Hysteresis in a magnetic bead and its applications

We study hysteresis in a micron-sized bead: a non-magnetic matrix embedded with super- paramagnetic nanoparticles. These hold tremendous promise in therapeutic applications as heat generating machines. The theoretical formulation uses a mean-field theory to account for dipolar interactions between the supermoments. The study enables manipulation of heat dissipation by a compatible selection of commercially available beads and the frequency f and amplitude ho of the applied oscillating field in the labortory. We also introduce the possibility of utilizing return point memory for gradual heating of a local region.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

    Balance with Unbounded Complexes

Given a double complex XX there are spectral sequences with the E2E_2 terms being either HI_I (HII(X))_{II}(X)) or HII(_{II}(HI(X))_I (X)). But if HI(X)=HII(X)=0H_I(X)=H_{II}(X)=0 both spectral sequences have all their terms 0. This can happen even though there is nonzero (co)homology of interest associated with XX. This is frequently the case when dealing with Tate (co)homology. So in this situation the spectral sequences may not give any information about the (co)homology of interest. In this article we give a different way of constructing homology groups of XX when HI(X)=_I(X)=HII(X)=0_{II}(X)=0. With this result we give a new and elementary proof of balance of Tate homology and cohomology

The purpose of this paper was to apply the econometric models with qualitative variables in order to analyze two non academic behaviors at the level of the Romanian higher education system: cheating on the exams by copying or by direct or intermediary intervention at the professor.Logit Model, survey, sample, fraud

Measurement of the half-life of 198Au in a non-metal: High-precision measurement shows no host-material dependence

    Get PDF
We have measured the half-life of the beta decay of 198Au to be 2.6948(9) d, with the nuclide sited in an insulating environment. Comparing this result with the half-life we measured previously with a metallic environment, we find the half-lives in both environments to be the same within 0.04%, thus contradicting a prediction that screening from a "plasma" of quasi-free electrons in a metal increases the half-life by as much as 7%

Searching Multi-Hierarchical XML Documents: the Case of Fragmentation

    Get PDF
To properly encode properties of textual documents using XML, multiple markup hierarchies must be used, often leading to conflicting markup in encodings. Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines [1] recognize this problem and suggest a number of ways to incorporate multiple hierarchies in a single well-formed XML document. In this paper, we present a framework for processing XPath queries over multi-hierarchical XML documents represented using fragmentation, one of the TEI-suggested techniques. We define the semantics of XPath over DOM trees of fragmented XML, extend the path expression language to cover overlap in markup, and describe FragXPath, our implementation of the proposed XPath semantics over fragmented markup
