A Case of Acute Eosinophilic Pneumonia Associated with Heated Rubber Fume Exposure
ABSTRACTBackgroundWe report a rare case of acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEP) associated with heated rubber fume exposure.MethodsA 31-year-old Ethiopian man, working at a rubber plant, was admitted to our hospital because of refractory dyspnea and fever. Computed tomography of the chest showed bilateral interstitial shadows and pleural effusion. We suspected AEP and performed fiberoptic bronchoscopy.ResultsThe eosinophil fraction was elevated at 59% in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). From the history of inhalation of heated rubber at the working place and hypereosinophilic counts in the BALF, he was given a diagnosis of AEP associated with heated rubber fume exposure. His symptoms and chest radiographic findings were drastically improved by corticosteroid therapy.ConclusionsHeated rubber fume can be a causative substance for AEP. In similar situations, physicians should consider AEP and order various examinations for confirmation
Performance of Multi-Pixel Photon Counters for the T2K near detectors
We have developed a Multi-Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC) for the neutrino
detectors of T2K experiment. About 64,000 MPPCs have been produced and tested
in about a year. In order to characterize a large number of MPPCs, we have
developed a system that simultaneously measures 64 MPPCs with various bias
voltage and temperature. The performance of MPPCs are found to satisfy the
requirement of T2K experiment. In this paper, we present the performance of
17,686 MPPCs measured at Kyoto University.Comment: 15 pages, 14 figure
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of Co-based boride superconductor LaCo1.73Fe0.27B2
We have performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of Co-based
boride superconductor LaCo1.73Fe0.27B2 (Tc = 4.1 K), which is isostructural to
the 122-type Fe-pnictide superconductor with the pnictogen atom being replaced
with boron. We found that the Fermi level is located at a dip in the density of
states (DOS) in contrast to Co-pnictide ferromagnets. This reduction in DOS
together with the strong Co 3d-B 2p covalent bonding removes the ferromagnetic
order and may cause the superconductivity. The energy bands near the Fermi
level show higher three dimensionality and a weaker electron-correlation effect
than those of Fe pnictides. The Fermi surface topology is considerably
different from that of Fe pnictides, suggesting the difference in the
superconducting mechanism between boride and pnictide superconductors.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Coupling of giant resonances to soft E1 and E2 modes in B-8
The dynamic coupling between giant resonance states and "soft", low-energy
excitation, modes in weakly-bound nuclei is investigated. A coupled-channels
calculation is reported for the reaction 8B + Pb --> p + 7Be + Pb at 83
MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the low-energy response is only marginally
modified by transitions to the isovector giant dipole and isoscalar giant
quadrupole resonances.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure
Possible nodal superconducting gap emerging at the Lifshitz transition in heavily hole-doped Ba0.1K0.9Fe2As2
We performed a high energy resolution ARPES investigation of over-doped
Ba0.1K0.9Fe2As2 with T_c= 9 K. The Fermi surface topology of this material is
similar to that of KFe2As2 and differs from that of slightly less doped
Ba0.3K0.7Fe2As2, implying that a Lifshitz transition occurred between x=0.7 and
x=0.9. Albeit for a vertical node found at the tip of the emerging
off-M-centered Fermi surface pocket lobes, the superconducting gap structure is
similar to that of Ba0.3K0.7Fe2As2, suggesting that the paring interaction is
not driven by the Fermi surface topology.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
