Franck-Condon Factors and Radiative Lifetime of the A^{2}\Pi_{1/2} - X^{2}\Sigma^{+} Transition of Ytterbium Monoflouride, YbF
The fluorescence spectrum resulting from laser excitation of the
A^{2}\Pi_{1/2} - X^{2}\Sigma^{+} (0,0) band of ytterbium monofluoride, YbF, has
been recorded and analyzed to determine the Franck-Condon factors. The measured
values are compared with those predicted from Rydberg-Klein-Rees (RKR)
potential energy curves. From the fluorescence decay curve the radiative
lifetime of the A^{2}\Pi_{1/2} state is measured to be 28\pm2 ns, and the
corresponding transition dipole moment is 4.39\pm0.16 D. The implications for

Semantic localisation via globally unique instance segmentation
In this work we propose a novel approach to semantic localisation. Our work is motivated by the need for environment perception techniques which not only perform self-localisation within a map but also simultaneously recognise surrounding objects. Such capabilities are crucial for computer vision applications which interact with the environment: autonomous driving, augmented reality or robotics. In order to achieve this goal we propose a solution which consists of three key steps. Firstly, a database of panoramic RGB images and corresponding globally unique, per-pixel object instance labels is built for the desired environment where we typically consider objects from static categories such as "building" or "tree". Secondly, a semantic segmentation network capable of predicting more than 3000 labels is trained on the collected data. Finally, for a given panoramic query image, the corresponding instance label image predicted by the network is used for semantic matching within the database. The matching is performed in two stages: (i) a fast retrieval of a small subset of database images (~100) with highly overlapping instance label histograms, followed by (ii) an explicit approximate 3 DoF (yaw, pitch, roll) alignment of the selected subset of images and the query image. We evaluate our approach in challenging indoor and outdoor navigation scenarios, achieving better or similar performance when compared to state-of-the-art image retrieval-based localisation approaches using key-point matching and image
level embedding. Our contribution includes: (i) a description of a novel semantic localisation approach using globally unique instance segmentation, (ii) corresponding quantitative and qualitative analysis and (iii) a novel CamVid-360 dataset containing 986 labelled instances of buildings, trees, road signs and poles
Integrable lattices and their sublattices II. From the B-quadrilateral lattice to the self-adjoint schemes on the triangular and the honeycomb lattices
An integrable self-adjoint 7-point scheme on the triangular lattice and an
integrable self-adjoint scheme on the honeycomb lattice are studied using the
sublattice approach. The star-triangle relation between these systems is
introduced, and the Darboux transformations for both linear problems from the
Moutard transformation of the B-(Moutard) quadrilateral lattice are obtained. A
geometric interpretation of the Laplace transformations of the self-adjoint
7-point scheme is given and the corresponding novel integrable discrete 3D

Prospects for the measurement of the electron electric dipole moment using YbF
We discuss an experiment underway at Imperial College London to measure the
permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron using a molecular beam
of YbF. We describe the measurement method, which uses a combination of laser
and radiofrequency resonance techniques to detect the spin precession of the
YbF molecule in a strong electric field. We pay particular attention to the
analysis scheme and explore some of the possible systematic effects which might
mimic the EDM signal. Finally, we describe technical improvements which should
increase the sensitivity by more than an order of magnitude over the current

Methylation landscape in the genome of higher plants of agronomical interest
In eukaryotic cells the methylation of cytosines in DNA is an essential mechanism which is implied in the dynamic organization of the genome structure, in relation to genes expression. Plant genomes contain a significant proportion and variable according to the species, of sequences which are likely to be methylated during the life of the plant. It is known that the establishment and the maintenance of methylation profiles in both genomic areas and specific sequences constitute a crucial mediator in the modulation of genes expression during development. Recent studies have evidenced the implication of epimutations in the adaptation of plants to their environment particularly in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. Recently, the complete mapping of methylation in the genomes of Arabidopsis thaliana and rice provided invaluable information on the distribution of methylation within genes in relation to their expression. The impact of changes in the methylation profiles on the characters of agronomic importance has not been intensively studied yet, whereas this question takes a considerable importance in the context of an increasing food demand and foreseen global climate changes. The METHYLANDSCAPE project proposes to isolate genomic DNA sequences on the basis of their degree of methylation and to connect the variation of their methylation profiles with, on the one hand, the expression of the corresponding genes and, on the other hand, with environmental or developmental processes. Thus, it should be possible to identify genes which expression is differentially controlled by methylation during development and/or in situation of stress, and likely to have an influence on the agronomic value of the plant. The METHYLANDSCAPE partners thus propose to bring signification advances in plant genomics on four original species, by integrating DNA methylation mapping and the relationship between epigenome and transcriptome, up to the generation of methylation-sensitive markers linked with characters of agronomic importance. Cavity QED in a molecular ion trap
We propose an approach for studying quantum information and performing high
resolution spectroscopy of rotational states of trapped molecular ions using an
on-chip superconducting microwave resonator. Molecular ions have several
advantages over neutral molecules. Ions can be loaded into deep (1 eV) RF traps
and are trapped independent of the electric dipole moment of their rotational
transition. Their charge protects them from motional dephasing and prevents
collisional loss, allowing 1 s coherence times when used as a quantum memory,
with detection of single molecules possible in <10 ms. An analysis of the
detection efficiency and coherence properties of the molecules is presented.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur
