Artikulu honetan zerbitzuaren historia eta gaur egungo funtzioak laburtu ditugu, eta bertan, Álvaro d’Ors-en lana azpimarratu nahi izan dugu batez ere. D’Ors lehenengo Liburu- zain Orokorra izan zen eta gaur egun dugun liburutegia diseinatu eta martxan jarri zuen. Liburutegi zerbitzuaren lan nagusia irakaskuntza eta ikerketa arloan gure lagun- tza eskaintzea da, eta horrekin batera, ingurune akademikoan ager daitezkeen beharrei erantzuna ematea. The origin of the Library Service of the University of Navarra is in 1952, coinciding with the start of the University. This article describes the history of the service and its main functions at present – and, in particular, the work of the first General Librarian, Álvaro d’Ors, who designed and launched a library model that is still in operation today. Teaching and research support are hallmarks of the day-to-day activities of Library Services staff, whose roles have evolved in response to changes in the academic environment

Citation journal impact factor as a measure of research quality

The aim of this paper is to determine if the scientific papers published in high impact journals are not only of sufficient "a priori" quality to be accepted by such journals, but acquire further impact because they are cited by journals with at least a similar impact. A normalized impact factor (NIF) is proposed as a measure to compare the visibility of research conducted by different university departments working in different disciplines. This analysis is supplemented by a study of the distribution by quartiles of the journals involved. In addition, the quality of the journals citing the papers in the sample selected for the study is evaluated to determine research prestige. The feasibility of using citation journal impact in the evaluation as an incentive for research quality is posed in this work. This paper will be of interest to those institutions interested in quality research evaluation as well as those involved in science policy

Investigating SSH Research and Publication Practices in Disciplinary and Institutional Contexts. A Survey-Based Comparative Approach in Two Universities

In this paper, we comparatively analyze, present and discuss the results from a survey on increasing the visibility of research achievements in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) that was carried out at the University of Vienna (Austria) and the University of Navarra (Spain) in 2016 and 2017. Covering four major topics—searching and finding literature, publishing, the visibility of research, and the assessment of research outputs—we ask the following questions: are there disciplinary differences to be identified, and how do they present themselves in the two institutional contexts? Discussing the results, we showcase how disciplinary and institutional traditions and contexts are important factors that influence research and publication practices in the SSH. Our results indicate that the practices of searching and finding literature as well as publication practices and behavior are shaped by disciplinary traditions and epistemic cultures. On the contrary, assessment and valuation of research outputs are influenced by institutional and national contexts in which SSH research is organized and carried out

In the last few years, the Library of the University of Navarra has taken on new librarian roles, mainly related to research support. Along with tasks such as on-demand training sessions and the promotion of open access to the Library’s repository, we have started several new lines of research support. These primarily focus on advising professors about accreditation processes and six-year research evaluations, and providing data review and item validation support for the institutional research management system. We analyze these new roles and tasks that have been undertaken, together with their impact on traditional tasks, their benefits, and new perspectives for the future
