    Clinical Characteristics of Hyponatremia

    Get PDF
Background & aims : We investigated the contributing factors of hyponatremia in patients on nutrition support using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Methods : Thirty patients administered enteral or parenteral nutrition support for at least 72 hours were studied. We collected nutritional and electrolyte intake, serum biochemical parameters, and body composition measured by BIA. Patients were classified into two groups according to their serum sodium levels : (1) Normanatremia group, 135–145 mEq / L (n = 18) and (2) Hyponatremia group, less than 135 mEq / L (n = 12), and their characteristics were analyzed. Results : There were no significant differences between the Normonatremia and Hyponatremia groups in terms of energy, protein, and sodium intake. Serum biochemical parameters other than serum sodium and chloride levels were comparable between the two groups. On the other hand, the ratio of extracellular water to total body water (ECW / TBW) obtained by BIA was significantly higher in the Hyponatremia group than in the Normonatremia group. Further, an elevated ECW / TBW significantly and negatively correlated with serum albumin level. Conclusions : Regardless of sodium intake, higher ECW / TBW was associated with hyponatremia in patients on nutrition support. ECW / TBW may be an important clinical parameter relevant to the nutritional care of hyponatremia

In this paper, cooperation of an institutional repository system (hereafter, IR) and the Kyushu University Researcher Information System (hereafter, RI), which is an external system which publishes researcher\u27s information within the institution, is introduced based on literature [1, 2], and the present operation result is described. RI has the common data with IR for literature information, and the data is rich where the rate of input is 99%. The increase of a user of RI can be expected by cooperating so that a user can both use IR and IR unconsciously. However, there are problems: (1) a literature information on both does not exactly match, (2) we should minimize the increase of the time and the labor of users or an administrator, (3) the change to the both existing systems should be minimum, and (4)researcher\u27s intention should be reflected as much as possible. For the problems, we took an approach of not relying only on a static link, but the dynamic one by a searching scheme, resulting in minimizing the database for linking, which only manages the links intended by researchers. DRF International Conference 2008 Open Access and Institutional Repository in Asia-Pacific (DRFIC 2008), 30th and 31st January, Osaka, JAPAN / デジタルリポジトリ連合国際会議2008 アジア・環太平洋地域におけるオープンアクセスと機関リポジトリ(DRFIC 2008), 平成20年1月30‐31日, 大阪大学 Poster Session No.5-Abstract / ポスターセッション No.5-予稿集抄

Conditional Expectations for Unbounded Operator Algebras

    Get PDF
Two conditional expectations in unbounded operator algebras (O∗-algebras) are discussed. One is a vector conditional expectation defined by a linear map of an O∗-algebra into the Hilbert space on which the O∗-algebra acts. This has the usual properties of conditional expectations. This was defined by Gudder and Hudson. Another is an unbounded conditional expectation which is a positive linear map ℰ of an O∗-algebra ℳ onto a given O∗-subalgebra of ℳ. Here the domain D(ℰ) of ℰ does not equal to ℳ in general, and so such a conditional expectation is called unbounded

Synthesis and characterization of 2′-modified-4′-thioRNA: a comprehensive comparison of nuclease stability

    Get PDF
We report herein the synthesis and physical and physiological characterization of fully modified 2′-modified-4′-thioRNAs, i.e. 2′-fluoro-4′-thioRNA (F-SRNA) and 2′-O-Me-4′-thioRNA (Me-SRNA), which can be considered as a hybrid chemical modification based on 2′-modified oligonucleotides (ONs) and 4′-thioRNA (SRNA). In its hybridization with a complementary RNA, F-SRNA (15mer) showed the highest Tm value (+16°C relative to the natural RNA duplex). In addition, both F-SRNA and Me-SRNA preferred RNA as a complementary partner rather than DNA in duplex formation. The results of a comprehensive comparison of nuclease stability of single-stranded F-SRNA and Me-SRNA along with 2′-fluoroRNA (FRNA), 2′-O-MeRNA (MeRNA), SRNA, and natural RNA and DNA, revealed that Me-SRNA had the highest stability with t1/2 values of > 24 h against S1 nuclease (an endonuclease) and 79.2 min against SVPD (a 3′-exonuclease). Moreover, the stability of Me-SRNA was significantly improved in 50% human plasma (t1/2 = 1631 min) compared with FRNA (t1/2 = 53.2 min) and MeRNA (t1/2 = 187 min), whose modifications are currently used as components of therapeutic aptamers. The results presented in this article will, it is hoped, contribute to the development of 2′-modified-4′-thioRNAs, especially Me-SRNA, as a new RNA molecule for therapeutic applications
