    Running mass of the rho0 meson's implication for the dilepton mass spectrum and the mu+mu-/e+e- branching ratio in the K+ --> pi+l+l- decays

    Full text link
    We make an attempt to resolve the discrepancy of the observed e+e- mass spectrum in the K+ --> pi+e+e- decay with that predicted by meson dominance. To this end we investigate the properties of the rho0 propagator. We use dispersion relations to evaluate the running mass squared m_rho^2(t) of the rho0 resonance without adjustable parameters. To improve the convergence of the dispersion integral, the momentum dependence of strong vertices is taken from the flux-tube-breaking model of Kokoski and Isgur. The obtained behavior of m_rho^2(t) at small momentum squared t makes the K+ --> pi+e+e- form factor rise faster with increasing tt than in the original meson-dominance calculation and more in agreement with the published data. As a consequence, the meson-dominance prediction of the mu+mu-/e+e- branching ratio changes slightly, from 0.224 to 0.236. We do not see any possibility to accommodate into the meson-dominance approach an even steeper e+e- spectrum, indicated by the preliminary data of the E865 collaboration at BNL AGS.Comment: 13 pages, RevTeX, epsf.sty, 4 embedded figure

    About one long-range contribution to K+ -> pi+ l+ l- decays

    Full text link
    We investigate the mechanism of K+ -> pi+ l+ l- (l= e, mu) decays in which a virtual photon is emitted either from the incoming K+ or the outgoing pi+. We point out some inconsistencies with and between two previous calculations, discuss the possible experimental inputs, and estimate the branching fractions. This mechanism alone fails to explain the existing experimental data by more than one order-of-magnitude. But it may show itself by its interference with the leading long-range mechanism dominated by the a_1^+ and rho^0 mesons.Comment: 12 pages, RevTeX, epsf.sty, 2 embedded figure

    Estimate of B(K -> pi nu nubar) from Standard Model fits to lambda_t

    Full text link
    We estimate B(K -> pi nu nubar) in the context of the Standard Model by fitting for lambda_t = Vtd x V*ts of the `kaon unitarity triangle' relation. We fit data from epsilon_K, the CP-violating parameter describing K-mixing, and a_{psi K}, the CP-violating asymmetry in B -> J/psi K decays. Our estimate is independent of the CKM matrix element Vcb and of the ratio of Bs to Bd mixing frequencies. The measured value of B(K+ -> pi+ nu nubar) can be compared both to this estimate and to predictions made from the ratio of B mixing frequencies.Comment: 8 pages, including 6 figures. v3 includes an expanded discussion of correlations between SM inputs to the lambda_t fit, clarifies the discussion of the independence of this result from the ratio of B mixing frequencies, includes minor updates to the values of SM input parameters, and includes some new and some updated reference

    EWPD Constraints on Flavor Symmetric Vector Fields

    Get PDF
    Electroweak precision data constraints on flavor symmetric vector fields are determined. The flavor multiplets of spin one that we examine are the complete set of fields that couple to quark bi-linears at tree level while not initially breaking the quark global flavor symmetry group. Flavor safe vector masses proximate to, and in some cases below, the electroweak symmetry breaking scale are found to be allowed. Many of these fields provide a flavor safe mechanism to explain the t tbar forward backward anomaly, and can simultaneously significantly raise the allowed values of the Standard Model Higgs mass consistent with electroweak precision data.Comment: Matches version published in JHE

    Strong, weak and flavor scalar triplets for the CDF Wjj anomaly

    Full text link
    A model describing the 4.1\sigma\ Wjj anomaly observed by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron collider is introduced. It features new scalar particles which are charged both under the SU(3)_C and the SU(2)_L gauge groups and which couple to pairs of quarks. We introduce several identical replicas of the scalar multiplets in order to leave an unbroken U(3)_Q x U(3)_U x U(3)_D flavor symmetry to satisfy the constraints coming from flavor physics. We discuss the LHC reach on the new scalar resonances both in the resonant production channel (with the Wjj final state) and in the QCD pair production channel (with the 4j final state).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures and 4 table

    The Messenger Sector of SUSY Flavour Models and Radiative Breaking of Flavour Universality

    Get PDF
    The flavour messenger sectors and their impact on the soft SUSY breaking terms are investigated in SUSY flavour models. In the case when the flavour scale M is below the SUSY breaking mediation scale M_S, the universality of soft terms, even if assumed at M_S, is radiatively broken. We estimate this effect in a broad class of models. In the CKM basis that effect gives flavour off-diagonal soft masses comparable to the tree-level estimate based on the flavour symmetry.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures. v3: minor changes in the text, typos corrected, version accepted for publication in JHE
