Impact of trust on performance evaluations

A study was conducted to analyze the influence of trust that managers develop with their colleagues and superiors, on the outcome of their performance evaluations. A total of 105 subjects from 35 organizations participated in the study. Scales were developed to evaluate dimensions of performance. Results indicated that the development of a positive and optimistic behavior promotes a positive performance evaluation

WOS: 000288413100001The purpose of our study was to determine the contribution of Serefeddin Sabuncuoglu's achievement to bring gynecology to the modern knowledge level. The gynecological tools in the achievement of Serefeddin Sabuncuoglu, who is the late period representative of classical medical paradigm, are examined in connection with the achievement of Zahravi, which belongs to the classical medical literature. It was determined that in the long time interval from Zahravi to Sabuncuoglu a limited advancement occurred in medical knowledge, and that the differences between the achievements of the 2 doctors are important for reflecting the development between the 2 periods

Kırım Savaşı'nda İskorbüt İlleti

Diyette C vitamini kaynağı olan taze meyvelerin ve sebzelerin eksik tüketilmesinden kaynaklanan bir hastalık olan iskorbüt (günümüzde Türk tıp çevrelerinde benimsenen söyleniş biçimiyle skorbüt), geçmişte özellikle uzun süre açık denizde kalan gemicilerde yaygın olarak görülmüştür. Osmanlı etıbbası tarafından “iskorbüt illeti” olarak adlandırılan bu hastalık, Osmanlı donanması askerlerinde de zaman zaman ortaya çıkmıştır. İngiliz, Fransız ve İtalyan birliklerinin dâhil olduğu aşaması Kırım Savaşı olarak adlandırılan 1853–1856 Osmanlı-Rus savaşı sırasında da iskorbütün ciddi bir sorun olarak yaşanmış bulunması söz konusudur. Bu çalışmanın dayandığı kaynaklar, Genelkurmay Başkanlığı Askeri Tarih ve Stratejik Etüt Başkanlığı Arşivi’nde bulunan 11 adet belgedir. Arşivin en eski tarihli evrakından olan ve “Kırım Savaşı’nda Sağlık İşleri” başlıklı dosyanın tüm içeriğini oluşturan bu belgeler, cephe ve başkent arasında yapılmış yazışmalardır. Belgelerin yedisinde iskorbüt illeti doğrudan söz konusu edilmektedir. Hasta sevkiyatı hakkındaki diğer dört belgenin de bu hastalıkla dolaylı ilişkisi olduğunu düşünmek olanaklıdır. Belgelerin ana konusu yaşanan somut sorunlar olmakla birlikte, satır aralarında dönemin Osmanlı tıbbının iskorbüt illetini nasıl değerlendirdiği ve onunla nasıl mücadele ettiği de görülmektedir

A Novel Screening Biomarker in Gastric Cancer: Serum Dickkopf-1

Background/Aims: Despite all the knowledge about gastric cancer, there is no prognostic biomarker which could be useful for early detection. Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1), a secreted protein, is known as a negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway DKK-1 is reported to be over expressed in many malignant tissues. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the normal level of serum DKK-1 (sDKK-1) levels in healthy Turkish peoples and to investigate the clinical utility of sDKK-1 levels for gastric cancer screening. Methodology: Serum DKK-1 levels were measured in 69 healthy controls and in 60 gastric adenocarcinoma patients with ELISA and sDKK-1 levels were compared with clinicopathological features and outcomes in gastric cancer patients. Results: Serum concentrations of DKK-1 in gastric adeno cancer patients were significantly higher than control patients (p<0.001). The optimal cut-off for sDKK-1 levels order to discriminate control group from gastric cancer patients was 25U/mL with sensitivity equal to 100% and specificity equal to 100%. Conclusions: Serum DKK-1 levels may be a potentially useful novel serologic marker for gastric cancers
