THE DIFFICULTIES OF FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS IN SOLVING MATHEMATIC FRACTIONS WORD PROBLEMS
Mathematics is often become the frightening subjects for students. Mathematics is considered as something which is difficult to solve. One of the elementary schools mathematics materials which is considered difficult is fractions. Not only students who consider fractions as difficult material but also teachers admit it as well. Teachers feel difficult in teaching fractions to students. Basic concept of fractions which is difficult for the student to grasp, would become even more complex if it is delivered in the form of word problem. In solving word problems students do not only need mathematic skills but also language skills. This research is aimed to analyze students learning difficulties in solving fractions word problem. This research is a qualitative research. The method of analysis used in this research is Newman method. The results of the research show that students faced difficulties in solving fractions word problems because (1) it is difficult for the students to understand the question and to translate it into mathematical sentence, (2) it is difficult for the students to determine the operation used in the word problems, (3) students are not accustomed to, thus they forget to write the conclusion/write the conclusion without the unit in every answers
KEMAMPUAN KONEKSI MATEMATIS SISWA KELAS V DITINJAU DARI FAKTOR GAYA BELAJAR
Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memperoleh gambaran kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa kelas V yang ditinjau dari gaya belajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, penyelesaian yang melibatkan konsep matematis, siswa visual memiliki kemampuan analisis yang baik. Pada penyelesaian yang melibatkan konsep matematika dengan mata pelajaran lain, siswa audio dapat mendengarkan soal cerita dengan baik, namun memiliki kesulitan dalam mengkoneksi pengetahuan matematisnya. Pada penyelesaian masalah yang melibatkan konsep matematika dengan kehidupan sehari-hari, terdapat keunikan, yaitu gambar ilustrasi dari soal dan menghitungnya secara non formal.
The purpose of this study is to obtain a comprehensive description of the mathematical connections of grade V students reviewed from learning style. The determination of the subject in this study used purposive sampling method consisting of grade V students in one of the elementary schools in Banyumas Regency. This study is a qualitative research that uses a phenomenological approach in analyzing the data. The instruments used in this study include mathematical connections questions, learning style questionnaires, interviews, observation of learning activities, and documentation. The results showed that students with visual, audio and kinesthetic learning styles had different abilities in mathematical connections. In the solutions that involve mathematical concepts, visual students had good analytical skills. In the solutions that involve mathematical concepts with other subjects, audio students could listen to the story questions read by the teacher well, but audio students had difficulty in connecting their mathematical knowledge. In solving problems that involve mathematical concepts with everyday life, kinesthetic students were unique in answering questions, namely they used illustrative images of the questions and calculating them manuall
The Effort to Foster Civic Virtue in Elementary Schools
Abstract. This study aims to explore the efforts of civic virtue coaching in elementary schools. The research method used is descriptive qualitative — retrieval of data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model. The subjects of the study were the first-grade students of SD N 4 Darmakradenan, Ajibarang, Banyumas, Indonesia, 2019/2020 academic year. The results showed that the development of Civic Virtue in Elementary Schools at SD N 4 Darmakradenan Ajibrarabang Banyumas was formulated by instilling Civic Virtue concepts on a scale of concept recognition about nationality to foster a sense of love for the motherland. Besides, the findings also confirm that Pancasila Education and Citizenship (PPKn) in Elementary Schools serve as a bridge in the efforts to foster Civic Virtue in Primary Schools 4 N Darmakradenan, Ajibarang, Banyumas. Further research on the opportunity to encourage Civic Virtue in Primary Schools is recommended in a new study in this articleKeywords: Civic Virtue, Elementary School, Coaching.Abstrak.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi usaha pembinaan civic virtue di Sekolah Dasar. Metode penleitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Pengambilan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisi data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa siswi kelas 1 SD N 4 Darmakradenan, Ajibarang, Banyumas,Indonesia,Tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembinaan Civic Virtue di Sekolah Dasar di SD N 4 Darmakradenan Ajibrarabang Banyumas di formulasikan dengan menanamkan konsep-konsep Civic Virtue dalam skala pengenalan konsep tentang kebangsaan sehingga dapat menumbuhkan rasa cinta tanah air. Selain itu, hasil temuan juga menegaskan bahwa Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaan (PPKn) di Sekolah Dasar menjadi jembatan dalam upaya pembinaan Civic Virtue di Sekolah Dasar SD N 4 Darmakradenan, Ajibarang, Banyumas. Penelitian lebih lanjut tentang peluang pembinaan Civic Virtue di Sekolah Dasar di anjurkan dalam penelitian selanjutnya dalam artikel ini.Kata Kunci: civic virtue, sekolah dasar, pembinaan
