Evidence of Pre-Imaginal Overwintering of Diamondback Moth, \u3ci\u3ePlutella Xylostella\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) in Michigan
We investigated the possibility of overwintering of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L., in central Michigan. In the spring of 1993, counts of immature stages on brassicaceous weeds in a field previously planted to broccoli revealed a small but significant number of late instars that could not be attributed to oviposition of immigrant moths from the southern United States. We suggest that crop debris and snow cover played an important role in sheltering the larvae, which are known to tolerate sub·freezing temperatures. There was no indication of adult survival
The Relative Effects of Logistics, Coordination and Human Resource on Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief Mission Performance
Most studies on humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) missions suggest that the quality of logistics, coordination and human resource management will affect their performance. However, studies in developing countries are mainly conceptual and lack the necessary empirical evidence to support these contentions. The current paper thereby aimed to fill this knowledge gap by statistically examining the effects of the abovementioned factors on such missions. Focusing on the Malaysian army due to its extensive experience in HADR operations, the paper opted for a quantitative approach to allow for a more objective analysis of the issues. The results show that there are other potential determinants of mission success which deserve due attention in future studies. They also suggest that human resource is not easily measured as a construct, and that this limitation in methodology must be overcome to derive more accurate conclusions regarding its effect on HADR mission performance.
LS2W: Implementing the Locally Stationary 2D Wavelet Process Approach in R
Locally stationary process representations have recently been proposed and applied to both time series and image analysis applications. This article describes an implementation of the locally stationary two-dimensional wavelet process approach in R. This package permits construction of estimates of spatially localized spectra and localized autocovariance which can be used to characterize structure within images.
ANALISIS PENGARUH KUALITAS LAYANAN TERHADAP KEPUASAN PELANGGAN (Studi di PT.Pelindo III Cab. Tg. Emas Semarang)
This study aims to examine the effect of Tangible, Responsiveness and
Assurance to Customer Satisfaction of Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang. Hypothesis
proposed from this research is: (a) There are positive and significant influence from
Tangible to Customer Satisfaction, (b) There are positive and significant influence
from Responsiveness to Customer Satisfaction, and (c) There are positive and
significant influence from Assurance to Customer Satisfaction.
Sample of this research are from customer of Port of Tanjung Emas
Semarang as many as 100 persons. Data obtained through primary data by
distributing questionnaires to be filled and through secondary data obtained from
Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang. Data analysis using Regression model and the
result are: (€a) Tangibles have positive and significant impact to Customer
Satisfaction, (b) Responsiveness have positive and significant impact to Customer
Satisfaction, and (c) Assurance have positive and significant impact to Customer
Satisfaction
Determination of effective diffusion coefficient of immobilized Baker's yeast invertase in various concentration of PVA-alginate matrix
Baker's yeast invertase is immobilized in PVA-alginate matrix using an improved method. PVA beads were prepared by adding calcium alginate to improve its stability, mechanical and chemical properties. Boric acid was used as the cross-linking agent and additional chemicals consisting of 10% boric acid and sodium sulphate solution was used as a treatment solution to harden the PVA-alginate beads. The determination of the effective diffusion of PVA-alginate matrix the vital step in optimizing the preparation of immobilized and water-soluble biocatalyst. In this study the two-level full factorial design was used to investigate the effect of PVA and boric acid concentrations and diffusions coefficient. Diffusion coefficient (De) is one of the factors that significantly affect the mass transport within the immobilization matrix. De value varies for each concentration of PVA and boric acid. The result concluded that both factors significantly affect the De. A maximum De value of 5.0141 x 10(-5) cm2s-1 was obtained at boric acid and PVA concentraion of 7w/v and 10.5 w/v respectively
Detection of changes in the characteristics of oceanographic time-series using changepoint analysis.
Changepoint analysis is used to detect changes in variability within GOMOS hindcast time-series for significant wave heights of storm peak events across the Gulf of Mexico for the period 1900–2005. To detect a change in variance, the two-step procedure consists of (1) validating model assumptions per geographic location, followed by (2) application of a penalized likelihood changepoint algorithm. Results suggest that the most important changes in time-series variance occur in 1916 and 1933 at small clusters of boundary locations at which, in general, the variance reduces. No post-war changepoints are detected. The changepoint procedure can be readily applied to other environmental time-series
