Response bias in job satisfaction surveys: English general practitioners
Job satisfaction may affect the propensity to respond to job satisfaction surveys, so that estimates of average satisfaction and the effects of determinants of satisfaction may be biased. We examine response bias using data from a postal job satisfaction survey of family doctors. We link all the sampled doctors to an administrative database and so have information on the characteristics of responders and non-responders. Allowing for selection increases the estimate of mean job satisfaction in 2005 and the estimated change in mean job satisfaction between 2004 and 2005. Estimates of the determinants of job satisfaction are generally insensitive to response bias.Job satisfaction. Response bias. Sample selection. Family practitioners.
Chick PTPσ regulates the targeting of retinal axons within the optic tectum
Chick PTP (cPTP), also known as CRYP, is a receptor-like protein tyrosine phosphatase found on axons and growth
cones. Putative ligands for cPTP are distributed within basement membranes and on glial end feet of the retina, optic nerve, and optic tectum, suggesting that cPTP signaling is occurring along the whole retinotectal pathway. We have shown previously that cPTP plays a role in supporting the retinal phase of axon outgrowth. Here we have now addressed the role of cPTP within retinal axons as they undergo growth and topographic targeting in the optic tectum. With the use of retroviruses, a secretable cPTP ectodomain was ectopically expressed in ovo in the developing chick optic tectum, with the aim of directly disrupting the function of endogenous cPTP. In ovo, the secreted ectodomains accumulated at tectal sites in
which cPTP ligands are also specifically found, suggesting
that they are binding to these endogenous ligands. Anterograde labeling of retinal axons entering these optic tecta revealed abnormal axonal phenotypes. These included the premature stalling and arborization of fibers, excessive pretectal arbor formation, and diffuse termination zones. Most of the defects were rostral of the predicted termination zone, indicating that cPTP function is necessary for sustaining the growth of retinal axons over the optic tectum and for directing axons to their correct sites of termination. This demonstrates that regulation
of cPTP signaling in retinal axons is required for their topographic mapping, the first evidence of this function for a receptor-like protein tyrosine phosphatase in the retinotectal projection
Comparison between the Use of LMA™ and SLIPA™ in Patients Undergoing Minor Surgeries.
Supraglottic airway devices have been used as safe alternatives to endotracheal intubation in appropriate types of surgery. This was a prospective, randomised, single blind study comparing the use of LMA™ and SLIPA™ in terms of ease of insertion, haemodynamic changes and occurrence of adverse effects (e.g. blood stains on the device upon removal and sore throat). A total of 62 ASA I or II patients, aged between 18 to 70 years were recruited for this study. Patients were randomised into two groups; LMA™ and SLIPA™ group. Following induction of anaesthesia, an appropriate sized LMA™ or SLIPA™ was inserted after ensuring adequate depth of anaesthesia. Anaesthesia was maintained with oxygen, nitrous oxide and sevoflurane. The ease of insertion was graded and haemodynamic changes were recorded at 2 minute intervals up to 10 minutes after insertion of the airway devices. The presence of blood stains upon airway device removal at the end of surgery and incidence of sore throat was also recorded. No difficult insertion was experienced in either of these devices. Insertion was either easy [LMA™ 87.1% versus SLIPA™ 80.6% (p = 0.49)] or moderate [LMA™ 12.9% versus SLIPA™ 19.4% (p = 0.16)]. Throughout the study period, the haemodynamic changes that occurred in both groups were not statistically different. Traces of blood were noted on the surface of the device in 9.7% of patients in the SLIPA™ group versus 6.5% of patients in the LMA™ group. The incidence of sore throat was recorded in 12.9% versus 19.4% of patients in the SLIPA™ and the LMA™ groups respectively. These findings were not statistically significant. In conclusion, this study showed no significant differences between the use of LMA™ and SLIPA™ in terms of ease of insertion, haemodynamic changes and adverse effects in patients undergoing minor surgical procedures
A Qualitative Analysis on Market Display and Design Phase: Measures of Customer Progression and Business Reimbursement
A supermarket, a large form of the traditional grocery store, is a self-service shop offering a wide variety of food and household products, organized into aisles. The basic appeal is the availability of a broad selection of goods under a single roof, at relatively low prices. Many of our Dhaka city customers are now seek for an easy-care lifestyle based on simple, functional and aesthetics and quality design products. This study endows with an existing, operationally and aesthetically deciphered interior of a supermarket and exposes by few of timely thoughts and to the directions and implications of the schemes in a precise manner. This study also puts forward to analyze of the market scrutiny with the human attendance, progression of the supermarkets and the furthermore strategic pricing in anticipation. Chronological Progression of Interior Design in Bangladesh with the Historical Faction and Scrutiny
The study of Interior design history of any country or society signifies the history of the settlement of the particular society, their level of culture, heritage, education and environment. All these several aspects indicate to the originality, individuality or in a word, ‘Design statement’ of a specific society or country. Design Statements serve to present intent, process, and the context of work. They vary from addressing a specific piece to looking at the overall approach to design. Design as art is the choices that the designers make in distinguishing themselves from others, and design statement is an expression of those choices. Modern human life actually evolves within one Interior to another. One may prefer open air, cool breeze or open field once or twice in a day but for resting purpose, executing household works, education or profession the ultimate destination is within the enclosure of four walls, a ceiling and a floor, an Interior space. So Interior plays a very significant role in life. There are several perspectives to look into Interior design; it may be professional or armature but the important aspect of it is impossible to escape.
