Lignin derivative (the commercial product - Protobind 1000) offered by the Granit Recherche Developement S.A. company, Lausanne-Schwitzerland was synthesized from annual plants. The present study’s aim was to modify commercial lignins by the reaction of hydroxymethylation (produced in alkaline medium) and epoxydation (reaction with epichlorohydrin was performed in basic catalysis, aiming at increase the functionality) and to characterize the lignin derivatives chemical, spectral (1H NMR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Studies have revealed some functional changes related to the difference in reactivity and reaction conditions

Integrated transnational macroseismic data set for the strongest earthquakes of Vrancea (Romania).

A unique macroseismic data set for the strongest earthquakes occurring since 1940 in the Vrancea region is constructed by a thorough review of all available sources. Inconsistencies and errors in the reported data and in their use are also analysed. The final data set, which is free from inconsistencies, including those at the political borders, contains 9822 observations for the strong intermediate-depth earthquakes: 1940, Mw=7.7; 1977, Mw=7.4; 1986, Mw=7.1; 1990, May 30, Mw=6.9; 1990, May 31, Mw=6.4; and 2004, Mw = 6.0. This data set is available electronically as Supplementary data to the present paper. From the discrete macroseismic data, the continuous macroseismic field is generated using the methodology developed by Molchan et al. (2002). The procedure, along with the unconventional (smoothing method) modi\u2423ed polynomial \u2423ltering (MPF), uses the diffuse boundary (DB) method, which visualises the uncertainty in the isoseismal boundaries. The comparison of DBs with previous isoseismal maps supplies a good evaluation criterion of the reliability of earlier published maps. The produced isoseismals can be used not only for the formal comparison of the observed and theoretical isoseismals, but also for the retrieval of source properties and the assessment of local responses (Molchan et al., 2011)

Time Integration in Semantic Trajectories Using an Ontological Modelling Approach

page number: 187-198International audienceNowadays, with a growing use of location-aware, wirelessly connected, mobile devices, we can easily capture trajectories of mobile objects. To exploit these raw trajectories, we need to enhance them with semantic information. Several research fields are currently focusing on semantic trajectories to support queries and inferences to help users for validating and discovering more knowledge about mobile objects. The inference mechanism is needed for queries on semantic trajectories connected to other sources of information. Time and space knowledge are fundamental sources of information used by the inference operation on semantic trajectories. This article presents a case study of inference mechanism on semantic trajectories. We propose a solution based on an ontological approach for modelling semantic trajectories integrating time information and rules. We give experiments and evaluations of the proposed approach on generated and real data

Prospective Data Model and Distributed Query Processing for Mobile Sensing Data Streams

International audienceWith the rapid advancements of sensor technologies and mobile computing, Mobile Crowd-Sensing (MCS) has emerged as a new paradigm to collect massive-scale rich trajectory data. Nomadic sensors empower people and objects with the capability of reporting and sharing observations on their state, their behavior and/or their surrounding environments. Processing and analyzing this continuously growing data raise several challenges due not only to their volume, their velocity, and their complexity but also to the gap between raw data samples and the desired application view in terms of correlation between observations and in terms of granularity. In this paper, we put forward a proposal that offers an abstract view of any spatio-temporal data series as well as their manipulation. Our approach allows to support this high-level logical view and provides efficient processing by mapping both the representation and the manipulation to an internal physical model. We explore an implementation within a distributed framework and envision the adaptation of data organization methods combining aggressive indexing and partitioning over time and space. The mapping from the logical view and the actual data storage will lead to revisiting the traditional database query rewriting and optimization techniques. This proposal is a first step in the objective of coping with the complexity, the imperfection of large data sizes in the MCS context
