Oral Health Screening for at-risk Adults

    Get PDF
Oral health screening and prevention is common during well-child checks. However, this screening in adults is not as consistent. In addition, oral health has been implicated in a variety of medical conditions, making it a very important factor in systemic disease. The goal of this project is to create an oral health screening tool which can be distributed to adults, especially adults who are at high risk due to diabetes, substance use disorder, pregnancy, etc. Those with positive screening should receive a handout with some resources and information.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/fmclerk/1648/thumbnail.jp

There are competing schools of thought about the question of whether spacetime is fundamentally either continuous or discrete. Here, we consider the possibility that spacetime could be simultaneously continuous and discrete, in the same mathematical way that information can be simultaneously continuous and discrete. The equivalence of continuous and discrete information, which is of key importance in information theory, is established by Shannon sampling theory: of any bandlimited signal it suffices to record discrete samples to be able to perfectly reconstruct it everywhere, if the samples are taken at a rate of at least twice the bandlimit. It is known that physical fields on generic curved spaces obey a sampling theorem if they possess an ultraviolet cutoff. Most recently, methods of spectral geometry have been employed to show that also the very shape of a curved space (i.e., of a Riemannian manifold) can be discretely sampled and then reconstructed up to the cutoff scale. Here, we develop these results further, and we here also consider the generalization to curved spacetimes, i.e., to Lorentzian manifolds

Sementes crioulas: o estado da arte no Rio Grande do Sul

This study investigated the state of the art of traditional, or landrace seeds in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. An ethnographic study was carried out by means of a non-statistical seed sampling in 13 farms from eight municipalities lying in the regions of the Greater Porto Alegre, Serra, Planalto Médio, Depressão Central and Serra do Sudeste. A broad diversity of ancient plants was observed. These species survive in the farms with the help of a seed bank. All in all, 39 plant species were characterized, distributed in 12 families, totaling 258 instances of landrace seeds grown in the farms visited. According to the farmers, the preference for landrace seeds is due chiefly to seed adaptability, better flavor and quality of the produce grown therefrom, valuablezation of customs and lower production costs. As regards seed upkeep, the most common difficulties mentioned were the lack of interest by the younger generations, and the obstacles in swapping and obtaining seeds. Alternatives to the upkeep of traditional seeds developed in different zones were also discussed as choices to plant conservation.landrace seeds, agrobiodiversity, family agriculture, sustainability, Agribusiness, Q20,

Analysis of Stationary- and Synchronous-Reference Frames for Three-Phase Three-Wire Grid-Connected Converter AC Current Regulators

The current state of the art shows that unbalance and distortion on the voltage waveforms at the terminals of a grid-connected inverter disturb its output currents. This paper compares AC linear current regulators for three-phase three-wire voltage source converters with three different reference frames, namely: (1) natural (abc), (2) orthogonal stationary (αβ), and (3) orthogonal synchronous (dq). The quantitative comparison analysis is based on mathematical models of grid disturbances using the impedance-based analysis, the computational effort assessment, as well as the steady-state and transient performance evaluation based on experimental results. The control scheme devised in the dq-frame has the highest computational effort and inferior performance under negative-sequence voltage disturbances, whereas it shows superior performance under positive-sequence voltages among the reference frames evaluated. In contrast, the stationary natural frame abc has the lowest computational effort due to its straightforward implementation, with similar results in terms of steady-state and transient behavior. The αβ-frame is an intermediate solution in terms of computational cost. This study was financed in part by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior—Brasil (CAPES)—Finance Code 001.© 2021 by the authors. Random graph states, maximal flow and Fuss-Catalan distributions

For any graph consisting of kk vertices and mm edges we construct an ensemble of random pure quantum states which describe a system composed of 2m2m subsystems. Each edge of the graph represents a bi-partite, maximally entangled state. Each vertex represents a random unitary matrix generated according to the Haar measure, which describes the coupling between subsystems. Dividing all subsystems into two parts, one may study entanglement with respect to this partition. A general technique to derive an expression for the average entanglement entropy of random pure states associated to a given graph is presented. Our technique relies on Weingarten calculus and flow problems. We analyze statistical properties of spectra of such random density matrices and show for which cases they are described by the free Poissonian (Marchenko-Pastur) distribution. We derive a discrete family of generalized, Fuss-Catalan distributions and explicitly construct graphs which lead to ensembles of random states characterized by these novel distributions of eigenvalues.Comment: 37 pages, 24 figure
