    The clinical and histopathological characteristics of thyroid gland diseases in adolescents requiring surgical treatment: a ten-year follow-up study

    The present research aimed to determine the clinical and pathohistological characteristics of thyroid gland diseases in adolescents who were previously surgically treated at the Endocrine Surgery Center of the University Medical Center of Serbia from 01/01/2001 to 01/01/2011. The study covered 170 patients of both sexes from the population of adolescents (aged 16 to 20 years) with various malignant and benign thyroid gland diseases. The data for this study were extracted from the medical histories of patients and the electronic database of the Center for Endocrine Surgery. Detailed data analysis included diagnosis, symptomatology, surgical intervention type, and disease stage. The following thyroid status parameters were analyzed from preoperative data: thyroxine (T4), thyroxine free fraction (FT4), triiodothyronine (T3), triiodothyronine free fraction (FT3), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). In addition, the pathohistological features of diagnosed thyroid diseases were also determined, with a special focus on the presence of well-differentiated cancers. Papillary carcinomas were the most common of well-differentiated cancers in adolescents over the ten-year follow-up period. Based on the assessed data, total thyroidectomy was the most commonly used type of surgical intervention in these patients. The conducted research provides essential information related to both the biological characteristics and diagnostics of these cancers and their surgical treatment in such a sensitive population.     Introduction: Burnout syndrome is being increasingly recognized as a factor that affects the health status and is being examined among different professional groups. Consequently, there is a need for a reliable and valid instrument for its examination. Teachers are emerging as a professional group of interest in the area of burnout research, so the aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Serbian version of Copenhagen burnout inventory among teachers at preschool institutions in Serbia. Materials and Methods: This research was conducted as a cross-sectional study between October 2018 and April 2019 on a nationally representative sample of preschool teachers in Serbia. The internal consistency of the scale was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, and the construct validity was examined using exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA). Results: The average score on total burnout was 39.1 ± 17.0, while the average score per scales on the Copenhagen burnout inventory was: 41.3 ± 18.7 for personal burnout, 41.2 ± 15.9 for work-related burnout, and 34.7 ± 22.0 for client-related burnout. The Cronbach’s alpha for the entire scale was 0.936, the Cronbach’s alpha for the personal burnout scale was 0.906, and the Cronbach’s alpha for the work-related burnout scale was 0.765, while the Cronbach’s alpha for the client-related burnout scale was 0.901. The EFA for the CBI showed three factors. The factor loadings varied from 0.575 to 0.859. The three factors explained 67.17% of the variance. Conclusions: Our study showed that the three-factor Serbian version of the Copenhagen burnout inventory can be used for the assessment of burnout syndrome among teachers

    Role of gonadal hormones in programming developmental changes in thymopoietic efficiency and sexual diergism in thymopoiesis

    There is a growing body of evidence indicating the important role of the neonatal steroid milieu in programming sexually diergic changes in thymopoietic efficiency, which in rodents occur around puberty and lead to a substantial phenotypic and functional remodeling of the peripheral T-cell compartment. This in turn leads to an alteration in the susceptibility to infection and various immunologically mediated pathologies. Our laboratory has explored interdependence in the programming and development of the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis and thymus using experimental model of neonatal androgenization. We have outlined critical points in the complex process of T-cell development depending on neonatal androgen imprinting and the peripheral outcome of these changes and have pointed to underlying mechanisms. Our research has particularly contributed to an understanding of the putative role of changes in catecholamine-mediated communications in the thymopoietic alterations in adult neonatally androgenized rats

    The first measurement of the top quark pair (ttˉ\mathrm{t\bar{t}}) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13.6 TeV is presented. Data recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in Summer 2022, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.21 fb1^{-1}, are analyzed. Events are selected with one or two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and additional jets. A maximum likelihood fit is performed in event categories defined by the number and flavors of the leptons, the number of jets, and the number of jets identified as originating from b quarks. An inclusive ttˉ\mathrm{t\bar{t}} production cross section of 882 ±\pm 23 (stat+syst) ±\pm 20 (lumi) pb is measured, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 92137+29^{+29}_{-37} pb

    Measurement of the double-differential inclusive jet cross section in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 5.02 TeV

    International audienceThe inclusive jet cross section is measured as a function of jet transverse momentum pTp_\mathrm{T} and rapidity yy. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at s\sqrt{s} = 5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 pb1^{-1}. The jets are reconstructed with the anti-kTk_\mathrm{T} algorithm using a distance parameter of RR = 0.4, within the rapidity interval y\lvert y\rvert<\lt 2, and across the kinematic range 0.06 <\ltpTp_\mathrm{T}<\lt 1 TeV. The jet cross section is unfolded from detector to particle level using the determined jet response and resolution. The results are compared to predictions of perturbative quantum chromodynamics, calculated at both next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order. The predictions are corrected for nonperturbative effects, and presented for a variety of parton distribution functions and choices of the renormalization/factorization scales and the strong coupling αS\alpha_\mathrm{S}
