Redshifts in the Southern Abell Redshift Survey Clusters. I. The Data
The Southern Abell Redshift Survey contains 39 clusters of galaxies with
redshifts in the range 0.0 < z < 0.31 and a median redshift depth of z =
0.0845. SARS covers the region 0 21h (while
avoiding the LMC and SMC) with b > 40. Cluster locations were chosen from the
Abell and Abell-Corwin-Olowin catalogs while galaxy positions were selected
from the Automatic Plate Measuring Facility galaxy catalog with
extinction-corrected magnitudes in the range 15 <= b_j < 19. SARS utilized the
Las Campanas 2.5 m duPont telescope, observing either 65 or 128 objects
concurrently over a 1.5 sq deg field. New redshifts for 3440 galaxies are

Multiaperture Photometry of Galaxies in the Coma Cluster
We present a set of photometry for 745 band selected
objects in a region centered on the core of the Coma
cluster. This includes 516 galaxies and is at least 80% complete to H=16, with
a spectroscopically complete sample of 111 cluster members (nearly all with
morphological classification) for . For each object we present total
\cite{kron80} magnitudes and aperture photometry. As an example, we use these
data to derive color-magnitude relations for Coma early-type galaxies, measure
the intrinsic scatter of these relations and its dependence on galaxy mass, and
address the issue of color gradients. We find that the color gradients are mild
and that the intrinsic scatter about the color-magnitude relation is small
( mag in and less than in , or ).
There is no evidence that the intrinsic scatter varies with galaxy luminosity,
suggesting that the cluster red sequence is established at early epochs over a

ACS Observations of a Strongly Lensed Arc in a Field Elliptical
We report the discovery of a strongly lensed arc system around a field
elliptical galaxy in Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys
(ACS) images of a parallel field observed during NICMOS observations of the HST
Ultra-Deep Field. The ACS parallel data comprise deep imaging in the F435W,
F606W, F775W, and F850LP bandpasses. The main arc is at a radius of 1.6 arcsec
from the galaxy center and subtends about 120 deg. Spectroscopic follow-up at
Magellan Observatory yields a redshift z=0.6174 for the lensing galaxy, and we
photometrically estimate z_phot = 2.4\pm0.3 for the arc. We also identify a
likely counter-arc at a radius of 0.6 arcsec, which shows structure similar to
that seen in the main arc. We model this system and find a good fit to an
elliptical isothermal potential of velocity dispersion
\kms, the value expected from the fundamental plane, and some external shear.
Several other galaxies in the field have colors similar to the lensing galaxy

Phase transition close to room temperature in BiFeO3 thin films
BiFeO3 (BFO) multiferroic oxide has a complex phase diagram that can be
mapped by appropriately substrate-induced strain in epitaxial films. By using
Raman spectroscopy, we conclusively show that films of the so-called
supertetragonal T-BFO phase, stabilized under compressive strain, displays a
reversible temperature-induced phase transition at about 100\circ, thus close

The Angular Clustering of Galaxy Pairs
We identify close pairs of galaxies from 278 deg^2 of Sloan Digital Sky
Survey commissioning imaging data. The pairs are drawn from a sample of 330,041
galaxies with 18 < r^* < 20. We determine the angular correlation function of
galaxy pairs, and find it to be stronger than the correlation function of
single galaxies by a factor of 2.9 +/- 0.4. The two correlation functions have
the same logarithmic slope of 0.77. We invert Limber's equation to estimate the
three-dimensional correlation functions; we find clustering lengths of r_0= 4.2
+/- 0.4 h^{-1} Mpc for galaxies and 7.8 +/- 0.7 h^{-1} Mpc for galaxy pairs.
These results agree well with the global richness dependence of the correlation

Emission Line Galaxies in the STIS Parallel Survey I: Observations and Data Analysis
In the first three years of operation STIS obtained slitless spectra of
approximately 2500 fields in parallel to prime HST observations as part of the
STIS Parallel Survey (SPS). The archive contains almost 300 fields at high
galactic latitude (|b|>30) with spectroscopic exposure times greater than 3000
seconds. This sample contains 220 fields (excluding special regions and
requiring a consistent grating angle) observed between 6 June 1997 and 21
September 2000, with a total survey area of about 160 square arcminutes. At
this depth, the SPS detects an average of one emission line galaxy per three
fields. We present the analysis of these data, and the identification of 131
low to intermediate redshift galaxies detected by optical emission lines. The
sample contains 78 objects with emission lines that we infer to be redshifted
[OII]3727 emission at 0.43<z<1.7. The comoving number density of these objects
is comparable to that of H-alpha emitting galaxies in the NICMOS parallel
observations. One quasar and three probable Seyfert galaxies are detected. Many
of the emission-line objects show morphologies suggestive of mergers or

A report on a survey among Portuguese Association of Interventional Cardiology associates regarding ionizing radiation protection practices in national interventional cath-labs
Introduction and objectives: Concerns surrounding the consequences of ionizing radiation (IR) have increased in interventional cardiology (IC). Despite this, the ever-growing complexity of diseases as well as procedures can lead to greater exposure to radiation. The aim of this survey, led by Portuguese Association of Interventional Cardiology (APIC), was to evaluate the level of awareness and current practices on IR protection among its members.
Methods: An online survey was emailed to all APIC members, between August and November 2021. The questionnaire consisted of 50 questions focusing on knowledge and measures of IR protection in the catheterization laboratory. Results were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: From a response rate of 46.9%, the study obtained a total sample of 159 responses (156 selected for analysis). Most survey respondents (66.0%) were unaware of the radiation exposure category, and only 60.4% reported systematically using a dosimeter. A large majority (90.4%) employed techniques to minimize exposure to radiation. All participants used personal protective equipment, despite eyewear protection only being used frequently by 49.2% of main operators. Ceiling suspended shields and table protectors were often used. Only two-thirds were familiar with the legally established limit on radiation doses for workers or the dose that should trigger patient follow-up. Most of the survey respondents had a non-certified training in IR procedures and only 32.0% had attended their yearly occupational health consultation.
Conclusions: Safety methods and protective equipment are largely adopted among interventional cardiologists, who have shown some IR awareness. Despite this, there is room for improvement, especially concerning the use of eyewear protection, monitoring, and certification.

Galaxy populations in the Antlia cluster. I. Photometric properties of early-type galaxies
We present the first colour-magnitude relation (CMR) of early-type galaxies
in the central region of the Antlia cluster, obtained from CCD wide-field
photometry in the Washington photometric system. Integrated (C -T1) colours, T1
magnitudes, and effective radii have been measured for 93 galaxies (i.e. the
largest galaxies sample in the Washington system till now) from the FS90
catalogue (Ferguson & Sandage 1990). Membership of 37 objects can be confirmed
through new radial velocities and data collected from the literature. The
resulting colour-magnitude diagram shows that early-type FS90 galaxies that are
spectroscopically confirmed Antlia members or that were considered as definite
members by FS90, follow a well defined CMR (sigma_(C -T1) ~ 0.07 mag) that
spans 9 magnitudes in brightness with no apparent change of slope. This
relation is very tight for the whole magnitude range but S0 galaxies show a
larger dispersion, apparently due to a separation of ellipticals and S0s.
Antlia displays a slope of -13.6 in a T1 vs. (C -T1) diagram, in agreement with
results for clusters like Fornax, Virgo, Perseus and Coma, which are
dynamically different to Antlia. This fact might indicate that the build up of
the CMR in cluster of galaxies is more related to galaxies internal processes
than to the influence of the environment. Interpreting the CMR as a
luminosity-metallicity relation of old stellar systems, the metallicities of
the Antlia galaxies define a global relation down to Mv ~ -13. We also find,
for early-type dwarfs, no clear relation between luminosity and effective
radius, indicating a nearly constant mean effective radius of ~ 1 kpc. This
value is also found in several samples of dwarf galaxies in Virgo and Coma.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication in MNRA
Advanced Camera for Surveys Observations of Young Star Clusters in the Interacting Galaxy UGC 10214
We present the first Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) observations of young
star clusters in the colliding/merging galaxy UGC 10214. The observations were
made as part of the Early Release Observation (ERO) program for the newly
installed ACS during service mission SM3B for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).
Many young star clusters can be identified in the tails of UGC 10214, with ages
ranging from ~3 Myr to 10 Myr. The extreme blue V-I (F606W-F814W) colors of the
star clusters found in the tail of UGC 10214 can only be explained if strong
emission lines are included with a young stellar population. This has been
confirmed by our Keck spectroscopy of some of these bright blue stellar knots.
The most luminous and largest of these blue knots has an absolute magnitude of
M_V = -14.45, with a half-light radius of 161 pc, and if it is a single star
cluster, would qualify as a super star cluster (SSC). Alternatively, it could
be a superposition of multiple scaled OB associations or clusters. With an
estimated age of ~ 4-5 Myr, its derived mass is < 1.3 x 10^6 solar masses. Thus
the young stellar knot is unbound and will not evolve into a normal globular
cluster. The bright blue clusters and associations are much younger than the
dynamical age of the tail, providing strong evidence that star formation occurs
in the tail long after it was ejected. UGC 10214 provides a nearby example of
processes that contributed to the formation of halos and intra-cluster media in
