    A Review of TV White Space Technology and its Deployments in Africa

    The emergence of bandwidth-driven applications in the current wireless communication environment is driving a paradigm shift from the conventional fixed spectrum assignment policy to intelligent and dynamic spectrum access. Practical demands for efficient spectrum utilization have continued to drive the development of TV white space technology to provide affordable and reliable wireless connectivity. It is envisaged that transition from analogue transmission to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) creates more spectrum opportunity for TV white space access and regulatory agencies of many countries had begun to explore this opportunity to address spectrum scarcity. To convey the evolutionary trends in the development of TV white space technology, this paper presents a comprehensive review on the contemporary approaches to TV white space technology and practical deployments of pilot projects in Africa. The paper outlines the activities in TV white space technology, which include regulations and standardization, commercial trials, research challenges, open issues and future research directions. Furthermore, it also provides an overview of the current industrial trends in TV white space technology which demonstrates that cognitive radio as an enabling technology for TV white space technology

    House Price Prediction using Machine Learning Algorithms

    House prices are a major financial decision for everyone involved in the housing market, including potential home buyers. A major part of the real estate industry is housing. An accurate housing price prediction is a valuable tool for buyer and seller as well as real estate agents. The study is done for the purpose of knowledge among the people to understand and estimate the pricing of their houses. The prediction will be made using four machine learning algorithms such as linear regression, polynomial regression, random forest, decision tree. Linear Regression has good interpretability. Decision tree is a graphical representation of all possible solutions. Polynomial regression can be easily fitted to a wide variety of curves. Regression and classification issues are resolved with random forests .Among the given algorithm, Random forest provides better accuracy of about 89% for given dataset

    Workplace well-being in the London-Chinese business community

    Purpose Workplace well-being is key to improving health and therefore productivity. Although the Chinese population and their influence on business in the UK are growing rapidly, little is known about the attitudes of Chinese employers and employees towards workplace well-being. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted a qualitative study to explore the views of Chinese employees and employers in London and interviewed occupational health and workplace well-being experts. Findings Employers’ understanding of workplace well-being was limited, their approach was reactive rather than proactive. Contextual factors hampered most efforts towards workplace well-being. Employees reported that working conditions were generally poor with likely implications for employees’ physical and mental health. Generational and migratory changes further complicate the scenario but potentially usher in positive change. Research limitations/implications This study was conducted in a London area with a high density of Chinese businesses. The study nevertheless covered only a limited selection of business sectors. Caution may therefore be necessary in assuming the transferability of these findings to other parts of the UK. Practical implications Chinese businesses are agreeable to being informed about and considering the business case for workplace well-being. Chinese workers need better working conditions, easier access to health services preferably delivered through Chinese-based networks of community and business associations which are trusted by both employers and employees. Originality/value This study offers novel evidence on the attitude of Chinese employers and employees towards workplace well-being by comparing views from both groups. Chinese people face considerable health and mental health problems through their work environment, in contrast with conclusions from the Health Survey for England and Labour Force Survey

    Topicality. Continuing to study the promising species of Ulmus, which are common in Ukraine, we studied the bark of Ulmus carpinifolia elemental composition in comparison with the soil.Aim. To study the bark of Ulmus carpinifolia elemental composition, family Ulmaceae in comparison with the soil.Materials and methods. The raw materials harvested at the exhibitions in the Botanical Garden of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Elemental composition determined by the method of atomic emission spectrography with photographic recording of results on the device DFS-8 in comparison with standard mixtures of mineral compounds.Results and discussion. The analysis showed the presence of 17 macro- and microelements identified and determined in raw material, among them there are 4 macro- and 13 trace elements. For the bark, the following pattern of accumulation of macroelements were observed: K > Si > Ca > Na > P, trace elements Fe > Al > Mn > Zn > Cu > Mo > Pb > Ni > Co > Cd > As > Hg. In soil, macroelements accumulated in the following order: K > Si > Ca > Na > P and trace elements in the following: Fe > Al > Mn > Zn > Cu.Conclusions. The results of study the elemental composition of Ulmus carpinifolia bark and soil under this plant were showed. The presence of 17 macro- and microelements was determined , the high content of potassium, calcium and silicon in feed and in soil was proved.Актуальность. Продолжая изучение перспективных видов рода Ильм, которые распространены в Украине, нами было проведено изучение элементного состава коры ильма граболистного в сравнении с грунтом.Цель работы. Изучение элементного состава коры ильма граболистного семейства Ulmaceae в сравнении с грунтом.Материалы и методы. Сырье заготавливали на экспозициях Ботанического сада Харьковского национального университета имени В. Н. Каразина. Элементный состав определяли методом атомно-эмиссионной спектрографии с фотографической регистрацией результатов на приборе ДФС-8 в сравнении со стандартными образцами минеральных веществ.Результаты и их обсуждение. Анализ данных показал, что в сырье идентифицированы 17 макро- и микроэлементов, из которых 4 макро- и 13 микроэлементов. Для коры наблюдалась следующая закономерность накопления макроэлементов: K > Si > Ca > Na > P, микроэлементов Fe > Al > Mn > Zn > Cu > Mo > Pb > Ni > Co > Cd > As > Hg. В грунте макроэлементы накапливались в следующем порядке: K > Si > Ca > Na > P и микроэлементы в следующем: Fe > Al > Mn > Zn > Cu.Выводы. Впервые проведен анализ элементного состава коры ильма граболистного в сравнении с грунтом. Идентифицировано 17 макро- и микроэлементов. В количественном соотношении преобладали калий, кремний и кальций. Результаты исследования будут использованы при стандартизации лекарственного растительного сырья и разработке методов количественного определения.Актуальність. Продовжуючи вивчення перспективних видів роду Ільм, які поширені в Україні, нами було проведене вивчення елементного складу кори ільму граболистого у порівнянні з ґрунтом.Мета роботи. Вивчення елементного складу кори Ільму граболистого родини Ulmaceae у порівнянні з ґрунтом.Матеріали та методи. Сировину заготовляли на експозиціях Ботанічного саду Харківського національного університету імені В. Н. Каразіна. Елементний склад визначали методом атомно-емісійної спектрографії з фотографічною реєстрацією результатів на приладі ДФС-8 у порівнянні зі стандартними сумішами мінеральних сполук. Результати та їх обговорення. Аналіз даних показав, що в сировині ідентифіковано та визначено вміст 17 макро- та мікроелементів, з яких 4 макро- та 13 мікроелементи. Для кори спостерігалася наступна закономірність накопичення макроелементів: K > Si > Ca > Na > P, мікроелементів Fe > Al > Mn > Zn >Cu > Mo > Pb > Ni > Co > Cd > As >Hg. У ґрунті макроелементи накопичувались у наступному порядку: K > Si > Ca > Na > P та мікроелементи у такому: Fe > Al > Mn > Zn >Cu.Висновки. Вперше проведений аналіз елементного складу кори ільму граболистого у порівнянні з ґрунтом. Визначено наявність 17 макро- та мікроелементів. У кількісному співвідношенні переважали калій, кремній та кальцій. Результати дослідження будуть використані при стандартизації лікарської рослинної сировини і розробці методів кількісного визначення.

    Tujuan utama dari penelitian dan penciptaan seni ini adalah mencipta dan menyajikan karya “Dinamika Bentuk Dan Warna Segehan Panca Warna Sebagai Lukis Kontemporer” sebagai representasi pendidikan seni dan budaya. Model penciptaan seni lukis menjadi ekspresi budaya yang mampu memainkan peran kritis sebagai media peningkatan apresiasi masyarakat. Penciptaan ini berbasis riset dengan demikian metodenya terdiri dari dua bagian yang tidak terpisah yakni metode penelitian dan metode penciptaan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pengamatan. Dengan pengamatan akan mendapat gambaran nyata mengenai segehan. Sedangkan metode penciptaan melewati tiga tahap yakni: eksplorasi/penjajagan, percobaan/penuangan, pembentukan/penyusunan yang didahului dengan telaah karya seni sejenis dan kajian literatur. Ruang lingkup penelitian dan penciptaan karya seni ini berangkat dari upacara yadnya agama Hindu yang ada di Bali begitu banyak dengan berbagai bentuk upakara maka ruang lingkup dari upakara yang berbentuk segehan dibatasi pada segehan panca warna yang menurut penulis segehan panca warna ini menghadirkan warna-warna yang kontras. Adapun bentuk karya yang dihasilkan merupakan karya abstraksi dari segehan panca warna. Hasil cipta karya seni ini untuk memenuhi keindahan yang diambil dari bentuk, warna serta nilai filosofis yang terkandung dalam segehan panca warna. Kata Kunci: Segehan Panca Warna Dalam Harmoni

    Perancangan Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD) Sekaligus Sebagai Liferaft Untuk Mendukung Kapal Ikan Berkelanjutan Di Indonesia

    Ketersediaan peralatan keselamatan standard di atas kapal ikan di Indonesia masih menjadi permasalahan yang perlu segera diatasi. Tingginya resiko dan tingkat kecelakaan kerja di sektor ini dikhawatirkan mengurangi minat generasi muda menjadi nelayan, dan akhirnya membahayakan keberlanjutan sektor perikanan di masa yang akan datang. Salah satu peralatan keselamatan standard yang harus ada di atas kapal adalah Liferaft, yang berfungsi sebagai rakit penolong bagi awak kapal ketika kapal mengalami kecelakaan dan tenggelam. Salah satu alasan nelayan untuk tidak menyediakan liferaft diatas kapal adalah nelayan beranggapan bahwa beberapa peralatan yang selama ini telah ada di atas kapal dapat difungsikan sebagai peralatan keselamatan, seperti rakitsederhana yang difungsikan sebagai dudukan genset dan lampu untuk memikat ikat supaya muncul ke permukaan atau yang dikenal dengan istilah Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang sebuah alat apung untuk penempatan FAD dimana alat apung ini juga sekaligusdapat berfungsi sebagai liferaft yang memenuhi standard alat keselamatan pelayaran serta mempunyai biaya operasional yang murah. FAD di rancang menggunakan buoyancy dari polyurethane yang di lapis dengan FRP dan menggunakan lampu LED yang sumber energinya dari panel surya (solar cells).Liferaft dibuat dari polyurethane yang di lapis dengan FRP yang memenuhi standar Solas 74/96, LSA Code and IMO 81 (70) yang berbentuk persegi panjang dengan ukuran 1,2 x 0,9 meter dengan penampang persegi panjang ukuran 0,25 x 0,25 meter. Liferaft mempunyai daya apung (buoyancy) sebesar 138,32 kgsehingga bias fungsi sebagai buoyant apparatus yang mampu menahan beban sampai dengan 6 ABK kapal nelayan. Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD) terdiri dari rumah panel yang berisi battery dan solar charge controller berbentuk kotak yang mempunyai dimensi 0,6 x 0,3 x 0,7 meter serta menggunakanpanel surya (solar cells) 50 WP dengan ukuran 600 x 530 x 20 mampu untuk mengisi batterai (accu) 12v, 18 Ah yang bisa digunakan untuk lampu FAD dengan menggunakan lampu LED total 20 Watt dan bisa menyala 9 – 10 jam sesuai dengan lamanya nelayan mencari ikan.     Individuals with Lynch syndrome are predisposed to cancer due to an inherited DNA mismatch repair gene mutation. However, there is significant variability observed in disease expression likely due to the influence of other environmental, lifestyle, or genetic factors. Polymorphisms in genes encoding xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes may modify cancer risk by influencing the metabolism and clearance of potential carcinogens from the body. In this retrospective analysis, we examined key candidate gene polymorphisms in CYP1A1, EPHX1, GSTT1, GSTM1, and GSTP1 as modifiers of age at onset of colorectal cancer among 257 individuals with Lynch syndrome. We found that subjects heterozygous for CYP1A1 I462V (c.1384A\u3eG) developed colorectal cancer 4 years earlier than those with the homozygous wild-type genotype (median ages, 39 and 43 years, respectively; log-rank test P = 0.018). Furthermore, being heterozygous for the CYP1A1 polymorphisms, I462V and Msp1 (g.6235T\u3eC), was associated with an increased risk for developing colorectal cancer [adjusted hazard ratio for AG relative to AA, 1.78; 95% confidence interval, 1.16-2.74; P = 0.008; hazard ratio for TC relative to TT, 1.53; 95% confidence interval, 1.06-2.22; P = 0.02]. Because homozygous variants for both CYP1A1 polymorphisms were rare, risk estimates were imprecise. None of the other gene polymorphisms examined were associated with an earlier onset age for colorectal cancer. Our results suggest that the I462V and Msp1 polymorphisms in CYP1A1 may be an additional susceptibility factor for disease expression in Lynch syndrome because they modify the age of colorectal cancer onset by up to 4 years

    Zinc(ii) complex of (Z)-4-((4-Nitrophenyl)Amino)Pent-3-en-2-one, a potential antimicrobial agent: synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial screening, DFT calculation and docking study

    Herein, the synthesis and characterizations of (Z)-4-((4-nitrophenyl)amino)pent-3-en-2-one (HL) ligand and its Zn(II) complex are reported. The compounds were characterized using elemental and thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis, electrochemical studies, FTIR, UV-Vis, 1H and 13C{H}NMR, HRMS, and PXRD techniques. Antimicrobial activity was screened on some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. DFT predictions were achieved using B3LYP, ωB97XD and M06-2X functional with 6-31+G(d,p) and LANL2DZ basis sets for nonmetallic and metallic atoms, respectively. The therapeutic potentials of the compounds were evaluated based on protein binding affinity, ADME/T and drug-likeness properties. The experimental results revealed the formation of a complex in which two ligands coordinated to the zinc ion in a tetrahedral arrangement through their carbonyl and amino groups. The antimicrobial study showed that the complex possesses higher antimicrobial activity than free ligand and the control (Streptomycin). B3LYP emerged as the best performing functional having yielded the best IR spectra and geometrical parameters relative to the experimental data. The density functional theory (DFT) predictions revealed that the complex is more active than the ligand, and its formation is thermodynamically feasible and exothermic. The docking results revealed that the binding affinities of the compounds are in agreement with the in-vitro data, and they possess drug-like properties
