Use of Solr and Xapian in the Invenio document repository software
Invenio is a free comprehensive web-based document repository and digital
library software suite originally developed at CERN. It can serve a variety of
use cases from an institutional repository or digital library to a web journal.
In order to fully use full-text documents for efficient search and ranking,
Solr was integrated into Invenio through a generic bridge. Solr indexes
extracted full-texts and most relevant metadata. Consequently, Invenio takes
advantage of Solr's efficient search and word similarity ranking capabilities.
In this paper, we first give an overview of Invenio, its capabilities and
features. We then present our open source Solr integration as well as
scalability challenges that arose for an Invenio-based multi-million record
repository: the CERN Document Server. We also compare our Solr adapter to an
alternative Xapian adapter using the same generic bridge. Both integrations are
distributed with the Invenio package and ready to be used by the institutions
using or adopting Invenio
Role of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies in diagnosis and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis
Antibodies to citrullinated proteins/peptides (ACPAs) are the second serological marker to have recently been included in the 2010 ACR/EULAR Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Classification Criteria, which are focused on early diagnosis and therapy. This review discusses their history and some clinical aspects of ACPAs, focusing on the diagnostic utility of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies as a marker of RA as compared to the widely used rheumatoid factor (RF). Simultaneously, this review aims to raise physician awareness and interest in anti-citrullinated vimentin antibody (anti-Sa/anti-MCV), another member of the ACPA family, which appears to have a better predictive value as a marker of RA than anti-CCP or RF and correlates closely with disease activity and therapeutic response among patients with RA
Serological markers in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis — a clinician’s perspective
The paper summarises the present knowledge of the role of autoantibodies in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. The starting point were the current rheumatoid arthritis classification criteria. The first part presents the diagnostic features of rheumatoid factor and anti-citrullinated protein/peptide antibodies, while the second part provides the answers to the essential clinical questions related to their use. This article, as opposed to more comprehensive papers in the field of immunology, focuses on daily rheumatological practice.

High speed visualization of gasoline pump injector (GPI)
[EN] Two-wheeler engines still use carburetor as a fuelling system in many Asian countries, owing to its low cost and
less maintenance. The usage of carburetor to handle the upcoming stringent emission norms gets difficult, due to
the absence of a closed-loop fuel correction. An electronic fuel injector (EFI), on the other hand, with the help of an
electronic control unit (ECU), can correct the fuel quantity and set the air-fuel mixture close to stoichiometric, based
on the feedback obtained from the oxygen sensor placed in the exhaust pipe. In this context, an innovative injection
system has been developed, that can be applied for such electronic fuel injection in two-wheelers. In this design,
the pump and injector are integrated into a single unit, making the system, simple, compact and less expensive.
The integrated injector uses a solenoid and spring arrangement, for pressurizing the fuel in a small chamber, and
the pressurized fuel is then injected through orifices to produce spray in the intake port. Two-wheeler engines can
operate in the order of 10,000 rpm and it poses a big challenge in such injector designs, and therefore the time
response of the mechanical and magnetic components of the injector become critical. High-speed back-lit imaging
helps in understanding the time response of such injector, by visualizing the spray, while injecting continuously over
a period of time. This paper presents the results of high-speed images, obtained from the spray of this new-concept
gasoline pump injector (GPI). This exercise, demonstrated that this injector can work at a frequency as high as 83
Hz and also consistently. The spray pattern was found to be very unique and different from the conventional PFI
injection sprays.Nallannan, B.; Iwaszkiewicz, T.; Sethuraman, J. (2017). High speed visualization of gasoline pump injector (GPI). Międzynarodowy Komitet Błękitna Tarcza w systemie ochrony dóbr kultury
The aim of the article is to present the functioning of the International Committee on the Blue Shield in the system of protectionof cultural property in the conditions of war and natural disasters. The author has analyzed the problem through the prism of the international legal status of protection of cultural goods and the practical activities of the International Committee of the Blue Shield in the world and in Poland. The protection of cultural property in the context of military threats and natural disasters is an important element of the state’s cultural policy and of the international community’s activities carried out under international law. In spite of over one hundred years of improvement of the law of cultural heritage protection, numerous cultural objects have been destroyed. The ineffectiveness of state protection has contributed to the protection of international NGOs. One of them is the International Board of the Blue Shield, which brings together national committees dedicated to the preparation of the protection of cultural property during conflicts and natural disasters. Non-governmental organizations provide greater opportunities for the protection of cultural goods in a variety of threats.
Increased apoptosis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in patients with perennial allergic asthma/rhinitis: relation to serum markers of apoptosis.
BACKGROUND: The goal of our study was to examine spontaneous and stimulated apoptosis of peripheral blood MNC from allergic patients, sensitized to Der p I antigen as compared to cells from non-atopic subjects. Furthermore we aimed to investigate which populations of mononuclear cells (lymphocytes, monocytes) undergo the apoptosis and to determine relations between apoptosis and serum levels of sFas/APO-1, ICE/caspase-1 or TNF-alpha. METHODS: The study included 17 patients with perennial, allergic asthma and/or allergic rhinitis [6 male and 11 female; mean age 29,5 years; (range 15-49)]. Apoptosis was assessed by fluorescence technique and confirmed by flow-cytometric method and DNA ladder. Serum levels of sFas, ICE/caspase-1 or TNF-alpha were determined by immunoassays (ELISA). RESULTS: Apoptotic index of unfractionated mononuclear cells (MNC) and lymphocytes (but not monocytes) were significantly higher in allergic patients as compared to non-allergic subjects after 48 and 72 hours of culture (p<0.05). Incubation of cells with ConA (10 microg/ml) resulted in a significant increase in the proportion of apoptotic cells in all populations once the apoptotic index for MNC and lymphocytes (but not monocytes) was again significantly higher in allergic as compared to non-allergic subjects after 24, 48 and 72 hour of culture. In allergic patients, mean serum sFas level, was significantly lower then in non-allergic group (mean value 624.8 pg/ml +/- 25.67 versus 802.0 pg/ml +/- 31.91; p = 0.003) and in both groups sFas level correlated inversely with apoptosis of MNC. The mean ICE/caspase-1 concentration was significantly higher in sera of allergic patients as compared to non-allergic group (mean value 27.71 pg/ml +/- 3.79 vs 23.54 pg/ml respectively; p<0.01). ICE/caspase-1 levels in allergic patients correlated with apoptotic index of mononuclear cells (r = 0.57; p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: An increased spontaneous and mitogen-induced apoptosis of MNC from peripheral blood of atopic patients as well as different serum levels of sFas and ICE/caspase-1 correlating with apoptosis, suggest different regulation of apoptotic process in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with allergic asthma and/or rhinitis
Kreisheimatmuseum Demmin
The aim of the article is to try to answer the question of how the fates of the Kreisheimatmuseum Demmin museum resource and the museum institution itself were shaped. The Pomeranian museums ceased to exist in significant numbers after 1945, or their character was changed by the state adopting a different ideological and program perspective. The new border between Poland and Germany, established in 1945, caused a break in cultural identity in Pomerania. The part incorporated into Poland almost completely dissociated itself from the past, for years searching for various evidence justifying Poland’s rights to Pomerania. The western part of Pomerania became part of the German Democratic Republic, and although it remained in German cultural space, it treated the tradition very selectively. Kreisheimatmuseum Demmin is one of the museum facilities operating in historic Pomerania on the German side after 1945. For almost a century, the museum was active in various political conditions. Throughout its whole period of operation (also in adverse conditions), it functioned effectively, expanding the museum’s resource and remaining open to changes. However, despite the implementation of both the statutory and additional tasks of the museum, virtually in its century of existence, it ceased to exist for financial reasons
Bone densitometry by radiofrequency echographic multi-spectrometry (REMS) in the diagnosis of osteoporosis
The paper summarises the present knowledge of the new bone densitometry method called radiofrequency echographic multi-spectrometry (REMS). This ultrasound-based approach enables the evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD) in the hip and the lumbar spine. During REMS densitometry, a fully automatic algorithm performs a series of spectral and statistical analyses involving both echographic images and corresponding “raw” (unfiltered) radiofrequency signals. This provides the identification of the region of interest (ROI) and the calculation of standard densitometric parameters: BMD, T-score and Z-score. Nondiagnostic scans and artifacts are automatically excluded by the algorithm, reducing the risk of false results. A recently published multi-center study has demonstrated high diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of this innovative method in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. To the authors’ best knowledge, this is the first Polish paper on REMS densitometry.
