    Microsoft Excel 2007 Programme for effective Tertiary Institution result grading is an enhanced and interactive method of managing and processing key issues in Tertiary Institution, which are the problems of result grading. Grading of in course, exams and keeping track of grades in a grade book is one of the most laborious tasks a lecturer can undergo. Small errors can creep into your grade book when you add up scores, possibly resulting in your posting an incorrect student grade. Using Microsoft Excel 2007 to keep track of grades not only cuts down on the amount of work you have to do, but also cuts down or even eliminates mathematical errors.     A Review of Landscape Design as a Means of Controlling Gully Erosion

    Gully erosion is the most visible and devastating form of soil erosion known to be one of the leading causes of land degradation worldwide. Landscape design is one of the techniques used in combating this problem. The objective of this paper is to review the use of landscape design in controlling gully erosion. The method used is a review of academic articles, conference papers, internet materials, textbooks and publicly available materials on landscape design and gully erosion. The results of this study indicated that previous authors whose works were reviewed have a convergent view that the use of vegetative approach, an aspect to landscape design, must be practiced for effective control of gullies. On the other hand, however, previous authors have divergent views on the use of structural approach, another aspect to landscape design, for control of gully erosion. Recommendations of this study include: (1) planting of a combination of woody trees and grasses; (2) use of some locally accessible structures for example, sieve structures; and (3) practise of agroforestry

    Perspectives of Librarians on Quality Assurance Measures for Admission of Students in Distance Education Programme in Nigeria

    The quality assurance measures for admission of students into Distance Education (DE) programs in Nigeria were evaluated in this study. The study employed a descriptive survey design, with a total population of Librarians and learners in distance learning centers in Southeast in Nigeria, of which 206 librarians were used in the study. The librarians and learners were chosen using a multi-stage sampling technique. The data gathering instrument was a questionnaire. Three professionals independently validated the instrument. The questionnaire\u27s reliability index was 0.97. The data was analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and analysis of variance. The findings revealed that quality is highly assured for students admitted to DE programs (X = 2.87, SD = 0.49). In South East Nigeria, significant variations in the mean assessments of students and librarians on how quality is ensured in the admission of students to DE programs were discovered. It was suggested that prospective students be provided greater opportunities to enroll in distant education programs in order to minimize illiteracy among the population

    An online glaucoma educational course for patients to facilitate remote learning and patient empowerment

    In both face-to-face and teleophthalmology glaucoma clinics, there are significant time constraints and limited resources available to educate the patient and their carers regarding the glaucoma condition. Glaucoma patients are often not satisfied with the content and amount of information they receive and have demonstrated a substantial lack of knowledge regarding their condition. Innovative educational tools that facilitate accessible digital remote patient education can be a powerful adjunct to empower patients in becoming healthcare partners. We describe the development of a free, comprehensive, multimodal online glaucoma patient education course for adults with glaucoma, their family and friends and carers, with the aim of providing a readable resource to aid remote learning and understanding of the condition. The working group for the development of the course comprised of consultants, medical practitioners and education specialists and expert patients. Given the specialised nature of ophthalmology and glaucoma, certain aspects can be difficult to conceptualise, and, therefore, clear and adequate explanations of concepts are provided in the course using diagrams, flow charts, medical illustrations, images, videos, written text, analogies and quizzes. The course is available in a short and long version to suit different learning needs which take approximately 2 hours and 10 hours to complete respectively. The contents list allows course takers to find sections relevant to them and it can be taken anywhere, as long as there is Internet access.     A Review of Housing Problems

    Housing problems occur both in rich and poor communities across the globe. The objective of this research is to review housing problems which lead to unwholesome environmental conditions. The method used is a review of academic articles, textbooks, internet materials, news articles and publicly available materials on housing problems. Previous authors whose works were reviewed have a convergent view on housing problems including overcrowding and congestion, poor accessibility, substandard and inadequate housing, high cost of building materials, high interest rate and lack of interest by financial institutions to facilitate loans to investors and uncoordinated policies by government. The paper made the following recommendations: (1) government should build low-cost houses to cater for the large number of people who, due to their low-income earnings could not afford a decent apartment; (2) formulation of economic, social and environmental policies that facilitate housing that is both affordable and sustainable by government; (3) improvement of sanitation in poor neighborhoods with poor housing conditions through urban renewal programme

    Availability of and barriers to the utilization of harm reduction services in Enugu, south-eastern Nigeria: Service providers’ perspective

    The study aimed to determine the availability and barriers to the utilization of three Harm Reduction Strategies (HRS) in Nigeria from service providers’ perspective. This study was a descriptive survey using questions adapted from the harm reduction questionnaire. Eight institutions involved in the drug treatment services in Enugu, South-Eastern Nigeria participated. Only 25% of the agencies did not practice HRS in any form. The commonest internal and external barriers were lack of funding and community resistance, respectively. The heads of the agencies rated themselves and the community unfavorable to accepting HRS generally. However, with regards to specific HRS, they were more favorable to methadone replacement therapy, controlled drinking and condom sharing. The findings of this study enriched our understanding of the various impediments to the utilization of HRS in Enugu, Nigeria.     Achieving Excellence in the Operations of Entrepreneurship Development Centres in Nigeria Higher Institutions

    There have been several policy interventions in Nigeria that were aimed at stimulating enterprise development. In line with this effort, entrepreneurship syllabus was embedded in the higher institutions curriculum to stimulate entrepreneurship mind-set among Nigeria graduates. And Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) sprang up in various institutions with varying approaches to the challenges posted to them.  With almost a decade experience in entrepreneurship educational development in our higher institutions, a stock-taking of their activities and way to achieve the aims and objectives is urgently needed. It was discovered that these centres, which most institution have established have not reach their potential capacity. So, the paper takes a look the current mode of operation of the some of the centres and their impacts on their graduates. In conclusion, the paper recommend ways and manners the centres can meet the contemporary challenges and their roles in enterprise development, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship education.     Drivers of Bank Loyalty among Students in Nigeria: Positing the 12-Point Student Customer Bank Loyalty Index Model

    This paper identifies key determinants of bank loyalty among student customers of banks in Nigeria. Data were collected from a sample of 423 student bank customers from 4 tertiary institutions in southeast Nigeria. Factor analysis was used to reduce 39 variables on student customer loyalty into 12 underlying factors explaining loyalty behaviour among student bank customers, which are collectively labeled 12-Point Student Customers Bank Loyalty Index Model. We recommend that banks located around University campuses should employ the model as an invaluable strategic tool for marketing strategy design, student customers’ bank loyalty assessment, and competitors’ customer loyalty analysis
