    MEMS Accelerometers

    Get PDF
Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) devices are widely used for inertia, pressure, and ultrasound sensing applications. Research on integrated MEMS technology has undergone extensive development driven by the requirements of a compact footprint, low cost, and increased functionality. Accelerometers are among the most widely used sensors implemented in MEMS technology. MEMS accelerometers are showing a growing presence in almost all industries ranging from automotive to medical. A traditional MEMS accelerometer employs a proof mass suspended to springs, which displaces in response to an external acceleration. A single proof mass can be used for one- or multi-axis sensing. A variety of transduction mechanisms have been used to detect the displacement. They include capacitive, piezoelectric, thermal, tunneling, and optical mechanisms. Capacitive accelerometers are widely used due to their DC measurement interface, thermal stability, reliability, and low cost. However, they are sensitive to electromagnetic field interferences and have poor performance for high-end applications (e.g., precise attitude control for the satellite). Over the past three decades, steady progress has been made in the area of optical accelerometers for high-performance and high-sensitivity applications but several challenges are still to be tackled by researchers and engineers to fully realize opto-mechanical accelerometers, such as chip-scale integration, scaling, low bandwidth, etc

Improving the voltage quality of Abu Hummus network in Egypt

    Get PDF
In this paper the performance of the electrical network of Egypt is studied by considering a small part on the network (Abu Hummus city). The transmission network of Abu Hummus city was created for 66 kV, 11 kV, and 0.4 kV in the digital simulation and electrical network calculation (DIgSILENT power factory software) to study the voltage profiles. The load flow operational analysis was performed to obtain the voltage magnitudes at every bus bar. The voltage magnitudes in 11 kV and 0.4 kV networks were 10% to 15% less than the nominal value due to overloading off the transmission lines and the voltage magnitudes in 66 kV was within permissible limits. By using automatic tap-changing transformer or Static VAR System, the main idea of this paper is to obtain the voltage profiles at every bus bar to improve the voltage quality of the networks, so as to achieve better voltage profiles on the low voltage side without much effect on high voltage side under various operating conditions

This study aimed to  investigate the effectiveness of educational infographics in the academic achievement and the development of geological sense among tenth grade students in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve the goals of the study, a sample of 452 female students from grade ten were chosen. They were divided into two groups. The effectiveness of infographics was measured by building an achievement test consisting of 25 single-type multiple choice items, and short essay questions. Likewise, a measure of geological sense was prepared, which consisted of 36 items distributed in 6 main categories: (the aesthetic sense, the scientific sense, the educational sense, the psychological sense, the national sense, and the economic sense). The validity of the two tools was verified by presenting them to 20 arbitrators. Their consistency was calculated using the internal consistency by the Cronbach alpha method, where the value of the stability coefficient in the test was 0.785, and the stability of the geological sense scale was 0.869. The results of the study indicated that there is a statistically significant difference between the female students’ scores in both the achievement and the geological sense scale for the benefit of the experimental group. In light of the results, the study recommended activating the use of infographics in the teaching of  geographical issues and spreading a culture of its use

This study aims at reporting on the prevalence of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and its relation to some variables including gender, college, academic achievement and region among Sultan Qaboos university students. The Arabic adapted version of OCD Scale designed by Ibrahim and Al Fazari (2015) was administered to a sample of 820 students from all university colleges (2014-2015 academic year enrolments). The OCD validity was assessed using face validity, criterion-related validity, and factorial validity. The reliability of the OCD was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha and split-half method. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was .86 whereas the split- half method coefficient was .82. This study showed a higher level of obsessive compulsive disorder among university students (48. 53%). It was also found significant relationships between OCD and gender. A higher level of OCD was reported among female than male students. In addition, a significant relationship was found due to the college, academic achievement and region

Reliable Machine Learning Model for IIoT Botnet Detection

Due to the growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, network attacks like denial of service (DoS) and floods are rising for security and reliability issues. As a result of these attacks, IoT devices suffer from denial of service and network disruption. Researchers have implemented different techniques to identify attacks aimed at vulnerable Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In this study, we propose a novel features selection algorithm FGOA-kNN based on a hybrid filter and wrapper selection approaches to select the most relevant features. The novel approach integrated with clustering rank the features and then applies the Grasshopper algorithm (GOA) to minimize the top-ranked features. Moreover, a proposed algorithm, IHHO, selects and adapts the neural network’s hyper parameters to detect botnets efficiently. The proposed Harris Hawks algorithm is enhanced with three improvements to improve the global search process for optimal solutions. To tackle the problem of population diversity, a chaotic map function is utilized for initialization. The escape energy of hawks is updated with a new nonlinear formula to avoid the local minima and better balance between exploration and exploitation. Furthermore, the exploitation phase of HHO is enhanced using a new elite operator ROBL. The proposed model combines unsupervised, clustering, and supervised approaches to detect intrusion behaviors. The N-BaIoT dataset is utilized to validate the proposed model. Many recent techniques were used to assess and compare the proposed model’s performance. The result demonstrates that the proposed model is better than other variations at detecting multiclass botnet attacks
