Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations of the hydrogen storage capacities of slit-shaped pores, nanotubes and torusenes

Producción CientíficaGrand Canonical Monte Carlo, GCMC, simulations are used to study the gravimetric and volumetric hydrogen storage capacities of different carbon nanopores shapes: Slit-shaped, nanotubes and torusenes at room temperature, 298.15 K, and at pressures between 0.1 and 35 MPa, and for pore diameter or width between 4 and 15 Å. The influence of the pore shape or curvature on the storage capacities as a function of pressure, temperature and pore diameter is investigated and analyzed. A large curvature of the pores means, in general, an increase of the storage capacities of the pores. While torusenes and nanotubes have surfaces with more curvature than the slit-shaped planar pores, their capacities are lower than those of the slit-shaped pores, according to the present GCMC simulations. Torusene, a less studied carbon nanostructure, has two radii or curvatures, but their storage capacities are similar or lower than those of nanotubes, which have only one radius or curvature. The goal is to obtain qualitative and quantitative relationships between the structure of porous materials and the hydrogen storage capacities, in particular or especially the relationship between shape and width of the pores and the hydrogen storage capacities of carbon-based porous materials.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (grant PGC2018-093745-B-I00)Junta de Castilla y León (grant VA124G18

Thermodynamic Study of the Solubility of Naproxen in Some 2-Propanol + Water Mixtures

The equilibrium solubilities of the anti-inflammatory drug naproxen (NPX) in 2-propanol + water mixtures were determined at several temperatures from 298.15 to 313.15 K. The Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy of solution and of mixing were obtained from these solubility data. The solubility was maximal in φ1 = 0.90 and very low in pure water at all the temperatures studied. A non-linear plot of ∆solnH° vs. ∆solnG° with negative slope from pure water up to 0.20 in volume fraction of 2-propanol and positive beyond this composition up pure 2-propanol was obtained at the mean temperature, 305.55 K. Accordingly, the driving mechanism for NPX solubility in the water-rich mixtures was the entropy, probably due to water-structure loss around non-polar moieties of the drug and for the 2-propanol-rich mixtures it was the enthalpy, probably due to its better solvation of the drug

Ecotourism in protected areas in Colombia: a review of environmental impact with emphasis on environmental sustainability standards

Al año 2016, un total de 23 áreas protegidas en Colombia se clasifican como áreas con vocación ecoturística. Este artículo describe las condiciones en que se desarrolla actualmente el ecoturismo y los requerimientos para su ejercicio; expone los diferentes impactos ambientales, socioculturales y económicos generados por actividades ecoturísticas e identifica –bajo el criterio de un grupo de expertos representantes de diferentes entidades relacionadas con el sector turístico y las áreas protegidas– cómo las certificaciones de calidad turística y sostenibilidad ambiental otorgadas por adopción de las NORMAS NTS-TS y el Sistema de Gestión Ambiental bajo la NORMA ISO 14001-2015, en esta industria, tendrían incidencia sobre el ambiente de las áreas protegidas.By 2016 a total of 23 protected areas in Colombia were classified as areas with ecotourism potential. Cuenca del río Las Ceibas, un área importante para las aves migratorias en los Andes Colombianos

This article presents the level of relevance for the migratory birds of seven watersheds or parts of them located m the Colombian Andes, which were tested throueh seven entena that allow establishing, throusb a hierarchical anatysis the pnontization of those areas; this comparative analysis evidenced that according to this order Las Ceibas nver watersheld first as well as the upper Patia valley present the highest munber of migratory species with any sort of interest for preservation, showmg the ecological importance that these areas present globally.Este artículo presenta el nivel de importancia para las aves migratorias de siete cuencas o fracciones de cuencas hidrográficas ubicadas en los andes colombianos y evaluadas mediante siete criterios que permitieron establecer mediante un análisis jerárquico la priorización de estas áreas; este análisis comparativo evidencio que en su respectivo orden la cuenca del rio Las Ceibas junto al valle alto del rio Patía presentan el mayor número de especies migratorias con algún tipo de interés para su conservación, demostrando la importancia ecológica que presentan estas áreas a nivel global
