Prediction of Thrombectomy Functional Outcomes using Multimodal Data

Recent randomised clinical trials have shown that patients with ischaemic stroke {due to occlusion of a large intracranial blood vessel} benefit from endovascular thrombectomy. However, predicting outcome of treatment in an individual patient remains a challenge. We propose a novel deep learning approach to directly exploit multimodal data (clinical metadata information, imaging data, and imaging biomarkers extracted from images) to estimate the success of endovascular treatment. We incorporate an attention mechanism in our architecture to model global feature inter-dependencies, both channel-wise and spatially. We perform comparative experiments using unimodal and multimodal data, to predict functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale score, mRS) and achieve 0.75 AUC for dichotomised mRS scores and 0.35 classification accuracy for individual mRS scores.Comment: Accepted at Medical Image Understanding and Analysis (MIUA) 202

Healthcare professionals' intentions to use wiki-based reminders to promote best practices in trauma care: a survey protocol

Abstract

Background

Healthcare professionals are increasingly using wikis as collaborative tools to create, synthesize, share, and disseminate knowledge in healthcare. Because wikis depend on collaborators to keep content up-to-date, healthcare professionals who use wikis must adopt behaviors that foster this collaboration. This protocol describes the methods we will use to develop and test the metrological qualities of a questionnaire that will assess healthcare professionals' intentions and the determinants of those intentions to use wiki-based reminders that promote best practices in trauma care.

Methods

Using the Theory of Planned Behavior, we will conduct semi-structured interviews of healthcare professionals to identify salient beliefs that may affect their future use of wikis. These beliefs will inform our questionnaire on intended behavior. A test-retest of the survey will verify the questionnaire's stability over time. We will interview 50 healthcare professionals (25 physicians and 25 allied health professionals) working in the emergency departments of three trauma centers in Quebec, Canada. We will analyze the content of the interviews and construct and pilot a questionnaire. We will then test the revised questionnaire with 30 healthcare professionals (15 physicians and 15 allied health professionals) and retest it two weeks later. We will assess the internal consistency of the questionnaire constructs using Cronbach's alpha coefficients and determine their stability with the intra-class correlation (ICC).

Discussion

To our knowledge, this study will be the first to develop and test a theory-based survey that measures healthcare professionals' intentions to use a wiki-based intervention. This study will identify professionals' salient beliefs qualitatively and will quantify the psychometric capacities of the questionnaire based on those beliefs.</p

Inhibition of cholesterol recycling impairs cellular PrPSc propagation

The infectious agent in prion diseases consists of an aberrantly folded isoform of the cellular prion protein (PrPc), termed PrPSc, which accumulates in brains of affected individuals. Studies on prion-infected cultured cells indicate that cellular cholesterol homeostasis influences PrPSc propagation. Here, we demonstrate that the cellular PrPSc content decreases upon accumulation of cholesterol in late endosomes, as induced by NPC-1 knock-down or treatment with U18666A. PrPc trafficking, lipid raft association, and membrane turnover are not significantly altered by such treatments. Cellular PrPSc formation is not impaired, suggesting that PrPSc degradation is increased by intracellular cholesterol accumulation. Interestingly, PrPSc propagation in U18666A-treated cells was partially restored by overexpression of rab 9, which causes redistribution of cholesterol and possibly of PrPSc to the trans-Golgi network. Surprisingly, rab 9 overexpression itself reduced cellular PrPSc content, indicating that PrPSc production is highly sensitive to alterations in dynamics of vesicle trafficking

Background: The 5 years since the publication of the first International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology: Rhinosinusitis (ICAR‐RS) has witnessed foundational progress in our understanding and treatment of rhinologic disease. These advances are reflected within the more than 40 new topics covered within the ICAR‐RS‐2021 as well as updates to the original 140 topics. This executive summary consolidates the evidence‐based findings of the document. Methods: ICAR‐RS presents over 180 topics in the forms of evidence‐based reviews with recommendations (EBRRs), evidence‐based reviews, and literature reviews. The highest grade structured recommendations of the EBRR sections are summarized in this executive summary. Results: ICAR‐RS‐2021 covers 22 topics regarding the medical management of RS, which are grade A/B and are presented in the executive summary. Additionally, 4 topics regarding the surgical management of RS are grade A/B and are presented in the executive summary. Finally, a comprehensive evidence‐based management algorithm is provided. Conclusion: This ICAR‐RS‐2021 executive summary provides a compilation of the evidence‐based recommendations for medical and surgical treatment of the most common forms of RS

Empirical Analysis of Stock Futures Arbitrage

Along with the development of the financial markets in China, stock index futures play an important role gradually in arbitrage, which contributes to the equilibrium pricing of stock index futures. This paper reviews Cost of Hold pricing model to determine arbitrage-free interval and gives an empirical analysis of the arbitrage of the CSI 300 stock index futures to reveal that there are widespread arbitrage opportunities in securities market of China. This paper begins with the simulation of the spot portfolio combination and then studies the Listed Open-Ended fund and ETF fund. Based on analysis of the 5-month data and no-arbitrage interval, we give a concrete arbitrage operation to put the arbitrage strategy in practice. At the end of the article, we give analysis of existing problems in stock index futures markets and put forward corresponding solutions so as to build a prosperous and stable financial market. ? 2013 Springer-Verlag.EI
