Polemic treatises “Obrona jednosci cerkiewnej” (1617) by Fr. Leon Kreuza and “Palinodia” (1620-1622) by Fr. Zacharias Kopystenski are treated in this article as a kind of dialogue between western and eastern Christian cultures, provoked by their authors’ search for historical foundations of their religious identity. The author of the essay singles out the main features of “Sarmatian” piety, arguing that this chronological line adds extensionality to literary texts. The place of church is defined in accordance with its concern for holiness experienced by real persons. The author states that the polemic discourse reflects the search for harmony alternating between everlasting and historically transitive elements of the local church tradition as an   ncarnation of the grace-giving action of the Holy Spirit in the human community which has its own ethnical and cultural specifics.У статті аналізуються полемічні трактати о. Лева Кревзи “Obrona jednosci cerkiewnej” (1617) і о. Захарії Копистенського “Палінодія” (1620-1622) як феномен діалогу західної та східної християнських культур, мотивованого пошуком історичних засад власної релігійної ідентичності. Виявляються риси “сарматської” релігійності. Хронологічна лінія надає об’ємності літературному просторові тексту. Місце церкви визначається в перспективі плекання досвіду святості, утіленої в конкретних персонажах. Дискурс відображає пошук гармонії між непроминущим та історично перехідним у помісній традиції як конкретному втіленні благодатної дії Святого Духа в етнічно й культурно визначеній людській спільноті

The paper summarizes the contribution of Basilian monks to the literary life in Ukraine of the Baroque era. The author concentrates on the works of archbishops Josaphat Kuncewicz and Leon Kreuza as well as on those of bishop Jakob Susza. Much attention is given to Pochaiv monastery with its printing works which became the centre of publishing and cultural activities in the 18th century Ukraine. The pivotal point of publishing activities in Pochaiv is considered to be marked with two editions, namely “Narodovishchaniye” (a collection of sermons) and “Bohohlasnyk” (a collection of Ukrainian religious songs). In order to describe this state of matters, the author introduces the term “Basilian Baroque” and outlines its principal parameters.У статті автор аналізує внесок монахів-василіан у літературне життя України доби бароко. Розглянуто творчість архієпископів Йосафата Кунцевича та Лева Кревзи, єпископа Якова Суші. Окрему увагу приділено діяльності Почаївського монастиря з його друкарнею, що став головним видавничим і  культуротворчим осередком XVIII ст. Відзначається чільне місце серед почаївських видань “Народовіщанія” та “Богогласника”. Автор використовує термін “василіанське бароко” й намагається окреслити його параметри

Diffusion in Cytoplasm: Effects of Excluded Volume Due to Internal Membranes and Cytoskeletal Structures

The intricate geometry of cytoskeletal networks and internal membranes causes the space available for diffusion in cytoplasm to be convoluted, thereby affecting macromolecule diffusivity. We present a first systematic computational study of this effect by approximating intracellular structures as mixtures of random overlapping obstacles of various shapes. Effective diffusion coefficients are computed using a fast homogenization technique. It is found that a simple two-parameter power law provides a remarkably accurate description of effective diffusion over the entire range of volume fractions and for any given composition of structures. This universality allows for fast computation of diffusion coefficients, once the obstacle shapes and volume fractions are specified. We demonstrate that the excluded volume effect alone can account for a four-to-sixfold reduction in diffusive transport in cells, relative to diffusion in vitro. The study lays the foundation for an accurate coarse-grain formulation that would account for cytoplasm heterogeneity on a micron scale and binding of tracers to intracellular structures
