The rats were widely diverse around the world. The identification of rat were difficult since most rats share common morphology characteristics. Thus, the identification through genetic material might help to identify the rat more accurately since the rat species were difficult to identify through the morphology characteristic. The aim of this study was to identify the unknown caught rats using phylogeny-based identification and further compared rat identification through morphological characteristics. Five rats’ samples were obtained from five different areas and the morphological characteristics of each sample were recorded to identify their species. The five rats’ tails were taken for DNA extractions by using high-salt method. The extracted DNA were amplified and sequenced for cytochrome oxidase 1 region. A total of 745 base pair were successfully sequenced for all samples and were aligned with 77 sequences retrieve from GenBank. Three phylogenetic trees were reconstructed Neighbor-Joining, Bayesian inferences and maximum likelihood method. Based on the morphological characteristics, the five samples were most likely identified as Rattus norgevicus for Rat 1, Rat 2 as Rattus tiomanicus, Rat 3 as Rattus andamanensis, Raat 4 as Rattus norvegicus and Rat 5 as Rattus exulans. However, further identification through phylogeny-based identification from the three phylogenetic tree shows that Rat 1 highly probably identified as Rattus norvegius, while Rat 2, Rat 3, Rat 4 and Rat 5 as Rattus kandianus and/or Rattus andamanensis

December 2019 marked the emergence of a deadly virus known as Covid-19. Since then, we have been battling the virus, which has infected more than 250 million people and killed 4.5 million globally. The pandemic has become the headline of almost every media outlet, local and international news agency. Hence, this article aims to examine the Arabic online news discourse of the event by focusing on the verbal processes strategically utilised in reporting the pandemic in Malaysia. This study's data consists of Modern Standard Arabic online news published by Aswaq (aswaqpress.com) news portal between January and July 2021. Aswaq provides Arabic news and information on Malaysia to the Arab world. Hence, the information provided by the portal is vital in portraying Malaysia to Arab audiences, particularly in framing the way Malaysia deals with the Covid-19. The study employs corpus linguistics analytical tools using corpus software AntConc 3.5.8 (2019). Then, the quantitative result will be analysed using a qualitative approach based on the textual-oriented Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Fairclough (1992). It is shown that Aswaq has strategically utilised various verbal processes to report on the word said and articulated around the pandemic. The diversity of verbal processes usage indicates different connotations that hint at different strategic approaches in reporting the news. Hence, it may lead to uncovering the outlet stance of the event. Finally, the study will present suggestions for other related studies in the future

    Get PDF
This project describes the design and development of a camera vision with color detection for the variable rate technology (VRT) automated sprayer. In this project, the smart sprayer system was already developed and mounted on the ATV. The automated sprayer system was developed by combination of the electromechanical system, PC parallel port relay board, the controller and visual basic programming software. This smart sprayer system is guided with the camera to detect the presence of weeds. Detection of weeds is based on the green color value from RGB value. The amount or percentage (%) of weeds detected determines the rate of spraying that is controlled by an electric motor and the relay board. In this project, the spray nozzles were modified to be fully open, fully closed and half open. The closing and opening of valves were controlled by the electromechanical system that receives the instruction from the camera vision. Experiments carried out shows that the nozzle is closed when the percentage of weeds detected is less than 2%. It is half open at 3% to 50% and fully open at more than 51%. The application rate of spraying can be determined from the result of the spraying operation

Foreign direct investment and economic growth: the role of democracy

    Get PDF
This study investigates the growth-effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 67 developing countries covering from 1984 to 2016, with a special emphasis on the role of democracy. The empirical results obtained from generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation demonstrate that democracy plays a crucial role in moderating the positive effect of FDI on output growth. The results are robust to several alternative measures of democracy and FDI. This suggests that the marginal effect of FDI on growth depends on the level of democracy such that countries which promote democratic institution benefit more from FDI inflows. The finding is consistent with the growing view that the growth-effect of FDI depends on other intervening factors in the host countries

    Get PDF
Among the practices of System of Rice intensification is the intensive mechanical weeding need at 10 to 12 days intervals up to 40 days after transplanting (DAT) or canopy closure. This practice aerates the soil, adds biomass and increase yield. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of levels of mechanical weeding using four different locally fabricated rotary weeders on the yield and vegetative components of rice under the System of Rice Intensification at Tanjung Karang Irrigation Scheme of Malaysia. Results indicated that mechanical wedding levels had a significant effect on vegetative paddy height at P (0.05) level with 60.05 cm as the highest average vegetative height obtained at three levels of rotavation (mechanical weeding) using treatment D. The analysis of variance of the yield from the treatments indicates a significant difference in yield with increase in the levels of mechanical weeding with 13.1 tons/Ha being the highest obtained from treatment D (three levels of rotavation) at 30DAT. The lack of machine ground clearance hindered weeding up to canopy closure or 40 DAT
