Stereoselective cycloaddition of 1-glucosyl-1,3-butadienes with tert-butyl 2H-azirine-3-carboxylate, glyoxylates and imines
Glucosyl dienes 1 have been reacted with the achiral 2H-azirine 4 and with glyoxylates, forming fused structures of type 5 and disaccharide-like compounds 7 with good to excellent selectivity. Glucosyl dienes 1 participated as dienophiles in reactions with Schiff bases derived from anilines forming isoquinolines 10 and 11. The diastereoselectivity of this reaction is poor.

Asymptotic statistics of the n-sided planar Poisson-Voronoi cell. I. Exact results
We achieve a detailed understanding of the -sided planar Poisson-Voronoi
cell in the limit of large . Let be the probability for a cell to
have sides. We construct the asymptotic expansion of up to
terms that vanish as . We obtain the statistics of the lengths of
the perimeter segments and of the angles between adjoining segments: to leading
order as , and after appropriate scaling, these become independent
random variables whose laws we determine; and to next order in they have
nontrivial long range correlations whose expressions we provide. The -sided
cell tends towards a circle of radius (n/4\pi\lambda)^{\half}, where
is the cell density; hence Lewis' law for the average area of
the -sided cell behaves as with . For
the cell perimeter, expressed as a function of the polar
angle , satisfies , where is known Gaussian
noise; we deduce from it the probability law for the perimeter's long
wavelength deviations from circularity. Many other quantities related to the
asymptotic cell shape become accessible to calculation.Comment: 54 pages, 3 figure
Eating behaviours in youths: a comparison between female and male athletes and non-athletes
Article first published online: 25 JUL 2013Objective: This study compared the different factors associated with eating behaviours among young female and male athletes and non-athletes. Method: A total of 580 female and male athletes and 362 female and male non-athletes between 10 and 19 years old participated. We used the subscales of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) to evaluate the factors associated with unhealthy eating behaviours. Results: We found higher scores for females on the Diet subscale compared with males, regardless of athletic group (p < .05). Non-athlete youths scored higher on this subscale compared with male athletes (p < .05). Our findings indicate higher scores for female athletes with regard to the Bulimia and Preoccupation with Food subscale compared with other the groups (p < .05). Moreover, we observed that non-athlete males were more likely to engage in binge eating compared with athletes of the same sex (p < .05). Finally, females had higher scores on the Oral Self subscale than males, regardless of athletic group (p < .05). Conclusion: We concluded that the factors associated with eating behaviours differ with regard to sex and group
Size-dependent synergetic seeding effects in the inspection of airborne dry nanoaerosols by LIBS.
In the present paper, confined dry Cu nanoaerosols of controlled particle size are inspected under a time-resolved LIBS scheme to explore the effect of laser-particulate matter interaction upon the detection capability of airborne nanoparticulate material. Optically catapulted streams probed showed linear intensity vs mass correlation and similar signal stability which is linked to the seeding effect caused by smaller particles yielding hotter, albeit shorter plasmas. Seeding effect is demonstrated by hyperspectral time-resolved aerosol inspection, which exposes both, the interaction between multiple plasma nuclei and the discrete nature of the laser-particle interaction. Observed population/exhaustion cycles at the focal volume of the inspection laser explained the uncertainty values characteristic of LIBS inspection of aerosols. A thorough inspection of the emission in time evidenced a significantly different evolution of the intensity profile for commonly monitored Cu lines owed not only to the nature of the monitored transit and pulse energy, but also to particle size. These results suggest that the experimental settings for quantitative ultrafine aerosol inspection need to be tuned according to the target particle size and the particle density of the aerosol as seeding effects facilitates signal saturation, therefore this effect simultaneously contributes to and detracts from the analytical performance of LIBS on nanometric aerosols.Research funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad under Projects CTQ2017–82137P and CTQ2014–56058P. Cytomegalovirus erosive gastritis in a healthy infant: update about a case
affect the digestive tract. From the standpoint of the stomach,
has been widely described his association with Ménétrier syndrome
(foveolar hyperplasia with protein-losing) but can also
produce erosive gastritis. This article describes a case of erosive
gastritis in a healthy 4 months infant which debuted as
upper gastrointestinal bleeding. In addition we perform an update
of this subgroup of cytomegalovirus infection
High pressure ionic and molecular crystals of ammonia monohydrate within density functional theory
A combination of first-principles density functional theory calculations and
a search over structures predicts the stability of a proton-transfer
modification of ammonia monohydrate with space group P4/nmm. The phase diagram
is calculated with the PBE density functional, and the effects of a
semi-empirical dispersion correction, zero point motion, and finite temperature
are investigated. Comparison with MP2 and coupled cluster calculations shows
that the PBE functional over-stabilizes proton transfer phases because too much
electronic charge moves with the proton. This over-binding is partially
corrected by using the PBE0 hybrid exchange-correlation functional, which
increases the enthalpy of P4/nmm by about 0.6 eV per formula unit relative to
phase I of ammonia monohydrate (AMH-I) and shifts the transition to the proton
transfer phase from the PBE pressure of 2.8 GPa to about 10 GPa. This is
consistent with experiment as proton transfer phases have not been observed at
pressures up to ~9 GPa, while higher pressures have not yet been explored
experimentally.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure
