The demographic features of Serbia are characterized by an intensive process of
population ageing. At the same time, nursing homes are organizationally, conceptually and
ecourbarchitecturally outdated, lacking in both accommodation capacity and the space
necessary for all the residential functions. Therefore, it is high time a national effort was
aimed at transformation of these facilities. The goal of this paper is to formulate different
guidelines for establishing and defining a concept in designing new elderly care facilities and
reconstructing the existing ones, as well as to introduce innovative forms of dwellings
striving to keep the elderly in their homes as long as possible. The guidelines are a result of
long-standing practice in developed countries around the world: the USA, Sweden, Denmark,
the Netherlands and Finland

Temperature and Al3+ influence on electrophoretic mobility of porcine pepsin
The influence of temperature and different concentrations of Al3+ on pepsin electrophoretic mobility was investigated. The increase of Al3+ concentrations causes the decrease the electrophoretic mobility of enzyme. Also the increase of temperature induced the same effect. The influence of both temperature and Al3+ ion concentrations is additive.Physical chemistry 2006 : 8th international conference on fundamental and applied aspects of physical chemistry; Belgrade (Serbia); 26-29 September 200
Modulation of Functional Characteristics of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells by Acellular Preparation of Porcine Hemoglobin
Exploring the potential usage of the acellular preparation of porcine hemoglobin (PHb) isolated from slaughterhouse blood as a cell culture media component, we have tested its effects on the functional characteristics of stromal cells of mesodermal origin. Human peripheral blood mesenchymal stromal cells (PB-MSCs) were used in this study as a primary cell model system, along with three mouse cell lines (ATDC5, MC3T3-E1, and 3T3-L1), which represent more uniform model systems. We investigated the effect of PHb at concentrations of 0.1, 1, and 10 ΞΌM on these cellsβ proliferation, cycle, and clonogenic and migratory potential, and found that PHbβs effect depended on both the cell type and its concentration. At the lowest concentration used (0.1 ΞΌM), PHb showed the least evident impact on the cell growth and migration; hence, we analyzed its effect on mesenchymal cell multilineage differentiation capacity at this concentration. Even under conditions that induce a specific type of MSC differentiation (cultivation in particular differentiation media), PHb modulated chondrogenic, osteogenic, and adipogenic differentiation, making it a potential candidate for a supplement of MSC culture. Through a model of porcine hemoglobin, these findings also contribute to improving the knowledge of extracellular hemoglobinβs influence on MSCs in vivo
Testing the toughness of polypropylene filled with glass powder
The purpose of this paper is to show polymer waste as a raw material or otherwise usable material derived from a partial separation of communal waste. This paper describes the possibilities of polypropylene re-use through recycling with addition of glass powder, from the point of view of toughness caused by impact load. Standard test specimens, made of basic material - polypropylene, with addition of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% of glass powder with granulation less than 0,5 mm, have been tested through six processing cycles. The measured values gave a possibility of forming patterns for changes of the observed material with different content of additives, through processing cycles, which can be helpful in further research and analysis
Non-essential activation of pepsin by Al3+ βin vitroβ
The in vitro effect of Al3+ ions on pepsin activity at pH 2, via kinetic parameters was evaluated. Kinetic study showed that Al3+ ions increase the maximal velocity (Vmax) rather than apparent affinity for substrate (KS) implying the non-competitive nature of activation which indicated that aluminium was a non-essential activator of partial non-competitive type.Physical chemistry 2008 : 9th international conference on fundamental and applied aspects of physical chemistry; Belgrade (Serbia); 24-28 September 200
Kinetics of heat denaturation of pepsin in a strong acid media
Heat aggregation of pepsin, in a strong acid media; involve the stage of nucleation, and the stage of growth of aggregates. The initial parts of the kinetic curves of aggregation were followed via monitoring the increase of absorbance (A) and were linearized as {dA/dt; t} and {A; t 2 } functions. The slope of these curves is proportional to the product rate constant of reversible denaturation and the rate constant of growth of aggregates. Addition of Al3+ ions display a lag period whose appearance is caused by intramolecular predenaturational changes in the pepsin molecule.Physical chemistry 2004 : 7th international conference on fundamental and applied aspects of physical chemistry; Belgrade (Serbia); 21-23 September 200
Milk yield and milk chemical composition are largely affected by the quality of dairy cattle diet. The chemical composition of milk is dependent upon a large number of factors, including breed, diet, care, housing system, stage of lactation, etc. Milk composition is primarily a breed-specific trait. This study was conducted over a period of 15 months, involving Serbian Spotted dairy cattle. The experimental animals were assigned to three groups, each receiving different levels of supplemental zeolite. The control group comprised cows that received no zeolite supplement. Experimental Groups I and II were fed compound feeds supplemented with 4% and 2% zeolite, respectively. Milk samples were analysed for the contents of milk fat, proteins, fat-free solids and lactose, and density. The results obtained suggest that zeolite supplementation affects milk chemical composition, depending on the zeolite level present in livestock feed.
