseo necesarios y les facilitará la vida de forma inmediata, debido a que el medio de pago será en efectivo y con POS. Vendiclean ofrecerá a las empresas y universidades contar con un ingreso adicional si se asocian a nuestro servicio con la finalidad de atraer consumidores hacia Vendiclean donde ahorraremos el tiempo de adquisición de compra por parte del consumidor.The present research work consists of an innovative and viable business model for the market, consists of implementing vending machines for personal hygiene products to provide consumers with alternatives when forgetting their utensils; that is why the strategic sales points will be universities and private companies. This will allow young people who study or work have the security that, if they forget to cleaning products, they will count on products of first necessity to attend to personal urgencies through our vending machines which will have the necessary cleaning products and will facilitate them life immediately, because the means of payment will be in cash and with POS.
