    Role of manual activities among cerebral Palsy children

    Objective: Determine the role of manual activities in children presenting with spastic type of Cerebral Palsy. Methods: AQuasi experimental study was conducted in Children Hospital and Compass. A sample of 30 children with cerebral palsy aged between 6 to 12 years was studied and assessment was made before and after the implementation of treatment through ABILHAND kids Questionnaire. The duration of this study was 6 months from December 2014 to May 2015. The recruiting strategy used was convenience sampling. Intervention was given for a period of 90 hours for 9 weeks. Qualitative variables were expressed as proportions (percentages). Before and after comparisons were made using non.parametric Wilcoxon signed rank test since the data was obtained as scores. A p-value less than 0.05 were taken as significant. Results: Bimanual Therapy had significant effect on manual abilities of a child presenting with spastic type of cerebral palsy. The P value was calculated as 0.000 which was less than 0.05. Conclusion: HABIT appears to be effective in improving the manual ability of spastic cerebral palsy children

    Association of burnout with doctor–patient relationship and common stressors among postgraduate trainees and house officers in Lahore—a cross-sectional study

    Introduction Burnout is defined as a prolonged state of physical and psychological exhaustion. Doctors, due to the demanding nature of their job, are susceptible to facing burnout, which has far reaching implications on their productivity and motivation. It affects the quality of care they provide to patients, thus eroding the doctor–patient relationship which embodies patient centeredness and autonomy. The study aims at addressing the stressors leading to burnout and its effect on the doctor–patient relationship. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional study design with convenience (non-probability) sampling technique was employed in six major hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan. A total of 600 doctors were approached for the study which included house officers or “HOs” (recent graduates doing their 1 year long internship) and post-graduate trainees or “PGRs” (residents for 4–5 years in their specialties). Burnout was measured using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventor (CBI) while attitudes towards the doctor–patient relationship was measured using the Patient Practitioner Orientation Scale (PPOS), which measures two components of the relationship: power sharing and patient caring. Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data via SPSS v.21. Results A total of 515 doctors consented to take part in the study (response rate 85.83%). The final sample consisted of 487 doctors. The burnout score was not associated with the total and caring domain scores of PPOS (P > 0.05). However, it was associated with the power sharing sub-scale of PPOS. Multiple linear regression analysis yielded a significant model, by virtue of which CBI scores were positively associated with factors such as female gender, feeling of burn out, scoring high on sharing domain of PPOS and a lack of personal control while CBI scores were negatively associated with private medical college education, having a significant other, accommodation away from home and a sense of never ending competition. Burnout levels varied significantly between house officers and post graduate trainees. Twenty-three percent of the participants (mostly house officers) had high/very high burnout levels on the CBI (Kristenson’s burnout scoring). Both groups showed significant differences with respect to working hours, smoking status and income. Conclusion Although burnout showed no significant association with total and caring domain scores of PPOS (scale used to assess doctor–patient relationship), it showed a significant association with the power sharing domain of PPOS suggesting some impact on the overall delivery of patient care. Thus, it necessitates the monitoring of stressors in order to provide an atmosphere where patient autonomy can be practiced

    Graphene-Based Derivatives Heterostructured Catalytic Systems for Sustainable Hydrogen Energy via Overall Water Splitting

    The global climate crisis has cultivated the demand for sustainable energy resources as fossil derivative fuels are functional in catalyzing the rate of environmental breakdown. Sustainable energy solutions generate various renewable energy prospects capable of delivering efficient energy operations. Among these prospects, green H2 energy generated via overall water splitting is an effective approach towards sustainability ascribed to the higher gravimetric density and efficiency of H2 fuel. In this review, we sought to discuss the applicability and challenges of graphene-based derivatives in H2 evolution operations through photochemical, electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water-splitting pathways. The unique layered structure of graphene-based derivatives alongside marvelous optoelectronic and physicochemical properties ease out the thermodynamic uphill of water splitting better than their non-layered counterparts. In addition, the heterojunction formation in the graphene derivatives with visible light catalysts propels the kinetics of HER. Functionalized GO and rGO derivatives of graphene are riveting catalysts that have received extensive interest from researchers attributed to their accelerated chemical and mechanical stability, tunable band structure and larger surface area, providing more exposed active sites for HER. The surface organic functional groups of GO/rGO assist in establishing synergetic interfacial contact with other catalysts. Thus, these groups provide structural and chemical versatility to GO/rGO-based heterostructured catalysts, which effectively improve their physicochemical parameters that drive their catalytic performance towards HER. In order to develop a cost-effective and highly efficient catalytic system, graphene-based derivatives are promising heterostructured catalysts that exhibit a good relationship between catalytic efficiency and robustness

    Bismuth-Based Multi-Component Heterostructured Nanocatalysts for Hydrogen Generation

    Developing a unique catalytic system with enhanced activity is the topmost priority in the science of H2 energy to reduce costs in large-scale applications, such as automobiles and domestic sectors. Researchers are striving to design an effective catalytic system capable of significantly accelerating H2 production efficiency through green pathways, such as photochemical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical routes. Bi-based nanocatalysts are relatively cost-effective and environmentally benign materials which possess advanced optoelectronic properties. However, these nanocatalysts suffer back recombination reactions during photochemical and photoelectrochemical operations which impede their catalytic efficiency. However, heterojunction formation allows the separation of electron–hole pairs to avoid recombination via interfacial charge transfer. Thus, synergetic effects between the Bi-based heterostructured nanocatalysts largely improves the course of H2 generation. Here, we propose the systematic review of Bi-based heterostructured nanocatalysts, highlighting an in-depth discussion of various exceptional heterostructures, such as TiO2/BiWO6, BiWO6/Bi2S3, Bi2WO6/BiVO4, Bi2O3/Bi2WO6, ZnIn2S4/BiVO4, Bi2O3/Bi2MoO6, etc. The reviewed heterostructures exhibit excellent H2 evolution efficiency, ascribed to their higher stability, more exposed active sites, controlled morphology, and remarkable band-gap tunability. We adopted a slightly different approach for reviewing Bi-based heterostructures, compiling them according to their applicability in H2 energy and discussing challenges, prospects, and guidance to develop better and more efficient nanocatalytic systems

    Effects of dry needling in lower extremity myofascial trigger points: systematic review

    Objective: This systematic review was conducted to explore the current evidences on effects of trigger point dry needling as a treatment strategy on pain and range of motion among the subjects with lower extremity myofascial trigger areas. Methods: A systematic review was performed and searched databases including Cochrane Library, PubMed, SPORTDiscus and PEDro. PRISMA guidelines were followed. Inclusion and exclusion of studies were made according to PICOS format. Ten studies were recruited for assessment based on eligibility. Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was used to assess the Randomized and Non-Randomized controlled trials and the methodological assessment was also performed using PEDro 10-point scale. Data synthesis was performed by Vote Counting Method as a descriptive tool. Results: Seven of the total ten studies deemed High score on PEDro and three were scored Fair on the scale. Each of the ten studies documented improvement in the pain over time with the dry needling strategy. None of the studies targeted the other outcomes like anxiety and sleep disturbances related with myofascial trigger points. Conclusion: On basis of the best evidences available dry needling seems to be effective in pain reduction related to lower extremity myofascial trigger points. Evidence also suggests that there is not much positive effect of myofascial trigger point dry needling on depression, anxiety, muscular strength and quality of life.     Where are female editors from low-income and middle-income countries? A comprehensive assessment of gender, geographical distribution and country's income group of editorial boards of top-ranked rehabilitation and sports science journals

    Objective We aimed to examine the gender, geographical region and income group of the country of affiliation for editorial leadership (eg, editor-in-chief, section editor, associate editor) and advisors (eg, editorial board members) in top-ranked rehabilitation and sports science journals. Methods A list of Scopus indexed, Q1 (25% top) rehabilitation and sports science journals, available under four different journal categories, was prepared based on the data from the Scientific Journal Rankings (SJR) website. The information for editorial leadership and advisors for these journals was obtained and their gender was determined through a multistep process. The country of affiliation of editorial leadership and advisors was used to categorise them to World Bank's different geographical regions and income groups (for countries). Results There were 7248 editors (35.7% leadership and 64.3% advisors) across 113 rehabilitation and sports science journals. Of all editors, 1792 (24.7%) were women. Women represented 24.5% of editorial leadership positions, 24.8% of advisory roles and 10.4% of editors-in-chief. Editors from South Asia (0.5%) and sub-Saharan Africa (0.6%) had the least representation, while those affiliated with institutions from high-income countries represented 93.5% of leadership roles and 93.1% of advisory positions. Moreover, editors affiliated with institutions from North America occupied almost half of all editorial roles. Conclusions Women and researchers affiliated with institutions from low-income and middle-income countries are under-represented on the editorial boards of top-ranked rehabilitation and sports science journals indexed in the Scopus database. Editors are responsible for promoting research in their specific field, and therefore, the current leadership in rehabilitation and sports science journals should consider diversifying their editorial boards by providing equitable opportunities to women and researchers from a broader geographical distribution

    Role of tele-rehabilitation in patients following total hip replacement: systematic review of clinical trials

    Objective: Rehabilitation is considered vital aspect of treatment strategy post total hip replacement and results in improvement in functional activities as well as reduction in pain. Telerehabilitation is emerging as alternative to traditional face to face rehabilitation in home care. To explore the current evidence on effectiveness of telerehabilitation as compared to face to face rehabilitation for patients after total hip replacement. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted. Data bases were searched including Cochrane, Medline, Embase and PEDro from 2000 to latest. A thorough search was performed to retrieve articles missed through databases as well as unpublished grey literature. Methodological quality assessment was performed using Cochrane risk of bias tool and included studies were critically appraised using PEDro scale. Results: 13 articles finally met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review based on eligibility.  However data was not extractable from 1 study due to which 12 studies were finally reviewed. There were 4 Randomized trials, 3 randomized controlled protocols, 3 randomized pilot studies and 1 prospective cohort study. The summary of critical appraisal of included studies through Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale was done which showed that majority of studies had high quality and few studies fall under the category of fair. Conclusion: Telerehabilitation group reported similar improvement in terms of activities of daily living and quality of life as compared to traditional rehabilitation.
