The article features an unedited document dating from 1178, wich contains details of various exemptions, including the right not to pay for obligatory services and taxes, granted by King Alfons I to the residents of MontcerdĂ (PuigcerdĂ ). The sovereign placed the inhabitants of the new village under his protection and defence, granted them services and the use of common property, confirmed the continuance of the already existing market and allowed them an annual fair. It also regulated aspects of the administration of justice and reserved certain rights. The charter, the first in a series of three (1178, 1181, and 1182), is the only one to preserved in its original form. The article features an unedited document dating from 1178, wich contains details of various exemptions, including the right not to pay for obligatory services and taxes, granted by King Alfons I to the residents of MontcerdĂ (PuigcerdĂ ).
