The prevalence of osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency in postmenopausal women working under harmful labour conditions has been examined. Reduced bone mineral density was revealed in 85% of the persons under observation, the incidence of OP was 35%, sarcopenia (SP) - 35%. Vitamin D deficiency was found in 91.3% of the workers, at the same time severe VD deficiency was observed in 32.9%, VD deficiency - in 7.5%, and the optimal level of vitamin D was observed in 1.2% of cases. 79 PM women with OP aged 50 - 60 y. o. (mean age - (55.7 ± 0.9) years), working at harmful  conditions of the working environment with an average length of service 26.14 ± 0.91 years have been examined. Clinical group A (n = 30) received cholecalciferol at a dose of 2000 IU (4 drops) per day and alfacalcidol 1 μg (1 capsule) once a day for a year. This resulted in a positive effect on the level of 25(OH)D. The complex appointment of cholecalciferol and alfacalcidol reduced the level of PTH and confirmed the role of VD deficiency in the progress of secondary hyperparathyroidism. The data obtained revealed a slowing of the effect of VD on osteoclastogenesis. Decrease of bone resorption marker CTx in the women under examination confirmed the latter

    Dysbarism. High-altitude illness

    Get PDF
Dysbarism is the collective term used to describe the pathologic changes that occur when the human body is exposed to environmental pressure changes (alternobaric exposure). Those altered pressures are translated into unphysiologic behavior of gases in organs and tissues. Failure to adequately or timely adapt to those changes, can generate (depending on a number of exposure and individual factors) the different clinical syndromes of dysbarism. Alternobaric exposure is a concern in a number of occupational and recreational activities, such as diving, compressed air work (as in tunnel construction and caisson work), as well as in aviation, mountain climbing, and high-altitude flying

    Massive Electrodynamics and Magnetic Monopoles

    Get PDF
Including torsion in the geometric framework of the Weyl-Dirac theory we build up an action integral, and obtain from it a gauge covariant (in the Weyl sense) general relativistic massive electrodynamics. Photons having an arbitrary mass, electric, and magnetic currents (Dirac's monopole) coexist within this theory. Assuming that the space-time is torsionless, taking the photons mass zero, and turning to the Einstein gauge we obtain Maxwell's electrodynamics.Comment: LaTex File, 9 pages, no figure

    Search for exchange-antisymmetric two-photon states

Atomic two-photon J=0 \leftrightarrowJ'=1 transitions are forbidden for photons of the same energy. This selection rule is related to the fact that photons obey Bose-Einstein statistics. We have searched for small violations of this selection rule by studying transitions in atomic Ba. We set a limit on the probability vv that photons are in exchange-antisymmetric states: v<1.2107v<1.2\cdot10^{-7}.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, ReVTeX and .eps. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. Neutral Particles in Light of the Majorana-Ahluwalia Ideas

    Get PDF
The first part of this article (Sections I and II) presents oneself an overview of theory and phenomenology of truly neutral particles based on the papers of Majorana, Racah, Furry, McLennan and Case. The recent development of the construct, undertaken by Ahluwalia [{\it Mod. Phys. Lett. A}{\bf 9} (1994) 439; {\it Acta Phys. Polon. B}{\bf 25} (1994) 1267; Preprints LANL LA-UR-94-1252, LA-UR-94-3118], could be relevant for explanation of the present experimental situation in neutrino physics and astrophysics. In Section III the new fundamental wave equations for self/anti-self conjugate type-II spinors, proposed by Ahluwalia, are re-casted to covariant form. The connection with the Foldy-Nigam-Bargmann-Wightman- Wigner (FNBWW) type quantum field theory is found. The possible applications to the problem of neutrino oscillations are discussed.Comment: REVTEX file. 21pp. No figure

Statistics of Q-Oscillators, Quons and Relation to Fractional Satistics

    Get PDF
The statistics of qq-oscillators, quons and to some extent, of anyons are studied and the basic differences among these objects are pointed out. In particular, the statistical distributions for different bosonic and fermionic qq-oscillators are found for their corresponding Fock space representations in the case when the hamiltonian is identified with the number operator. In this case and for nonrelativistic particles, the single-particle temperature Green function is defined with qq-deformed periodicity conditions. The equations of state for nonrelativistic and ultrarelativistic bosonic qq-gases in an arbitrary space dimension are found near Bose statistics, as well as the one for an anyonic gas near Bose and Fermi statistics. The first corrections to the second virial coefficients are also evaluated. The phenomenon of Bose-Einstein condensation in the qq-deformed gases is also discussed.Comment: 21 pages, Latex, HU-TFT-93-2

The study involved 250 patients aged 19 to 89 years, with different severity of osteopenia and osteoporosis. The patients were divided into three groups: general clinical group A (n=81) — involved the use of physiotherapy combined with a standard regimen of drug therapy; main clinical group B (n=109) — DENS- and kinesitherapy in combination with a standard drug treatment; the control group (n=60) — a standard medical therapy. As a result, it was found that the recovery of the musculoskeletal system in patients of group A and B is faster than in the control group, but the fastest growth rates of bone mineral density was observed in group B patients. Basing on the data obtained in the study there were developed a set of exercises for patients with different levels of reduction in bone mineral density, as well as a set of preventive exercises
